At Vravrona, you'll find a captivating blend of ancient history and Christian heritage. Nestled beside the temple of Artemis/Diana is the church of Saint George, creating a unique juxtaposition. This site, situated in a coastal wetland, used to flood every winter, leading to the construction of bridges that still stand today.
Discover the Temple of Artemis: Dedicated to the goddess Artemis, protector of hunters, animals, and childbirth, Vravrona holds a unique historical significance. Legend has it that Artemis, angered by the killing of two young female bears, inflicted a plague upon Athens. To appease her, Athenians sent young girls aged 5 to 10 to serve her in her temple, known as arkti (bears). Festivals like the Vravronia were held here, featuring music, sports, and poetry recitations.
Located near the awe-inspiring sanctuary of Artemis amidst lush greenery, this small museum holds treasures from Vravrona and Mesogeia. Exhibits range from the Prehistoric to the Roman era, with highlights including sculptures of "She-Bears" and depictions of young devotees honoring the goddess Artemis. Here we have a wide range of ancient toys for children especially little girls since it was Artemis that was linked to 'virginity' their upbringing, education and preparing them for marriage.
Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounio, Sounio 195 00 Greece As you step into the site, you'll be greeted by the majestic Temple of Poseidon, the ancient Greek god of the sea also known as Neptune throughout the Roman world. Surrounding the temple are the remnants of ancient structures, including porticos and houses. Nearby, you'll also find the remains of the Athena Souniada temple. Aside from its historical significance, Cape Sounio is renowned for its panoramic views of the Greek Islands. It is here where the Saronic sea feeds into the Aegean. It's no wonder it's regarded as one of the most romantic spots in Greece.

In the case of an AirBnb apartment, he/she will contact you upon arrival so you can meet at the entrance of the building. If you're arriving at the airport or port, your driver will be waiting for you at the arrival's area, holding a signboard displaying your name, making it easy for you to identify them upon your arrival.

Tas met us at our cruise ship, and loaded up our luggage. He brought Greek cookies, and stopped to buy us coffee! (not an easy task) Driving through the countryside was gorgeous, with small farms & animals. We spent a lovely day at the Temple of Artemis, which is truly a hidden gem! Not too many people, fascinating ruins to walk through, and an excellent museum. Tas is a wealth of historical and cultural information, and truly kind and personable. Most highly recommended!!!

This all-day trip was a fantastic way to see some of the sights outside the city. Peter was a great driver and guide during the travel times between sites. The actual sites themselves were at your own pace, which was a fun way to dig into the history as much as we wanted. The entire tour was great, but the Temple of Poseidon was the highlight (along with lunch on the coast).
