One of Ellen Scripps’ many gifts to La Jolla. We learn what makes it unique.
We will not tour the museum, but it is the site of Ellen Scripps’ home in La Jolla, which is incorporated into the museum.
The La Jolla Historical Society is housed in Wisteria Cottage, which was the residence of Ellen Scripps’ half-sister Virginia (Jenny). We won’t go in the museum, but you will learn how Wisteria Cottage has been used over the years, as well as fun facts about Jenny.
St. James by the Sea is a beautiful church. But what stands there now is not the original structure. Where did it go?
Ground Zero La Jolla. There is a lot of history at and near this intersection, and we have the photos to prove it!
The Cave Store is the second longest continuously operating enterprise in La Jolla (we’ll see the oldest too). You’ll learn why the original owner decided to build a tunnel to Sunny Jim’s cave, and who was Sunny Jim anyway?
La Jolla Cove is the site of caves, sea lions, cormorant rookeries, and unparalleled beauty.
South of La Jolla Cove, this park stretches between La Jolla Cove and Children’s Pool and is one of the most beautiful parts of La Jolla.
The last thing Ellen Scripps gave to La Jolla while she was still alive. Beautiful break wall and lots of seals.
We’ll see The Wedding Bowl and the La Jolla Tide Pools

Chas was fantastic. The fountain of information about the growth and history of beautiful La Jolla. We really enjoyed it.
We had a wonderful tour, was really highlight of our trip to San Diego!!! About 3 hours and 3 miles.
This tour was exceptional. Chas was absolutely amazing. His knowledge of the area is out of this world. We really enjoyed the 120-minute walk of the La Jolla neighborhoods. We learned how key players were instrumental in growing La Jolla into what it is today, a true gem. The interesting facts about the local buildings and their fascinating history made the tour so much fun, too. The walk along the coves was stunning as we saw different types of birds, sea lions, and seals. This tour is a must if you’re visiting the San Diego/La Jolla area. Thank you, Chas, for the experience. We appreciate you!

My husband & I are both locals and we absolutely LOVED the Historic La Jolla Walking Tour. Over two hours & fifteen minutes we learned so much about our beloved town. Chas was a fantastic, charming guide & delivered an entertaining, fact filled tour. While walking through thru the village & along the stunning coastline teeming with wildlife, we heard countless poignant stories about the origin of La Jolla. This tour is perfect for both locals as well as out of towners. So inspiring. We will never forget it. Thanks Chas!

He does a wonderful job tailoring the experience to his audience, which made our private tour feel very personal and enjoyable.
