Welcome to the Europe’s largest open sea square (12280 square metres!). The square is so beautiful that it would be worth coming to Trieste just to see it. But many more attractions await us!
An ancient Roman gate probably dating back to the 1st century A.D., opened in the ancient walls of the Roman Tergeste, built by Augustus in 33 B.C.
This stands on the top of the hill of the same name, which was already the acropolis of the Roman city of Tergeste and probably the site of a sacred area. The present building, with five naves, is the result of the unification, in the early 14th century, of two separate religious complexes.
One of the most representative symbols of the city, San Giusto Castle stands on the hill of the same name overlooking the city, its gulf and its hinterland. The entrance ticket (not included) costs €6: if you want to enjoy a beautiful view of the gulf it is worth it!
The Roman theatre in Trieste is located at the foot of San Giusto hill, in the heart of the city, on the edge of the historic area.
Throughout the 19th century, this area was the economic heart of Trieste. Today it is an elegant square with several interesting buildings and some interesting facts that I will tell you about!
Amazing building in the centre of the city. The church of St Spiridione is built in the shape of a Greek cross, reflecting the Byzantine style of eastern churches and has a central dome that is higher than the four bell towers.
Commonly called ‘Sant’Antonio Nuovo’, it takes its name from an earlier church dating back to the mid 18th century. Built between 1828 and 1849, the new church was inspired by the classical majesty of important Roman monuments.
The Grand Canal, 370 metres long and 28 metres wide is a symbol of the city: a walk along its banks is a must!
A walkway over the sea of over 200 metres, a magical place to take a walk and oxygenate yourself at any time of day, in any season, and be enchanted watching the autumn sunsets when the palaces of the Rive are tinged with red, or if you are a real daredevil, run braving the bora at 100km/h to get to the top of the wind rose and see if you can stand!

This self-guided walking tour is an easy and economical way to learn about Trieste and its interesting history. The link was easy to upload and user-friendly as we walked through the city (at our own pace) to explore the various sites covered on the tour.
Simple and flexible way of seeing Trieste. Mostly clear directions and interesting “factoids” to enjoy. It’s a low cost way of learning all about the city
I hadn't tried this type of tour before, it allows you to go at your own pace and wander around more freely. I liked it
I’m not sure why this has so many good reviews, it’s entirely read by an irritating AI voice. Don’t waste your money.
Ciao! We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy our Trieste guide! It’s actually one of the most popular with users. We’ve recently added new tips from our local guide, and we’ll soon be updating the recording to make it even more enjoyable. I hope this review helps other travelers! Ciao Federica Walking Cap
It was ok. The audio voice is an annoying AI one, I thought it was going to be narrated by a local. The information is fairly minimal, that can be read on plaques around the city. Very hilly, bear in mind if you arent fit. Ok for the price.
We had a good time. Nice and knowledgeable guide. Good advice. You can follow it at your own pace since it is an audio guide.
Excellent self guided tour which is easy to follow and understand. Very inexpensive and can be done at your own pace. Excellent value and recommend.
A great value for money and easy to follow self guided tour. Very much enjoyed it and found it a good way to see the city.
A more than positive experience; we saw a beautiful city with this guide, but very leisurely at our own pace, enjoying every situation.
