Good to go on a History walk that deals with factual Local History Would be a good idea to finish in one of the excellent hostelries 🍺

Join local guide John for a fascinating 1.5-hour history walk through the charming Cornish town of Padstow. Discover the stories hidden within its narrow streets, historic harbour, and centuries-old buildings as you explore how this picturesque fishing port has evolved over time. As you stroll along the waterfront and through the town’s winding lanes, John will bring Padstow’s past to life — from its maritime heritage and tales of seafaring adventure to the traditions, trades, and people that shaped the town’s unique character. Highlights include: • The historic harbour, once bustling with fishermen and traders. • Insights into Padstow’s shipbuilding and fishing industries. • Stories of local legends, smugglers, and sailors. This relaxed and informative walk offers a perfect way to experience Padstow’s rich heritage, blending storytelling with beautiful scenery. Suitable for all ages, the walk covers a gentle route lasting around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The walk begins at the White Shelter on North Quay Parade, near the ferry landing. Here, we’ll explore the ancient origins of Padstow — from its early trading links with distant civilizations to the arrival of St Petroc, whose legacy shaped the town’s spiritual heritage.
We now move along North Quay toward the venerable inner harbour, which has been home to ancient buildings with a secret passageway, a ghost and Monks. At this time we also learn about the poverty of Padstow before the coming of the railway.
We now make our way into Mill Square, once home to a water powered mill and the site of some terrible outbreaks of disease in the mid 19th century.
The Padstow History Walk - Tales, Tales and Traditions lasts about 1h 30min. The itinerary has 3 stops.

A great experience. A fantastic way to spend time in Padstow learning about the area it’s history and characters .
Great tour. Guide was friendly, informative and fun. Learnt lots of the history of Padstow. Really enjoyable morning.
This is such a fabulous walk, and we strongly recommend it. John is an excellent guide, personable, great company, and fun. He's very well researched, puts across his content in a very engaging way, and you find out loads about Padstow's past. What a place - so far removed from how things are today. Thinking about going along? Just go!
We definitely recommend doing John's Padstow History walk, we have had a wonderful time learning about Padstow. John is very knowledgeable and makes the walk fun.
Excellent tour with knowledgeable guide. Very enjoyable stroll around Padstow. Great experience
Fun, informative and engaging tour, John made sure the whole group were enjoying it and we had many different ages amongst us - great guide !
John was great - personable, fun, and gave a good narrative throughout the tour. However it was a bit slow maybe, and I don’t think it would keep kiddos engaged. Went than 90 min, as well, just fyi there is that potential. But for us three adults, it was a good tour and good information. Thanks!
Hi Tina, thanks for your review. I can probably put your mind at rest by saying that I very rarely host children on my walk but when I do, I obviously tailor my input to keep them engaged. As for the overrun, I can only go as fast as my guests! I could cut some out but I’m not sure where. John
John had good historical knowledge with plenty of personal details. He was very friendly and made sure all the party were included.
The lovely John is the perfect guide/host. We enjoyed our tour round Padstow. Learnt lots, had a few laughs. I great little trip out. Highly recommended 👍
