Aboard a wooden boat with a native, you will discover the lagoon and its environment little accessible without a boat. You can observe the Arsenal, symbol of the Serenissima. Heart of the Venetian shipbuilding industry.You will observe the island of Vignole. Formerly called Biniola, or even "of the seven vineyards", you will observe the Island of Lazzaretto Nuovo. In 1468 a decree of the Senate of the Serenissima established a Lazzaretto on the island with the task of preventing infections. The island became a place of "absentia" : here the "forty" was prepared for ships arriving from the various Mediterranean ports. Lagoon Tour, Not Canal Tour - Industrial Views, Not Scenic Venice
The boat was nice and the captain was pleasant, which is why this isn't a 1-star review. However, the experience misrepresented what was advertised.
The listing description states "enjoy gliding through the canals" and the provider photos show the boat traveling through the narrow Venetian canals. Canal travel was the primary reason we booked this tour, yet did not travel through a single canal - the entire experience took place in the lagoon.
When I raised this with the operator, he informed me his license prohibits him from entering the canals. So why does the listing say "gliding through the canals" and why do the provider photos show canal travel?
The listing also advertises a bottle of prosecco - we each received one glass. Local snacks were also mentioned in the description but never provided.
On the scenery: if you are hoping for the iconic Venice experience of historic buildings, bridges, narrow waterways, etc., this is not the tour for you. Venice is rich in history and the lagoon tells some of that story, but the views are largely industrial. We passed shipyards, factories, and cargo areas.

Sunset’s in Venice
WOW!!! This is our second time taking a sunset cruise with Jean Pierre and we will do it over and over again❤️🇮🇹. This truly is THE best tour you can do while in Venice. Venice Lagoon Sunset Tour
We loved this tour to see parts of Venice that we would not have been able to see from the city. The boat was great and very comfortable. Our guide was perfect - gave us a beautiful tour with the perfect amount of background on all of the areas we visited. A true insiders guide to Venice with beautiful lagoon sunset views. The captain who showed us the Venice that no one sees.
Absolutely top experience, different from all the typical Venice tours. Pierangelo shows you the local Venice — the lagoon, the corners that no one else takes you to — in an impeccable boat that is cared for down to the last detail. His knowledge of the history of every corner of Venice is incredible: every canal and every island has its story, and he tells them all. Communication was excellent from the first day; we even had to reschedule and he could not have been more kind and flexible. The bottle of prosecco at sunset was the perfect touch — we came for our 15th anniversary and this was one of the highlights of the whole trip. Highly recommended: if you only do one boat experience in Venice, let it be this one.

Must Do! Best Tour of Our Trip
Took this tour to celebrate after our elopement and it was absolutely perfect. I have been to Venice multiple times and was honestly a little worried it would be a repeat of what we'd seen from various water taxis, but I couldn't have been more wrong! Your local guide will truly show you a hidden side of Venice and the surrounding isles that most visitors have absolutely no idea about. Our favorite part was exploring around the less-populated islands and seeing the lagoon in its natural state, how it would have looked before Venice was built. Such a wonderful break from the bustle of the city. Truly a can't miss.

Highlight of our trip
We booked this tour to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Pier was incredibly kind and welcoming, and he took us around Venice while sharing interesting stories about the different places we passed. The views were absolutely breathtaking, especially during sunset. It was a relaxing and memorable experience, and my husband loved getting the chance to drive the boat. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique way to see Venice!
