Built in just three years, between 1588 and 1591. It remained the only way to cross the Grand Canal on foot until late 1854. The Rialto Bridge's 24-foot arch and the massive structure was built on around 12,000 wooden pilings that still support the bridge more than 400 years later.

Aptly called 'the drawing room of Europe' by Napolean, the St. Marks square is by far the most iconic place in Venice. While it opens out into the sea on one front, it is bordered by the St. Marks Basilica on the other.
