Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats

Description
This is not another walking tour. These small group tours whisk you off the beaten path by private tuktuk and offer unlimited beer and soda while you and your English speaking guide watch the city pass by. You will eat where the locals eat at small, family-run businesses and try the best local food at places you can’t find on your own. After 3-4 hours, you will finish at local bar to try some rice wine or beer with the locals!

Itinerary
There are a million reasons Chengdu is an international food destination. It’s a UNESCO city of gastronomy. It’s the most popular Chinese cuisine in China. It has the highest per-capita ratio of restaurants in all of China. And at the same time, visitors know very little about food in Chengdu. Travel by tuktuk and encounter spots you could never find on your own for a mix of street food, sit-down restaurants, and family-run joints: Chengdu Street Crepes: This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange at a street-stall-turned-shop. Sichuan-style Wontons: Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou,” at a family restaurant where they’re made to order. All the Noodles: Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish. Classic Sichuan Dishes: Sample local delicacies like Mapo Tofu (there’s plenty of not-so-spicy dishes here too).
End the night trying house-made plum wine in a 70s-80s themed bar that captures a unique turning point in China’s history. The bar is a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station.

Chris was an absolute legend, he was so friendly, such a good chat and was so informative. This was my first food tour and not something I would normally consider but Chris completely changed my mind. The food was amazing, the tour was lots of fun and this was a highlight of my trip. We got some souvenirs, unlimited drinks and further reccomendations for our trip. This tour is a MUST if in chengdu!
Fiona was an awesome guide! We had a great time with her on the food tour and ate lots of delicious food. There was 1 small hiccup with some raucous drunk locals but it was all good in the end. Certainly not enough to spoil what was an excellent experience however!
Fantastic experience! Gave us an opportunity to try a bunch of local cuisine while explaining the origins of the food…. All while cruising around town in a wicked tuk tuk! Admission Fee seemed expensive before the adventure, but we got lots of food and drinks so afterwards we think is was very reasonable! It was a good length of tour, ran at a good pace! Our guide was awesome! She was very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic! We plan on doing more lost plate tours in other cities now!
What a fun Chengdu night you had in that tuk tuk! It was great to read that the mix of local cuisine and the stories behind the food made the experience feel so worth it for you. You set the pace perfectly, and it landed that way.
Fiona was an exceptional guide. Her extensive knowledge and humour made the experience highly enjoyable. The food was delicious with a versatile range of flavours. It is recommended to arrive on an empty stomach as they are generous with food and drink. The service was exceptional and Fiona ensured that every aspect of the experience was worthwhile.
Fiona’s knowledge and humour clearly made the evening enjoyable for you, and she kept every part of your experience feeling worthwhile. The generous food and drink left you with such a memorable Chengdu night!
So must fun and dekicious food. Very good guide and we visit some very cool foodplaces you would normally couldnt find. Just go!
We really appreciate you exploring Chengdu with us. It was a blast showing you those hard-to-find food spots and sharing so many delicious dishes.
We had a great experience with Fiona who took us on a 5 stop tour. It was the perfect length and were well fed after tasting a variety of food. We went from stop to stop on Tuk Tuks and Fiona made sure our kids allergies were taking into account at each stop, Highly recommended.
We loved having your family out with us in Chengdu. Fiona made sure the kids' allergies were safely looked after at every stop, and the tuk-tuk rides are always a fun way to get around.
Amazing food tour of all the highlights of Szechuan cuisine. Our guide Fiona was attentive, knowledgeable and super friendly and helpful. She accommodated food allergies in our group, making us feel safe to enjoy the delicious food. The plum wine stop at the end was a wonderful experience and the teens in our group loved the interactive venue. The tuk tuk drivers were also great and helped us cover a lot of ground. All in all a great experience and highly recommended!
Thanks for joining us in Chengdu. It is great to hear that Fiona handled the allergy accommodations so smoothly and that the teens had a blast at the interactive plum wine stop.
Monica was an amazing guide. She was so friendly and good to talk to, and we ate the best food of my life. Thank you so much to her!
We're so glad to hear that you had such a fantastic experience with Monica and enjoyed the food! Your feedback encourages us to continue providing great experiences. Thanks for sharing! 😊
This was a wonderful food tour led by Monica of Lost Plate! Many food tours are done on foot so you can only cover a small area but as we were traveling by tuktuk (which was a great experience in itself), we were able to cover more ground and go to places that specialised in that dish. We went to 4 places and tried over 10 dishes...as they say "come hungry!" We had many local snacks (and Monica kept the beers flowing), before stopping for dinner at a very local restaurant that I would never have spotted. By then, I was so full I couldn't fit another bite. The evening was full of conversations, not only with Monica, but also with our fellow tourists. Then we finished the night off at a gorgeous retro bar where we sampled some local drinks before we said goodbye. Definitely do this tour if you want a little local insight to the most popular dishes in Chengdu.
Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the food tour with Monica and the unique experience of traveling by tuktuk. Your insights highlight the benefits of exploring more comprehensive areas and delving into authentic local cuisine. Your recommendation means a lot!
We had the most incredible food tour with our guide Fiona! This was our third food tour with this company having previously gone on a tour in Beijing and Xi’an and we have loved it each time! This tour was even more amazing due to our guide. Fiona was so kind and friendly! Throughout the night we would check in on us to make sure we were enjoying our night or needed another drink. She was so fun to talk to and honestly felt like a friend we’ve known for a long time. The best food tours company I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing in each location!
Thank you for sharing your experience! We're thrilled you had an incredible food tour with Fiona and have enjoyed our tours in multiple locations. We strive to provide memorable experiences with amazing guides. Your feedback reassures us we’re on the right path. We look forward to hosting you on more food tours in the future! 🍴
