This full-day tour begins by driving north from Athens, we arrive at Thermopylae, the historical Pass of Thermopylae where the battle took place between the Persians and Spartans. Our next stop is going to be the sacred site of Delphi with its Temple of Apollo. Delphi is a UNESCO-recognized archeological site that’s among Greece’s most iconic places. Leonidas was a king of the Greek city-state of Sparta, and the 17th of the Agiad line, a dynasty which claimed descent from the mythological demigod Heracles and Cadmus. Leonidas was son of King Anaxandridas II. He succeeded his half-brother King Cleomenes I to the throne in 489 BC.
Leonidas had a notable participation in the Second Persian War, where he led the allied Greek forces to a last stand at the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) while attempting to defend the pass from the invading Persian army; he died at the battle and entered myth as the leader of the 300 Spartans. While the Greeks lost this battle, they were able to expel the Persian invaders in the following year.

The tholos is part of the Delphi UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Founded in 1903, it has been rearranged several times and houses the discoveries made at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which dates from the Late Helladic (Mycenean) period to the early Byzantine era.
Organized in fourteen rooms on two levels, the museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi, architectural elements, like the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, and ex-votos dedicated to the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo, like the Sphinx of Naxos.

The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony, light, healing, and oracles occupied the most important and prominent position in the Delphic Panhellenic Sanctuary. The edifice with the partially restored colonnade visible today dates to the 20th century BC and, according to ancient accounts, five different temples were built throughout history. The famous oracle, the Pythia, operated inside the temple, the location chosen, according to one tradition, due to a sacred chasm beneath the site emitting vapors, which were inhaled by the Pythia.

Thermopylae and Delphi.
Our day trip to Thermopylae and Delphi was no doubt amazing. It was a bit long but at the of the day this was not a factor. All credit goes to our driver George whose pleasing personality , depth of knowledge on Greek history and facts gets a 5 star. The trip was well planned and managed. We also spent some time at Arachova at the end of the trip. We also wish George succes in his profession.

A wonderful experience,...
A wonderful experience, both historically and visually. Spectacular views travelling to Thermopylae and Delfi. As Greek/Spartan history buffs, we were in awe of seeing the battle field, the sea and the place where Leonidas actually fell. The drive thru the charming town of Delfi was interesting, full of little restaurants and shops high in the mountains. The archeological site of Delfi is a work in process. There are a number of temples before you reach the top to the Oracle. Beware of very slippery marble steps as you climb, shoes with good grip are needed. Access to the coliseum and lower temple in the archeological site have been closed temporarily until repairs from a recent rockslide have been made. Christos of LS Tours was the best. His english was excellent, explanations when we had questions were thorough. He was very helpful, pleasant and made our tour very enjoyable.

Awesome family trip to Delphi and Thermopylae
Delphi is amazing and a must see site. Stopping for lunch at Arachova was very nice as well. I would recommend Thermopylae only for those really interested in the history because there’s not much to see on the site itself. However, the highlight of the tour was our driver Christos. He took care of everything, stopped with us to grab breakfast and coffee when we hadn’t made breakfast plans yet, and really made the day for us. We were so happy we booked him again for an Athens tour the next day. Definitely ask for him if you book this experience.

Wonderful day touring with George!
George was a wonderful tour guide! He’s very knowledgeable on Greek history, mythology, and the area. We had a lovely day touring Delphi, Arachova, and other beautiful villages. The restaurant he took us to in Delphi was delicious and had the most spectacular view. I highly recommend George!

Thermopylae and Delphi private full day tour from Athens
Chris was an excellent guide!! Very knowledgeable, sweet and an absolute gentleman. Open up doors for our tween girl and was having conversations with her. He took us to this amazing restaurant the food was amazing. I would highly recommend him as a guide. He made our day perfect!!

Fantastic guide. We took our 11 year old and 16 year old. Our 11 year old was getting motion sickness on way and he pulled over and was very kind. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at a restaurant selected by our guide. Highly recommend this tour.
