Surfing Lessons at Big Bay

I had an amazing time with Aiden. As a complete beginner, I managed to ride smaller waves a couple of times within just an hour. Make sure to bring good fitness - this is really exhausting, but so much fun!

Been surfing with this crew for the past few months and the progress has honestly been insane. Recently I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new — surfing! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but honestly found a little intimidating. I came across Surf Big Bay, and from my very first lesson, I knew I’d made the right choice. Kurt, the coach, is absolutely awesome — he’s got such a calm, friendly, and encouraging vibe. He’s super knowledgeable and really takes the time to explain everything clearly. Before even getting into the water, he went through essential safety tips and practical pop-up techniques, which made me feel so much more confident. After that first session, I was completely hooked! 🏄‍♀️ I’m so excited to keep improving and learning this incredible, fun skill with such an amazing coach and environment. My first surf lesson was so much fun! Kurt and his team of coaches made me feel super welcome and excited to get in the water. Although I am a beginner, he and the team were encouraging and helpful. I recently took lessons with coach Kurt! He has extensive knowledge about the beach and surfing, always giving clear instructions and a lot of support throughout the lessons! I wholeheartedly recommend Surf Big Bay as your first choice for learning to surf! Before today’s lesson, I had tried surfing a couple of times with friends, and it never went well. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d ever manage to stand up without a whole lot more trial and error. Kurt was our instructor, and right from the start, he made me feel at ease. He’s clearly experienced, and his calm, methodical approach to teaching really made a difference. His clear instructions and supportive attitude gave me the confidence I needed. Thanks to his guidance, I ended up standing up and riding quite a few waves—something I didn’t think would happen this soon! If you’re thinking of learning to surf, skip the guesswork and go with the pros. It’ll save you time, energy, and a ton of frustration. I brought my own wetsuit and just rented a board from them. The gear was top quality—clean, modern, and well looked after. Kurt and the Surf Big Bay team get a big thumbs-up from me!

AMAZING experience! Previously I tried surfing for 2 hours and couldn't even get up. With the help of the incredible gentle, nice and COOL coach, Kurt, I stood up and caught waves a few times!
