The Crane is one of the defining symbols of Gdansk and represents what little is left of the city's great trading age. Built in the mid-15th century as part of the biggest double-towered gate on the shoreline, it also served to install and remove ships' masts, and to load and unload heavy cargo from vessels docked at the quay. Incredibly, this human-powered device could hoist loads of up to 2000kg, making it the largest crane in medieval Europe.

Beautiful Gdansk by canoe
When you think of Gdansk, you think shipbuilding, heavy industry, urban decay. All that’s changed. The shipyards are being redeveloped and the factories cleaned up.
But Gdansk has also a beautiful old town with lots of lovely old buildings. Much of it is on the water as it was important Hanseatic port.
It’s lovely to walk around but for a different perspective, you can see it from the water. The tour leaves from the shipyards and goes into the heart of the old town. You paddle in a small group with a guide who shows landmarks and explains context. You go under the main bridges and around the islands.
Our tour was timed so that we finished with the sun setting over the shipyard cranes.
It was a very enjoyable trip and well worth doing in Gdansk.

Solar eclipse kayaking! Awesome!
What a fantastic way to spend a few hours in Gdansk! The instructors were very clear, good fun but knew a lot about the area.
We kayaked right into the city centre where we had been walking only a few hours before.
The pace was spot on, we had one complete beginner, and myself and 2 teenagers who had kayaked before but not in double kayaks.
We also finished at the perfect moment to see the solar eclipse at sunset.
Can't recommend highly enough!

Amazing Sunset Kayaking Tour
I would highly recommend booking the sunset kayaking tour in Gdansk. We were new to kayaking so a bit apprehensive beforehand. However, with the help of Mike, our friendly instructor, we soon got the hang of it.
The session was just the right length of time and Mike told us some interesting facts about the buildings along the way.

Gdansk sunset Kayak paddle tour
Great Kayak experience around Gdansk centre and sunset back at the Shipyard. Kayaks, paddles and spray decks all of a good quality. Mike, our guide was very professional and informative on some local history. Thanks for the free photos sent afterwards which was a nice bonus. Would definitely recommend.

Sunset Kayaking Fun
Great fun kayaking and we got good weather! Our guide gave some great facts about Gdansk and the sites we saw on the way. We also saw a seal swimming nearby which evidently is extremely rare!!! Seeing the sun setting with the cranes in the foreground was pretty cool too!!!

Best experience in Gdańsk! I would highly recommend it.
Szymon was incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, and informative throughout. I'd never been kayaking before, but he made us feel completely safe and at ease from the start.
