Aquí anidan y viven diferentes especies de reptiles y aves, tales como el pájaro carpintero, martín pescador, pato buzo y una inmensa variedad de garzas, cocodrilos e iguanas, muchas de ellas en peligro de extinción. Además de ser grandes productores primarios de energía y oxígeno, los manglares contribuyen a la ecología global al evitar la erosión en la línea costera, facilitando así la formación de suelo y el establecimiento de la vegetación; además, ayuda a regular las fluctuaciones de temperatura y humedad, proveyendo hábitat a una gran variedad de vida terrestre y acuática.
