Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Mezcal

We had a wonderful time on the Ultimate Hierve el Agua and Mescal Tasting full day excursion. Beautiful mineralized rock formations, and loved having local guide Don Aurelio share about the area. Definitely bring your water shoes and swimsuit, the opportunity to swim at the waterfall after the second hike should not be missed, but requires a short walk up a stony riverbed. Good hiking shoes and sun protection are needed for the hikes, a hiking stick will be provided. We also loved the mezcal tasting with Don Jerónimo, a larger than life personality. We gained such an appreciation for the art of making mezcal, and thoroughly enjoyed trying the different flavors from the different agave varieties and distillations. This is a wonderful full day excursion, with more than ample breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Thanks very much to our guide Diego for an informative and fun day, we learned a lot about the Oaxaca area and Mexican culture, and to Jorge for safely driving us. We also greatly appreciated how Coyote Adventures supports locals and local businesses. We would definitely recommend Coyote Adventures and this excursion!!

This was such a memorable experience. First thing was my guide, Maurine. She was just awesome - knowledgeable, friendly, and had great relationships everywhere we went. I actually had two separate tours with her during the week and I felt like i got so lucky to have her for both. First, we went to Hierve el agua which was just stunning. Not many people there so it really was a special experience. One thing about Maurine is she will just leave you be for a bit so you can have a special experience and soak it in (she stays close by, just gives you some privacy) and i really appreciated that. Then, the Mezcal. We went to see this man named Geranimo who i will never forget. He taught me all about his process for making mezcal and the i got to taste different types that he makes and he explained to me the differences of each, while also quizzing me on them. What a fascinating individual who i will never forget. I met his whole family and it was special to spend a few hours with them. I cannot recommend this enough.

Our trip with Christian was great, it was a highlife of our visit to Oaxaca. The food was delicious, home cooked meals prepared from scratch. We were welcomed as family. The scenery was breathtaking and the waterfall was refreshing and beautiful. Mexcal tasting was educational and an experience to remember. Must do in Oaxaca.

My partner and I both agreed this was easily one of the best tours we’ve ever experienced. We started the day with Marlene and a local guide, exploring the petrified waterfalls up close — the views were absolutely breathtaking. Marlene then led us on a two-hour hike (thankfully downhill!), and throughout the journey she was incredibly attentive, professional, and deeply knowledgeable. She pointed out unique plants along the way and shared rich insights into Oaxacan culture, which made the experience feel so much more meaningful. I genuinely felt like I learned a lot. At the end of the hike, we were rewarded with a refreshing swim in a local cenote — it was truly magical. We finished the day with a beautiful home cooked lunch and mezcal tasting at a local farmer’s home, where we were welcomed so warmly it felt like spending time with family. I’m not usually someone who writes reviews, but this experience absolutely deserved it. I can’t thank Marlene enough for creating such a memorable and perfect day for us.

Five stars! Diego was a phenomenal host and the trip was a perfect blend of outdoor activity and exploring Oaxacan culture. We learned a lot and we had a blast. Can’t ask for more than that. Highly recommend.

Very cool trip... and excellent guides. Be sure to bring bathing suit and, ideally, beach shoes. The hike is great and the trip leader was vary knowledgable

Fantastic day out - the hike is challenging but worth the amazing scenery. The food and hospitality was great at both breakfast and lunch hosts. The mezcal tasting was generous and a lot of fun. Our guide was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour. It’s pricey but very worth it.

This was a 10/10 experience that I would highly recommend. Hierve el Agua is a beautiful place that you see with experienced and knowledgeable guides. The landscape and swimming in the pools were one of the best days of our 11 day visit to Mexico. The food for bf lunch and snacks were all delicious and welcome. The Mezcal tasting was also a great experience. Christian as guide and Jorge as driver were both excellent and made our day special. Don’t miss this exceptional tour!

Our trip to Hierve el Agua + Mezcal tasting with Marlen and Jorge was exceptional. Well-organized and beautifully carried out, this day trip made for a fun, beautiful, delicious, interesting, and all-around unforgettable experience. Tasting Mezcal with at Geronimo's and Nita's palenque and home was the perfect ending to the day. We sampled 15-20 different kinds of artisanal mezcal, ate a delicious homemade meal, and learned a ton about mezcal and its culture. Throughout, Marlen was an upbeat, informative, and solicitous guide and Coyote Aventuras, as an organization, made a very good impression on us. We'll be back to Oaxaca soon and will definitely sign up for another trip with them. Thumbs way up!!

Beautiful and interesting walk around the “petrified waterfalls” with local guide, refreshing swim in the infinity mineral pools, nice hike down into the valley and to a waterfalls, with swimming, then mezcal tasting at a small, independently owned mezcaleria (where we tasted at least 10 types of mezcal, learned and saw the process of making the mezcal had lunch with the master mezcalero, who taught us much about mezcal and life in the area). It was a beautiful day, Angel was a fabulous guide and the overall experience was worth the high price.
