Busy, hot, only 1 lift working to 4th floor. Some interesting art but quite a lot of rubbish. Could have done without the room of penis’ and vaginas and various other sexual imagery on a Monday morning with our young daughter. Coffee wasn’t great - cup didn’t have a handle.
A very different experience to the art I have seen before! (perhaps a little too much nudity for my liking) I would strongly reccommend you not bringing young children up to 11 yrs as some scenes are quite upsetting
I visited Tate Modern on 17 July 2026 with a friend, who is a museum member, to see two exhibitions. Unfortunately, the entire experience was overshadowed before we had even entered the galleries because of the security process. We were made to wait in a long, slow-moving queue simply to reach a desk where a security officer inspected visitors' handbags one by one. My handbag was searched in an extremely intrusive manner. Every compartment was opened, including my makeup bag and wallet, and I was asked to remove both of my mobile phones and open my glasses case. I found the level of scrutiny excessive and, frankly, degrading. I have travelled extensively and have not experienced security checks of this intensity, even at airports. The overall atmosphere created by the security presence was unwelcoming. There seemed to be security staff positioned on every corner, which made the visit feel more intimidating than enjoyable. To make matters worse, the facilities did not reflect the same level of attention. The toilets were not particularly clean, and there was rubbish left on one of the staircases. Overall, I left feeling disappointed and disgusted by the way visitors are treated. I am sharing this experience so that others know what to expect before visiting Tate Modern.
Took the 2 hour tour with Dr. James. He was fantastic! Especially with a 12 year old. Told stories about the artisits and gave historical context so that as art novices we saw the pieces in a totally different way than if we had just visted the museum on our own.
Claudia from Tate Modern took us on the Discovery Tour today (Friday 5 June) - she was absolutely outstanding. Enthusiastic, entertaining and hugely well informed about all the exhibits that we were taken too (as well as those we passed by). Kept us all involved and engaged and it was a TOP tour. Thanks Claudia - gave us such a unique insight to many of the pieces - and a bit of global friendship and kindness thrown in!
A marvelous tour. Highly recommended. Out guide worked very hard to explain the Architecture of the Tate Moderrn. He then went on to show us rooms and installations that we would never have found on our own. Since this was modern and contemporary art , our guide used excellent imagery and descriptive words to help us understand Rothko, Giacometti, Richard Long and many others. He also gave us the context of each work of art.. Wonderful tour!
Visiting the Tate Modern was an incredible experience. The museum is beautifully organized, making it easy to navigate and fully enjoy the vast collection of contemporary and modern art. The variety and quality of the exhibitions are truly impressive, offering something to captivate every visitor. The atmosphere inside is vibrant and inspiring, creating the perfect setting to reflect, explore, and engage with art. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just curious about contemporary culture, Tate Modern is a must-visit destination in London — both for its remarkable collections and the unique, creative energy it exudes.
In London the museum is free. A particular architecture. Amazing museum of modern art on the banks of the sieve. Extraordinary views of London. A must-visit of the permanent or temporary collections.
Our tour guide was fabulous! So very knowledgeable with a sense of humor and perfectly suited to this role. Could not be more pleased. Many Thanks.
This is my favorite museum in London. I love the building the permanent exhibition. Great visit for adults and kids of all ages.
