Great family memories made

Jeremiah did a great job helping us see all types of wildlife including the beautiful bioluminescent plankton. This was our second Florida kayaking tour this summer. This was by far a much better experience than our other trip on the gulf side of the peninsula. Our family had a great time kayaking, though the alligator freaked the kids out… my husband and I loved it. Jeremiah was so good at sharing information about the wildlife and habitat. We were lucky to have a small private tour versus other very large groups that launched around the same time.

Great easy pace tour for family

Great tour with family of 4 (kids 13 and 8). Our guide Brian was great and very knowledgeable about the wildlife and the area. He gave my 8 year old a net (called a "critter getter") for her to catch jellies. We saw manatee, an alligator, racoon, bioluminescent jellies and lots of bird species. Very relaxing pace, no boat traffic. A very beautiful and peaceful area.

Great night!

Our guide Terence was awesome. We loved being out on the water at night. We brought bug spray but our guide had some for guests that didn’t. He took photos and shared them with us so we could leave our phones behind and trurly enjoy the moment.

Not a very good experience…

I booked a tour for my birthday to enjoy the sunset and see the bioluminescence. 1. At first, our tour was rescheduled an hour later. We were supposed to start the briefing at 6:30 pm but actually started at 7:30 pm. For the sunset that timing was fine, but we had driven three hours to get there, and it would have been very useful to know about the delay in advance, since we just wasted that hour sitting in a restaurant. 2. During the tour we were mostly paddling back and forth in circles. The location itself was not very interesting. 3. We found a few glowing jellyfish that we touched and noticed a slight glow. But there was nothing even close to the scale and brightness shown in your promotional videos. I was really disappointed. Later, we were supposedly waiting for dolphins at night — but we had already seen them ourselves during the day without the guide. What I noticed was that we were just floating around and basically “doing whatever,” while the guide was sitting under a sign, looking at his phone… After about 10 minutes of this pointless paddling, I asked to be taken back to shore, because I realized we weren’t going to see anything else. Yes, maybe the guide was right and the cloudy weather was the reason there was no bioluminescence. But if you already know that under such weather conditions nothing will be visible — then call your guests, reschedule the tour. You’ve been doing this for many years, yet you still leave people with such bad impressions.

We went out with Jeremiah. He was very helpful and informative. It was a perfect evening for kayaking to bird island and we were able to see the flamingos. Yes flamingos, not spoonbillls. Then after an awesome sunset and a little break on land we were in awe of the magnificent bioluminescent waters. We did also have manatees come near us and see other birds. Great tour I would highly recommend.

Great experience!

We did the sunset tour with Florida Adventurer. This is the second bioluminescence kayak tour we have done. The first time we did a night trip with a different company and this tour was so much better. Terrence and Matthew were our guides and they were fantastic. This tour was MUCH smaller than the one we did with the other company so it was much more personal and enjoyable. Terrence took pictures of everyone and sent them to us after the tour. Very nice thing to do! Also, since this was the sunset tour we saw much more wildlife: manatees, dolphins, alligators, and a raccoon foraging on the shore. And we saw the bioluminescence at the end and could see the fish swimming through the water. It was vey cool. We would definitely recommend Florida Adventurer if you are thinking about doing one of these kayak tours.

Nope. Don’t do it.

First, let me begin by saying my friend and I were SUPER excited about experiencing this. It is about an hour from Merritt Island on a wildlife preserve. It was easy to find and the hosts were fantastic. And the water did, in fact glow with the fungi that make this possible. However, I would never, ever EVER do this again unless I had on a full body hazmat, air conditioned suit. I wore leggings, a T-shirt and water shoes. As soon as I got out of the vehicle, I was swarmed with thousands of tiny, black, angry, mosquitoes. You literally FELT each bite that these demonic blood suckers did. They bit me THROUGH MY CLOTHES. you felt them land on you, bite you, and buzz in your ears. They bit every single part of my body. Hence, three days later I am still suffering with tremendous itch. Pain and an overall foul attitude because of this experience. And yes, for those wondering I did have plenty of mosquito repellent to no avail (others around us used DEET and were still getting bit) And no, I would not recommend this outing to any adult and ESPECIALLY children unless you want to put up with their incessant complaining about the ITCH. To end this horrifying ordeal, this brief description provided was all BEFORE we got in the kyack for 90 minutes where we continued to be tortured. I should have listened to my friend and immediately left the premises and drove the hour back home. Do. Not. Do. It.

You said you're a Florida resident? After reading this review, it sound alike you're not from anywhere near Florida. First the bioluminescence isn't a fungi, it is a plankton. The "fantastic hosts" explained this to you during your tour. 2nd, to come on to a site to leave a review for a place of business that you admitted the guides, service, etc was fantastic and leave us a 1 star review for mosquitoes, in FLORIDA, AS A FLORIDA RESIDENT is ridiculous. You should be ashamed of yourself. This company did nothing to revive a 1 star reviews due to bugs you had advanced knowledge of. You were asked to wear long-sleeved tops and shorts or pants, whatever your comfortable in. We advise you to bring bug spray etc.. Did you think this was for the animals to not be bit? How unbelievable selfish to leave a 1 star review for us. Had we provided a terrible experience that was echoed by other guests, I'd totally understand the 1 star, but mosquitoes? From a Floridan? Grow up! You should be ashamed a grown person wrote this review.

No refunds even if THEY cancel your tour!

Beware! Florida weather caused our tour to be canceled, safety first. This company will NOT refund your money. They have hundreds of dollars in a rain check for me. My family of 8 will likely never be in Florida again.

Operator response

Hello Shannon, We're sorry to hear that your tour was canceled due to bad weather. As you mentioned, safety comes 1st. Our weather cancelation policy can easily be found on our website and on Trip Advisor/Viator prior to making a reservation. While it is true that we do not refund for weather cancelations, we offer a raincheck that is literally good until you return, whether that is tomorrow, or 5 yrs from now, it is good until you return. Thisnis an industry wide weather policy for outdoor activities in Florida. We hope you are able to come back soon to take advantage of your raincheck.
