The origin of Tokyo. During the Edo period, Asakusa was Tokyo’s main entertainment district, filled with kabuki theaters, geisha houses, and street performers. While much has changed, the spirit of festivity lives on — especially during the Sanja Matsuri, one of Tokyo’s wildest festivals. With its deep history and hidden gems behind every alley, Asakusa is best explored with someone who can explain the stories behind what you see. From samurai legends to snack secrets — let us show you around.
Akihabara (秋葉原), often affectionately called “Akiba,” is located in central Tokyo, in the Chiyoda ward. What started as a post-war black market for radio parts has grown into one of the most vibrant and unique neighborhoods in Tokyo. Akihabara is a playground for tech lovers and pop culture fans, where you’ll find everything from the latest electronics to underground anime merchandise.
Located in northeastern Tokyo, Ueno Park is one of the city’s most beloved green spaces, known for its rich cultural offerings and seasonal beauty. Originally part of Kaneiji Temple, the park became public land in 1873 and now features wide paths, museums, and over 1,000 cherry trees! Slightly down the hill, you'll find lively shopping streets like Ameya-Yokocho, offering local snacks, souvenirs, and fashion. The neighborhood blends history and everyday life, making it perfect for a relaxed day of exploring. Whether you're a culture lover, nature enthusiast, or casual stroller, Ueno Park offers a little something for everyone.

Jero was phenomenal! Book him with confidence. An absolute gentleman who is wonderful at his craft. He’s a wonderful story teller and has tremendous depth of Japan. His viewpoint is informed and well rounded providing a comprehensive experience of Japan. Our family does a good amount of traveling and Jero was the best tour guide we’ve ever had. Thank you, Jero, for a memorable experience!
In advance: We booked the tour at short notice the day before and chose the 8-hour guided tour. Our guide, Jero, picked us up at the hotel and we started the tour right there. He told us a lot about the different districts, mentioned fun facts along the way, and also shared a bit about life in Tokyo. The tour was casual and relaxed - it felt more like a friend showing you the city. Making stops to look at things was no problem. Throughout the journey, he also gave us tips and recommendations. We are glad that we booked this tour! It was really helpful to get an initial insight into the metropolis and made the following days easier. :) I can wholeheartedly recommend it!
Jero gave us an excellent tour including Meiji Shrine and all around Shibuya and Shinjuku, showed us how to use the train and metro systems, accommodated our need to slow down and feed our eleven year old by directing us to an exceptional ramen bar, and talked to us extensively about Japanese culture and life. He took many fun photos of our family at various sites and was focused on ensuring that we got what we wanted out of our tour. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that you had such a great time exploring Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Shinjuku with us. It was a pleasure helping your family navigate the transit system, sharing insights into Japanese culture, and tracking down that exceptional ramen bar for a well deserved break. We love capturing those fun family memories along the way and ensuring the day is tailored perfectly to your pace. Thank you for highly recommending our services!
Our tours with Jero from Shiny-Tours were a true highlight of our trip to Japan. With his professionalism, friendliness, and flexibility, he created a personal travel experience that exceeded our expectations. We were particularly impressed by how individually he addressed the interests of our group and adapted the tours accordingly. With his extensive knowledge, exciting background information, and cultural insights, he introduced us to Tokyo and Kyoto in a lively and understandable way. Thanks to his excellent organization and accommodating nature, we felt well taken care of at all times. The tours were well-prepared and flexible enough for spontaneous requests. We sincerely thank Jero for this special experience and wholeheartedly recommend him and Shiny-Tours. Anyone looking to discover Tokyo and Kyoto authentically, informatively, and especially in German, will find themselves in the right place here.
The tour was very informative, and it was also very interesting to talk with Vanessa about the history of Japan. It was also very pleasant that Vanessa picked us up from the hotel. What we found a bit disappointing was that we assumed Jero would be doing the tour with us. The day before, no one had contacted us until we reached out to inform that our tour would take place the next day.
Outstanding. Vanessa was very friendly, provided great tips, and was an excellent companion. I would book a tour with her again and again.
Our Tokyo tour with Franz was an amazing experience and honestly felt more like spending the day with a friend than being on a tour. Our guide was incredibly fun, easygoing, and made the entire experience memorable, and Jero and Hana were such a great time to be around as well. We saw so many great spots around the city and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo.
Thank you so much for the amazing feedback! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that your tour felt more like spending the day with a friend that is exactly what we aim for. It was a wonderful time having you around, and we're so glad you enjoyed exploring the city. We truly appreciate the warm recommendation!
On our first day, I have booked the 6h tour of Tokyo, in order to learn about the local transport and to get to familiar with the place before we start exploring alone. Very shortly after the booking Jero was in touch with me to ask if I had any questions and was very helpful. Even before the tour started, I was really happy with the customer service provided. On the day, our guide Vanessa who spoke English and German as well as Japanese was absolutely incredible, providing background knowledge on the places we visited with just right amount of info on history and present situation. But most importantly we thanks to her we have managed to see SO MUCH ! In those short 6 hours we have seen Meiji Shrine, Takeshita street, Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjuku , we took metro to Asakusa where we have seen the Sky tower, Omoide Yokocho, Senso-ji temple and my son also wanted to see Harajuku so that was our last stop. In short , without Vanessa we would have never managed to see so much in such a short time, I definitely recommend this tour it is worth every penny!
Thank you so much for this incredible review! We are thrilled that our tour gave you the perfect, stress-free start to your Tokyo adventure. Ensuring great communication right from the booking is very important to us, so we're happy you felt well taken care of from the start. It’s amazing how much ground you covered in 6 hours! It’s the ultimate compliment for us to know it was worth every penny. Enjoy the rest of your time exploring Japan on your own, and safe travels!
Our tour guide was Vanessa and she was delightful. She met us at our hotel and made suggestions before we started. We opted to start at the farthest place first and we were on our way. Vanessa was very knowledgeable about all the places we saw and was able to answer all our questions! We had a great time with her and would do it again if she could be our tour guide!
Thank you so much for the lovely review! We are so glad that you had a wonderful time and that customizing the route together right from your hotel made for a great start. We always aim to provide insightful and personalized experiences, so hearing that all your questions were answered and that you'd love to tour with us again means the world to our team. We'll be sure to pass your kind words along! Safe travels and we hope to welcome you back to Japan someday!
We were out with Vanessa. It was a private tour. Vanessa was very well-informed, and as a native speaker, it was of course beneficial for us that she could explain everything to us in German. She was also very proficient in the Japanese language. She was attentive to our wishes and schedules. We were able to design the tour very flexibly with her. We can only recommend it.
