The Story of Gaudi and Modernism Private Walking Tour

Description
If you just want FACTS, then sorry this tour is NOT for you. There will be facts and they are important! But never let the facts get in the way of a good Story! It starts in the 19th century. Of industrial change; a city's expansion; new, revolutionary political philosophies; a new artistic movement; and the life of it's architectural genius - Antoní Gaudí. Delve into Modernism's themes and how social, cultural and political forces shaped the physical appearances of these stunning buildings. We'll see stories of on the make property developers; tobacco planters on ego trips; a surgeon with a (possible) inferiority complex; and dragons. Lots of dragons! Then we go to his unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, with an explanation of this unique, beguiling church! As a professional actor I will try and weave my story telling skills with my passion for history, the serious and the humourous, connecting all these strands together and connecting you as well to this phenomenal time.

If you are looking for the backstory of Gaudi and see his main designed homes this is your tour with Patrick! We walked to the main homes then travel by metro to La Sagrada Familia. Along the way took breaks to rest if needed.
Patrick was such an engaging guide! His knowledge of the history of Barcelona’s old town truly brought the city to life. We took pauses to reflect on the times, and what the city may have looked like back then to really ground the wonder of the buildings we looked at. His storytelling was vivid and immersive—it felt like stepping back in time. He knew fascinating little secrets about each of the buildings we visited—things you’d never find in a guidebook—which gave me a whole new level of appreciation for the architecture, and how it interacted with the intricate interplay of money, power, politics, and religion. Every detail was eye-opening. Patrick was highly accommodating and responsive, very clear about instructions to find the tour location, and him specifically. If you’re even remotely curious about Barcelona’s history, and are considering visiting the Gaudi houses, make sure to take this tour first to really get your money's worth, and know what to look for. You’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of the city and its soul. Ever thankful for one of the most memorable and fine tours I've been on, no exaggeration.
Patrick’s Gaudi & Modernism tour (booked as a private tour) was a highlight of my family’s trip to Spain that spanned multiple Andalusia stops and Barcelona. Patrick is an enthralling storyteller who held our attention, including those of my 11-year-old and 14-year-old boys, with ease. His tour was both informative and entertaining, and also reasonably priced, especially for a group of four. In fact, Patrick’s tour of Sagrada Familia (external only) was significantly better than the official guided tour of Sagrada Familia that we experienced the following day. I’m a meticulous planner and have traveled extensively across the globe, both solo and with my family (husband and 2 kids). Even though I research every destination, I’ve always found guided tours to be rewarding. After researching on TripAdvisor and other travel forums, I decided on Patrick’s tour and booked quickly after only one email exchange. I emailed him and booked directly (click on the “visit website” link) which I prefer to do so that small businesses can keep more of their revenue. Our private tour with Patrick was the first thing we did upon arrival in Barcelona. Knowing that we had several Gaudi stops lined up, I wanted to make sure that my family understood the history of modernism and Gaudi, and Patrick’s tour did not disappoint. It was the perfect intro to Barcelona’s history and distinctive architecture. My kids tout Patrick’s tour as their favorite of the many tours in Spain that we experienced, including other private tours - believe me, that’s a high bar because my kids are a tough crowd! For the remainder of our stay, we found ourselves identifying buildings that were Modernist, using the information that Patrick had imparted. Thank you, Patrick, for an enriching and memorable tour!
Patrick is quite a storyteller. He was an incredible guide on our tour of Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona! He shared stories about the stunning buildings and their rich history, keeping us captivated throughout. I don't want to spoil too much about the tour but as Patrick will say: "Dragons, dragons everywhere". Highly recommend, thanks Patrick, this will last as one of our memories from Barcelona. Great walking tour with a lot of info, a must for first time visitors to barcelona Very knowledgeable guide. This was my second tour.
Patrick's tour was one of the best ones I've joined in my years of travelling around Europe. He shared Gaudi and the Modernism architecture with such captivating emotions and stories that will transport you back into those days. I especially love the details he shared about the design inspirations and backgrounds of the families from those houses. They make the already magical houses become even more alive. On a side note, Patrick normally operates in small groups only so you can ask lots of questions and hear information more clearly, especially in the hustle of Passeig de Gracia. Throughout the tour, I have also seen many other tour groups come and go, but none seem to stop at a spot as long as we did, so if you want a thorough explanation of the buildings, I highly recommend booking Patrick's tour. You will love it and Barcelona more.
We throughly enjoyed the tour with Patrick, he was a knowledgeable guide and offered a great tour that explored the complexities of architecture during the 19th century and the influence of Gaudi on Barcelona. Patrick was a great storyteller and was able to deliver lots of interesting information over the course of the tour. Would recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona.
We have visited Barcelona for the 3rd time and visited one of the Gaudi designed houses before but the tour was full of information we did not know. Patrick does a good build up for the tour and also shares some interesting Catalan story related to the buildings you'll see. It's not a long walk and definitely interesting, much recommended!
We did the Gaudi and Modernism tour with Patrick; it was simply fascinating! Native English speaking, full of life guide ,bring's a lot of fun and jokes in the whole tour. It was like a great rock concert, as we were going it just kept getting better and better! Patrick also helped us a lot giving extra tips how to use the public transportation sistem. He was very pasionate, you can see that he loves what he's doing. I highly recommend it!
We had a really wonderful tour with Patrick. The tour was well paced, informative, and fun. It was a great way to get a feel for Barcelona and gave us a new perspective to take with us as we adventured the city after the tour.
