Amazing full day experience

Absolutely amazing experience. Great day with lots to see but no time pressure so you are free to explore and see everything. Miguel was amazing and i hope you get to have him as a guide. 10/10 only good things to say, definitely worth it!

Good if you have no transportation but don't expect an actual tour.

The itinerary said the tickets were included in the price, but we had to pay when we got there. There wasn't much explanation in the tour. There were other tour guides that went inside the churches and were talking about the history and we got a cliffnotes version of a few sentences. We had no choice in where to eat, since the tour guide probably has a deal with that hotel. There were plenty of restaurants near by that we could go to.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations, but we would like to clarify a few important points. The option you booked was our small-group tour, whose description clearly states that entrance tickets are not included. Tickets are included only with the private-tour option, which was not the option selected for your reservation. Regarding lunch, guests are never required to eat at the restaurant we recommend, and the meal is not included in the tour price. We suggest this restaurant because it consistently provides the quality, service, and pricing we want for our guests. As this is a long tour covering three monuments with specific visiting schedules, efficient meal service is also important. Nevertheless, guests are always free to choose another nearby restaurant, provided that the group’s agreed departure time is respected. We regret if this was not communicated clearly enough during your tour. Our guides provide historical context for each destination and accompany guests inside the monuments, explaining the most significant areas. At the same time, we try to maintain a balance between detailed explanations and allowing guests time to observe, explore, and connect what they have learned with what they are seeing. Many of our guests specifically praise this approach, although we understand that you were expecting more continuous and in-depth commentary. We must also admit that this review came as a surprise to us. During the experience, no dissatisfaction or concern was communicated to the guide. On the contrary, you repeatedly said that you were enjoying the day and, at the end, generously thanked the guide for his service. For that reason, we find it difficult to reconcile the concerns expressed in this review with the feedback and appreciation shown throughout the tour. Had any of these concerns been raised during the day, our guide would have been happy to clarify the ticket conditions, explain the available lunch options, or adapt the level of historical commentary whenever possible. Nevertheless, we sincerely regret that the experience ultimately did not match your expectations. We appreciate your comments and will use them to improve how we communicate these details and check guests’ satisfaction during future tours. Best Regards

Easy country-side UNESCO monuments visit

We were in a small group with the super fun and informative guide (Miguel Guerreiro), who made sure we had the best time. It was a smart choice to come by car in an excursion, as the towns visited are in the countryside and not well connected. I would strongly advise Miguel’s services!

Operator response

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted that you enjoyed the friendly small-group atmosphere and Miguel’s fun and informative guidance. Travelling by car is indeed one of the best ways to explore these beautiful historic towns comfortably and make the most of the day. We truly appreciate your strong recommendation and hope to welcome you again on another memorable experience in Portugal!

Great immersive trip

We went with Miguel and he was amazing! A lot of other tour companies I researched did not hit all of the sites we did in the same tour so this was definitely worth it. Miguel made the full day entertaining and very informative and we had fun conversations while driving to each site. Definitely give this tour a try.

Thank you for recommending The Guru Guide, and we hope to welcome you again for another memorable adventure in Portugal!

Cancelled by Tour Provider at 10:25 pm the night before

I would give The Guru Guide 0/5 stars if I could. I booked this tour with them on Feb 24, 2026 for 8/6/2026. The tour *would* have met at 8:15 for a scheduled 8:30 departure. However, at 10:25 pm on 8/5/2025, The Guru Guide messaged to let me know they were cancelling the tour. Why? It was not an emergency, medical or otherwise. The reason expressly provided in their cancellation is not enough people had booked the tour. If they had let me know a week or even a few days in advance, I could almost certainly have booked a similar tour. Instead, though I went online immediately upon receiving their cancellation, every booking company had closed tours departing before business hours the next day. Since I was leaving for the airport noon the day after that, the day of the cancelled tour was my last chance to go hours out of Lisbon to see Tomar. I had no reason to make alternative plans since I believed up to their 10:25 pm cancellation that the tour would go forward. I don't know when, if ever, I will be able to return to this part of the world. I am pretty unhappy to have missed my opportunity to visit Tomar. Really super unprofessional. Book at your own risk! UPDATE: The tour provider’s responded that they attempted to contact me, and that “to avoid disappointing me” they didn’t cancel until the last minute. Now, I did have another tour provider contact me 5 days before their scheduled tour (to Sintra), and we were able to reschedule successfully. For the sake of argument, let’s say The Guru Guide also attempted to contact me, and the message went astray due to tech or travel issues. Why didn’t they attempt to contact me again, and if for whatever reason I still did not respond, cancel earlier than 10.5 hrs before the departure date? By The Guru Guide’s own terms, which they emailed to me and I have attached, their company’s cutoff for cancellation is 24 hrs before scheduled departure. That is still a very short time, particularly given many of us are traveling, jetlagged, and/or have less connectivity than we do at home. However, the difference between 24 hrs and 10.5 hrs is not merely 13+ hours. It is time during business hours, when it may be possible to book another tour or event. By 10:25 pm, events and tickets for next day tours or admissions are sold out in the high season. Being in the travel industry, it’s impossible they don’t know this. Time is absolutely needed to make arrangements. Professionals make mistakes. If The Guru Guide admitted they made a mistake, that would be one thing. Cancelling 10.5 hrs in advance after business hours, and then doubling down my maintaining this was to avoid disappointing me? That’s gaslighting. The way to avoid disappointing people, assuming they reached out and could not get ahold of the person, is simply to try again. And if that doesn’t work, to cancel a few days in advance, so that when the traveler checks the booking again, it's obvious the booking is no longer live, and other arrangement can still be made. Instead, The Guru Guide literally cancelled the night before, hence my true disappointment at being unable to visit Tomar, which was a major motivator for my trip to Lisbon. Again, I can only recommend that you book with another company with better admin, in order to avoid being caught in the same situation as yours truly.

Operator response

Dear Grace, We are sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations and fully understand your disappointment at not being able to visit Tomar. However, we would like to clarify the circumstances, as some important details are missing from your review. You booked our small-group option, which, as clearly stated in the tour terms and conditions, requires a minimum of three participants to operate. Approximately one week before the scheduled date, our back-office team identified that the minimum number was unlikely to be reached. We contacted you through the GetYourGuide chat and offered to move your booking to 7 August, when the tour was already confirmed with six participants. As we received no response, we also attempted to contact you using the email address and telephone number provided with your reservation. Unfortunately, we still received no reply. Rather than cancelling the tour one week in advance, we kept your booking open until the evening before departure in the hope of receiving additional reservations and being able to operate as planned. Regrettably, no further participants booked, and without a response to our proposed alternative, we had no option but to cancel and issue the corresponding refund. We genuinely understand your frustration. However, the cancellation was not made without warning or effort on our part: we contacted you several days beforehand, proposed a confirmed alternative for the following day, tried different communication channels, and waited until the last possible moment to avoid disappointing you. We are truly sorry that our attempts to reach you were unsuccessful and that you were unable to visit Tomar on this occasion. Kind regards, Hugo The Guru Guide UPDATE: Dear Grace, We fully understand that receiving the final cancellation at 10:25 p.m. left you with very limited options to reorganize your plans, particularly during the high season. We sincerely regret the impact this had on your opportunity to visit Tomar. As previously explained, we contacted you approximately one week before the tour through the GetYourGuide messaging system and offered to move your reservation to the following day, when the tour was already confirmed. We subsequently attempted to reach you through the contact details associated with your booking. As no response was received, we kept the reservation open while hoping that additional participants would join and allow the tour to operate. Our intention was genuinely to avoid cancelling an experience you had planned well in advance. However, we acknowledge that waiting until late in the evening before departure ultimately left you without sufficient time to arrange a suitable alternative. Regardless of our intentions or the earlier communication attempts, we recognize that the final timing of the cancellation caused considerable inconvenience and disappointment, and we are sincerely sorry for that. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the need for repeated contact attempts and an earlier final decision when a guest cannot be reached. We will take this experience into account when reviewing our communication and cancellation procedures for future small-group tours. We never intended to dismiss your experience or feelings. We understand why you were disappointed, particularly as visiting Tomar was an important part of your trip, and we regret that we were unable to provide the experience you had been looking forward to. Kind regards, Hugo The Guru Guide
