Itinerary
Our fantastic tour start at Torres de Serranos, where we will meet to make an introduction of Valencian History, speaking about the old main gate of the medieval wall, the conexion with the Turia River and the diferents walls that Valencia had.
Did you realaized how many palaces have Valencia? We will discovered why so many around Barrio del Carmen...
Known as the "Valencian Sistine Chapel", San Nicolás is one of the most attractive temples in the city, with nearly 2,000 square meters of perfectly restored frescoes that leave visitors breathless. The spectacular paintings that decorate the vault represent the twice the surface area of the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel in Rome. With more than 700 years old, Saint Nicholas, which was already a place of worship in Roman times before being a mosque and a Christian church later, is a clear example of coexistence perfect between a temple with a Gothic structure and a splendid baroque decoration.
It is a surprising Gothic building that puts to Valencia city on the list of World Heritage Sites. It is not easy to see large civil buildings of Gothic architecture, which in our imagination we have more linked to the great cathedrals of central and southern Europe. For this reason, in 1996 the Lonja de la Seda was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This international body justifies the declaration because it is an exceptional example of civil Gothic, and represents the strength of trade in Mediterranean cities during the time of its construction. It was built in just 15 years during the 15th century. We will enter to discover why it was so important with silk.
Built on an old Roman temple that was later a mosque. In the Cathedral of Valencia we observe numerous elements from different periods, from the Romanesque to the Baroque. Construction began in the XIII century, having numerous reforms throughout the centuries we find this monumental building. Did you know that the Holy Chalice is in the Cathedral of Valencia? And that it also houses one of the most important pictorial works of the first Spanish Renaissance? History and art mix in the Cathedral. Its walls and doors also protect treasures as valuable as the Holy Chalice. Many studies think that the Grail of Valencia is the one that Jesus used at the Last Supper. Hence, Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI used this relic in the celebration of the Eucharist on their visits to Valencia. Another of the Cathedral's jewels are the Renaissance frescoes on the High Altar of the Valencia Cathedral, which were rediscovered ten years ago when the baroque vault that covered them was removed.
Basilica and Cathedral in the same square, what a view! what a history! We will finish the tour here but discovering the last important points of our culture.
On Mondays, the stop at San Nicolás is replaced by a visit to Valencia City Hall, whose monumental façade and centuries of institutional history bear witness to the city’s political and social life.

Paulino was a wonderful guide! Very knowledgeable. I learned so much. St Nicholas cathedral was amazing! The light show is a must see!
The guide did not have a microphone so we could only hear about 20% of what he was saying. I had read and heard some really interesting information about some of the sites we visited but that information was not mentioned during the tour. He was very knowledgeable about many things but somehow the delivery of the information was difficult at times and not engaging. Skipping the lines was nice.
Fantastic tour. Guide was experienced, knowledgeable and friendly. Took us to many very interesting places and explained the history of each.
The tour us to important and beautiful monuments of Valencia. We had an energetic guide who knows a lot about the city and its history and who is also humorous.
Great tour starting at the Serrano towers, and many stops at palaces, the silk exchange, saint nicholas cathedral, central market, and the Valencia cathedral. Not a huge fan of the “light show” at Saint Nicholas, but the rest of the tour was enlightening and a great way to learn about Valencia (p.s. the gargoyles are a must see!)
Plenty of walking but the beauty and quality of the sites is incredible. To see the holy grail and a thorn from the crown of Jesus as well makes this tour so much more. Uriel our guide was very knowledgeable and took great care of us while bringing incredible value with her knowledge and insights.
This was a wonderful tour!. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, the pace was not frantic, he made a point of having us walk in the shade most of the time, and there were several opportunities to sit down. I would happily do this tour again!
Monica was incredibly knowledgeable. She had so much information for us about so many details of the city in its various incarnations from roman to muslim to christian times. We enjoyed all the historical facts as well as the art history content of the basilica and valencia cathedral, the silk exchange, the central market, saint nicholas church and many other structures we passed along the way. It is a lot of walking, but she found us a bathroom at the halfway point and a few places where we could sit down for a bit if needed. We learned so much and Monica was very friendly and a pleasure to learn from. We highly recommend This tour if you want to learn sone history of the city and you enjoy walking around!
This was an outstanding tour through historic parts of Valencia! The Silk Trade building and it's story was very interesting. The Valencia Cathedral was beautiful. However the church of San Nicolas & San Pedro was highlight of the tour. Absolutely stunning artwork and the light show was amazing! A must see for anyone that visits Valencia. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the history of Valencia and our stops and also took the time to answer questions. I would recommend this tour to anyone for three reasons, the knowledge of the tour guides, the ability to skip the lines and communication before the tour started was very good.
Stayed at a little boutique hotel only 8 rooms used the tourist card for transport (brilliant value). It was VERY hot but at chilled pace enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and food. Spent a day at Cathedral and chilling after flight the second day toured the old town. So much culture and beautiful buildings and gardens. Visited the beach and science museum and Serrano Towers. Central food market is amazing. Lucky to have been there on World Cup night one to remember.
