Upper Mustang Classic Trek with Local guide

We did this trek with the guide Norbu, who was very competent both in terms of hiking and knowledge of Mustang culture. He is from the region, which is a big advantage for attending events like the Pujas. We are very happy with this trip and recommend it. The porter was also great (Sagar). He should become a guide! Everything is very well organized thanks to Dawa, who communicated with us beforehand to answer all our questions. We recommend this agency, which allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture.

Our trek in Upper Mustang was a great experience, walking and culturally wise. Before departure Dawa gave us all the information regarding the itinerary. Thanks to our local guide Norbu, we could know more about Mustangi people and Tibetan bouddhism. He perfectly knows the region and could help us understand better the living conditions up there. He also took very good care of us regarding altitude acclimatation and walking pace. We had opportunities to attend ceremonies at monasteries as well as horse riding races and meeting Rimpoche. The tea houses were we stayed where nicer than we thought. Our porter Sagar is also a great and strong guy. We definitely recommend this agency to those interested in trekking, bouddhism and culture. I travelled to Upper Mustang with HWW during the Easter holiday in April 2026, and it was a truly memorable experience. The entire trip was very well organised from start to finish. All logistics—including flights, transfers, and accommodation—were handled smoothly, which allowed me to fully enjoy the journey without any stress. I also requested slightly more luxurious accommodation where possible, and the team was very accommodating and happy to help arrange this. I really appreciated their flexibility and effort in tailoring the trip to my preferences. A special mention goes to our guide, Tashi, who is originally from the region. His local knowledge added a lot of depth to the trip, and he was always professional, attentive, and quick to respond to any ad-hoc requests. Having a guide who understands both the terrain and the culture really enhanced the overall experience. The highlight of the trip was Lo Manthang. The scenery was stunning, and it was fascinating to experience such well-preserved Tibetan culture. Visiting monasteries, caves, and local communities gave a very authentic insight into life in this unique part of Nepal. With the recent changes to the Upper Mustang permit fee (no longer requiring the previous minimum USD 500), I think this is a great time to visit, and HWW is a reliable operator to go with.

We had an absolutely incredible experience with Himalayan Wander Walkers—truly a once-in-a-lifetime journey. We did a customised jeep tour combined with lots of small and medium hikes, which was the perfect balance of comfort and adventure, allowing us to explore deeply without feeling rushed or exhausted. We traveled in December during the off-season, which turned out to be a huge bonus. The region was completely empty, creating a peaceful, almost magical atmosphere, and the weather was amazing—clear skies and stunning views everywhere we went. The nights are cold tho and I’d recommend a very warm sleeping bag! The communication with Dawa was outstanding from start to finish. He was incredibly informative, responsive, honest, and transparent, which made me feel completely at ease throughout the planning and the trip itself. Our guide, Nu, was exceptional. He was super knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely funny, and he made the experience feel very personal. Being from Upper Mustang, he knew the region intimately and had connections with many locals, who welcomed us so warmly and openly—it added a depth to the experience that you simply can’t get otherwise. The combination of culture, spirituality, and raw natural beauty was breathtaking. The landscape is unlike anywhere else in the world—wild, powerful, and deeply spiritual. This was a unique and unforgettable experience, and I cannot recommend Himalayan Wander Walkers highly enough!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Himalayan Wander Walkers. I had a very specific request related to my anthropological fieldwork in Mustang, something I doubt any other travel agency could have managed so seamlessly. Dawa and our guide Jampa were excellent from start to finish: from careful planning and securing permits to making sure every step of our journey went smoothly. I would recommend them not only for tourism, but also for documentary filmmaking and fieldwork. This was honestly the best experience I’ve ever had with a travel agency, and I look forward to traveling with them again, hopefully next year.

The trek to Upper Mustang have been a delight for me. The scenic view of the Himalayan, the rough trails, the destinations, serenity, all were a dream a come true for me.

Organizing our trek with Himalayan Wander Walkers was seamless. Dawa was very responsive and helpful and he answered all our questions quickly and clearly. We were guided by Babu, a former monk, whose friendliness and knowledge left a deep impression. He was extremely insightful, and taught us so much about the culture of Upper Mustang, it's history, and his spirituality. He really was core to our fantastic experience, and did everything possible for us. I really wish him the best in life, and we consider ourselves very lucky to have had him as our guide. On the ground, we were able to make some changes to the trek and extend it by a day. Everything felt possible. Upper Mustang itself is extraordinary. Both in landscapes, culture and way of life. During our stay in Lo Manthang, we were fortunate to witness a horse festival. There is serious road construction, but we managed to avoid most of it (August 2024). They didn't make any misleading claims. Still, I recommend visiting sooner rather than later as it seems everything is changing. This was one of the most meaningful treks I’ve done. I highly recommend it! It’s also one of the few treks in Nepal that can be done over summer during monsoon season.

Outstanding - high degree of personalisation & responsiveness. We chose them because they seemed to be the only ones honest and upfront about routes that have turned unworthy because of road construction. They were very through and thoughtful in how they planned our trek. Upper mustang has a lot of road construction- so go with these guys, because they know how to make it a beautiful trek and avoid places that are changing in character. Dawa was above and beyond in helpfulness and planning We also had an excellent guide Migmar and two great porters accompanying us.

Yonten, our guide, understood perfectly what we expected from this trip and did everything to make us live an authentic experience
