Table Mountain Half Day Hike: Platteklip Gorge

Communication was excellent from both tour operator and the guide- and I was able to arrange pick up from my hotel for a reasonable fee. My Guide, Rob, was very experienced and knowledgeable. Safety was a high priority. The trail was harder than I’d expected and the wind was high. The cable cars were not running. I decided to turn back before the top due to the strong wind gusts. It was hard to balance on the rocks. Other guides and groups on the mountain also turned round. Over all it was a challenging and thrilling walk up a majestic mountain.

It was fabulous! Way steeper than I thought it would be, so our guide Shanine encouraged me to take a breather and continue onwards. I would not have done it without her words. Btw, the views were fantastic and the sense of accomplishment was great.

Robert was an excellent, knowledgeable guide 😀. Great experience to climb to the top of table mountain . Would highly recommend 👍 .

I had a great time hiking the beautiful Platteklip Gorge! Shanine is a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and friendly. It was an overall amazing experience, definitely a must while you are in Cape Town!

Shanine was an outstanding guide, she was kind, considerate, patient with the hikers that may need time to pace throughout, and she is very knowledgeable about the mountain, the area, the history of Cape Town and South Africa. We enjoyed tremendously the hike, and highly recommend it. Be aware though is a tough hike, shortest but steepest trail to the top of Table Mountain. Worth every effort!

Fantastic hiking experience! Salvie was an excellent guide, always responsive and willing to help and give suggestion also to the other people on the way up to the top if he though they needed some kind of help. The view at the top is spectacular: is not an easy hike, but it definitely worths the effort

Great hike with a great guide! We had a perfect weather for the day. The hike is quite challenging as it is quite steep. The guide was very friendly and helpful in explaining more about the Table Mountain

Fatima was an amazing guide. The hike was a little more difficult than we expected but she went at our pace with needed breaks. The view was spectacular and information she provided about the mountain was great.

This was an AMAZING experience with our SUPERB guide Fatima. My husband and I are so thankful we got to spend the morning with such a knowledgeable, experienced and friendly guide. It was wonderful. We booked the hike a couple of days beforehand and must admit we were a bit disappointed to wake up and find a really murky, misty day. However, once we started the hike we realised that it was actually seriously beautiful and a much better hike than if it had been in blaring sunshine. The mist and clouds added so much atmosphere - and I would say added to the experience. It also meant the trail wasn't as busy as usual, even in high season in January in Cape Town! We saw beautiful flora and fauna, as well as those cute little furry things on the top. Having hiked up the mountain for about 2 hours, it was a relief to get to the top and spend some time wondering around before getting the cable car down. We spent 10 days in Cape Town doing LOADS of stuff and we both agree that this was the absolute HIGHLIGHT of our holiday! A MUST DO!!!!!

We booked our hike during Cape Town's UTC (ultra trail). It was very busy on the trail. The company should not be offering hikes during this race. In addition, some people were playing bagpipes on the mountain and another group was constantly shouting and played music from loudspeakers. One goes to nature to escape the city, not to deal with business and noise. Playing music of any sorts shouldn't be permitted on these hiking trails.

I also usually do not do reviews, but I cannot say enough great things about our experience with Stuart as a guide (also owner of Wild Things Outdoor)! We booked 2 hikes with him through TripAdvisor, taking a leap of faith on reviews. It was the single BEST EXPERIENCE of our trip!!! Stuart takes the time to get to know his guests, and customized our conversation on the hikes to move toward things that we are interested in (science & nature), and I am convinced he would have easily been able to do the same for those interested in history or other areas. He is incredibly knowledgeable and thorough and I know our trips up the mountain wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable without his expertise! I'm also delighted to say that the photos that he graciously took of us climbing and some at the summit of Table Mountain and Lion's Head ended up being some of the best of the entire trip! If I haven't yet convinced you, don't go any further, just book a trip with him - you won't regret it! We will certainly be hiring him again on any return trip to South Africa, as he's even willing to travel to other locations outside of Cape Town. Can't wait!

After the hiking experience, I am very thankful that I was assigned to Stuart (guide and owner of Wild Things Outdoor) when I booked for guided Table Mountain Hike via Viator booking site. Stuart is a very personable, accommodating, and highly professional guide and this makes the whole experience so much more treasured and memorable than hiking up on one's own. I would definitely check up for Stuart from Wild Things Outdoor if I ever return to Cape Town! Likewise, I sincerely conveyed to Stuart that I will entertain him as a friend if he visits Singapore.

Guys, I don’t generally do reviews! However, I must give credit where it is due! I recently returned from a 2-week trip to S. Africa. There were a lot of “first times” for me on this journey, one of which was visiting Cape Town. Table Mountain was definitely top of my list. And, to hike to the top! Let me just say, Stuart went ABOVE & BEYOND to make this happen for me!! I didn't book in advance, but instead called directly to Wild Things Outdoor on the day of. Thankfully, Stuart didn't turn me away. In fact, he gladly reached out to one of his guides, Gregory, who was available within hours to do the hike with me. I did have some initial issues with getting my credit card to work for transactions in the country, but Stuart was incredibly patient and supportive. Including several phone calls and extra emails until I got everything sorted out. That's what I call service! Gregory, my personal guide, reached out to coordinate/communicate and picked me up (as well as dropped me off after the hike) at my Cape Town Air BnB. He was super knowledgeable of the area, Table Mountain and I truly felt like I was hiking with a long-time friend. Because it actually rained the morning of the hike, there were hardly any other hikers on the trail!! Couldn't have been more perfect to enjoy that beauty without many distraction. As we reached the summit, after 3 hours of taking in the already spectacular views, the Sun came out and I got the most unbelievable photos! I would wholeheartedly recommend Stuart & Wild Things! After much debate, we decided to hire a guide to go up the Platteklip Gorge to enhance our experience. I reached out to Wild Things Outdoor and booked our tour. Unfortunately Stuart, the owner, was sick that morning but he quickly jumped into action and arranged for one of his other guides to guide us up the mountain. Nadia met us at our hotel and from the start of our tour we felt comfortable, at ease, and as if we were just spending the day with a friend! She told us all about the mountain, the surrounding areas, and we had a fantastic chat the entire way up the mountain while taking in the views. She managed our expectations throughout the climb, offered encouragement, and in general was very pleasant to hike with. We reached the top and she again told us that we did a great job and we finished with a high five. My parents met us at the top (as only my husband and I did the climb), and Nadia went down just before us so that she could grab the car and meet us at the bottom to drive us back to the hotel---a gesture definitely appreciated as we were exhausted from the hike! Overall we found Wild Things Outdoor to be professional, well priced, and honestly passionate people about what they do. We're happy we found them to hike with and would highly recommend them!
