A Maltese classic and the undisputed king of street food: Pastizzi! These warm, flaky pastries are filled with either ricotta or curried peas. Found in every corner of Malta, pastizzi are delicious, satisfying, and surprisingly addictive.
Try the Imqarrun (at lunch) or the Ravjul (at dinner), different kinds of maltese pasta, made in restaurants that follow the traditional homemade recipes.
Bigilla with Galletti: This rich and garlicky broad bean dip is served with galletti, the iconic Maltese crackers. It’s a beloved local appetizer and a staple at social gatherings—and an essential part of any food tour. Enjoy your drink of choice between the Cisk beer and the Kinnie soft drink.
A sweet street food treat! Imqaret are deep-fried date-filled pastries with hints of citrus and spice. Crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside, they offer a warm taste of the island’s Arabic heritage in every bite.

Very beautiful experience and moment of sharing that we were able to have with Marinella. Even though it wasn't planned, we had it all to ourselves and it was a real pleasure to chat even if my English wasn't perfect. We were able to learn a little more about the history of Malta and try some of the typical dishes. It was a magnificent evening with the opportunity to see another side of Valletta.
Great dining experience! Our guide was a local archaeologist with loads of knowledge about Valletta and the surrounding area. The tour struck a great balance between the cultural significance and history of specific ingredients and then getting to try dishes that tied directly back to those stories. There was a bit of crossover with some of the storylines you may hear on other Valletta walking tours. We really enjoy history, so we didn’t mind at all. That said, if you’re someone who doesn’t love overly historical tours, this is still a great option—the history is kept fairly light and is focused primarily on the food and its cultural significance. The portions were also more than enough to count as a full meal, so definitely do not eat beforehand! Treat the tour as your lunch or dinner for the day. Overall, a great combination of food, culture, and history. Would highly recommend!
Absolutely incredible trip. Cannot recommend enough. The perfect blend of food and History! Marcella was brilliant 👏
A mix of food tour and history/cultural knowledge. Temperature was 35 and above during this tour which made it more difficult. Guide Dylan was very knowledgeable and very friendly and can’t fault him. Only downside’s were that although 4 food stops the 4th was so minimal that it hardly counted (small sample of black coffee and a bite of date pastry), and 1 food type on stop 1 and stop 3, so I felt there wasn’t a huge variety, and no drink on both those stops either. Previous food tours I’ve been on have had a wider variety of small bites of food, usually paired with a drink of some sort. I finished feeling like I’d seen very little foods in all.
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the mix of food, history, and cultural insights, and that Dylan’s knowledge and friendly approach made a positive impression. We’re sorry to hear that the high temperatures made the tour more challenging and that the food variety and final tasting did not fully meet your expectations. We understand that the number and range of tastings are an important part of a food tour, and we appreciate your comments regarding the limited portions, repeated food types, and lack of drinks at some stops. Your feedback is very valuable, and we’ll share it with our team as we continually work to improve the experience and ensure that the culinary side of the tour offers the variety and value our guests expect. Thank you again for your honest feedback and for choosing Do Eat Better Experience. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future.
Dylan was an amazing guide. He truly loved educating the group about the history of the city and stories about how food played a major role in Malta’s culture. Highly recommended. We are really grateful that we had an opportunity to meet Dylan and learn about Malta during our day trip from Sicily.
great food tour with Naomi who was very knowledgable and friendly Make sure you are hungry!
This is an excellent tour and well worth doing. Dylan the guide was excellent and had the trip planned with the right amount of organisation and flexibility. The food was delicious and there were many memorable stories from the day.
Great experience! Wonderful guide. Lots of good.
Great tour with Elena! A perfect mix of historical information and great food. Highly recommend!
This was, without a doubt, one of the best tours we’ve ever taken, and Stephen Grech made it an unforgettable experience. Stephen is an exceptional tour guide. The depth of his historical knowledge was simply astounding. From the very beginning, he gave us an outstanding introduction that explained Malta’s location, its fascinating history, and how its unique culture developed. He has an incredible gift for bringing history to life, making every stop interesting, engaging, and easy to understand. We had taken another historical tour the day before, but we learned more from Stephen in just a few hours than we did on the previous tour. His passion for Malta is contagious, and he shares information in a way that keeps you captivated from start to finish. He was patient, organized, personable, and happy to answer every question. What impressed us even more was what he did after the tour. He took the time to send everyone a thoughtfully curated list of his favorite places in Valletta, including recommendations for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, bars, and local spots to visit. That extra effort showed how much he genuinely cares about his guests having an amazing experience in Malta. If you have the opportunity to take this tour, do it—and if you can request Stephen Grech as your guide, absolutely do so. He is a true professional, an incredible storyteller, and someone who clearly loves sharing the history and beauty of Malta. He turned a great tour into an unforgettable one. We left with a much deeper appreciation for Malta and would recommend this experience to anyone visiting the island.
