Great experience for this mum and 2 boys (11 and 13). Booked a package of 3 lessons and had a great time on each day. Surf instructors were very friendly and helped us all to get up (easier for some than others!). Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Safety issues - noticed my young kids in the water, alone, while the instructor was helping another instructor with an adult student. This happened more than once and made me very uncomfortable and instead of doing my own lesson with a different instructor ( we specifically asked for a separate instructor for our kids when we booked so the focus is 100% on them) I stayed close to my kids to make sure they were safe. Organisation - they operate out of a van so there are no change rooms, no showed and no lockers, your things stay in the van and you change in a parking lot. It might be ok in the summer but not very comfortable in the fall/winter. Instructors - not very friendly or helpful, I’ve taken lessons before in Spain and the experience was very very different.
Anna, first of all thank you for your feedback, all opinions are important for us. Just to remind you a few facts: 1. You booked 4 group surf classes. Normally (we inform about it in our website) there’s 1 surf instructor for each group of 4 people. In your case we offered an extra surf instructor (charge free) considering your kids are 8 and 12 years old and we wanted them to have best quality experience. You did not book a surf instructor or a private class for them - this is basically not true. 2. Before the class you asked us whether there are towels and changing rooms. We informed you there were no changing rooms and no towels, we explained we dress next to our van and you were fine with that. We are a mobile school, we focus on giving quality surf experience in the best surf spots in Cascais always depending on the conditions of the ocean (being mobile is essential for that reason). We don’t really understand receiving bad review for not having a physical spot (and what’s more - being clear about that). 3. We wish you could explain better what you mean with “not friendly or helpful” surf instructors. This year alone we received over a thousand customers and this is the first time hearing about our team not being friendly but well - there’s first time for everything. 4. Immediately after the class Jose (who is responsible for the logistics of our classes) asked your family how was their experience and both your husband and your kids assured us they loved it. 5. We also sent you a WhatsApp message asking your feedback after the class - unfortunately we never received your answer. Anna, one more time thank you for your opinion, we just wish you talked to us directly during or after the experience so we could improve whatever you were not happy with. At this point we can just keep doing our best and hope the ratio of our good vs. bad reviews will remain the same 😉 Papaya Team

I did 7 lessons with papaya surf camp and I had a great time! we start by warming up and some theoretical notions are explained, after which we enter the water and start surfing with the help of the instructors and when we get the hang of it, even independently if desired. the teachers, in addition to being very kind and friendly, are very professional and convey the passion for this beautiful sport. I highly recommend this camp! furthermore they also provide tourist information about the city and offer transport.

Had some great surfing lessons at the beautiful Guincho Beach. The entire Papaya Crew is super friendly and welcoming, you can tell right away everybody on board is passionate about surfing and dedicated to give you a good experience. I highly recommend going for this surfing school!
