Begin your day with a sunrise hot air balloon safari over the beautiful Magalies River Valley, west of Hartbeespoort Dam. Operating since 1981, Bill Harrop’s “Original” Balloon Safaris combines 45 years of ballooning experience with warm South African hospitality from its private launch site near Skeerpoort. Enjoy hot drinks and biscuits while the balloons are prepared, followed by an approximately one-hour shared balloon flight. After landing, celebrate with sparkling wine and orange juice before returning to the Clubhouse Pavilion and Restaurant for a buffet breakfast. The entire experience takes approximately 3–4 hours. As every flight is determined by the wind and weather conditions on the day, no two balloon safaris are ever quite the same.

Arrive at our private launch site before sunrise for check-in and pre-flight hot drinks while the balloons are prepared. Following the safety briefing, enjoy an approximately one-hour shared hot air balloon flight over the Magalies River Valley. After landing, celebrate with sparkling wine and orange juice before returning to the Clubhouse Pavilion and Restaurant for a buffet breakfast. Please allow approximately 3–4 hours for the complete experience.

Important Information

- Please allow approximately 3–4 hours for the complete experience, including check-in, balloon preparation, the approximately one-hour flight, the post-flight celebration, the return transfer to the Clubhouse Pavilion and Restaurant, and breakfast.
- All flights are weather-dependent. The final decision to fly is made by the pilot based on the conditions on the day.
- Your confirmed check-in time will be provided with your booking confirmation. Arriving on time is essential, as balloon flights cannot be delayed for late passengers.
- Passengers must be physically fit enough to climb into and out of the balloon basket, which is approximately 1,350 mm high, without assistance. Passengers must also be able to jump approximately 60 cm from a seated position without assistance and remain standing for approximately one hour.
- Pregnant passengers may not participate.
- Adults (+18) only
- Please advise us of any dietary requirements before the flight. Vegetarian options and non-alcoholic sparkling wine are available. Halaal and Kosher catering cannot be provided.
- This is a shared, non-exclusive hot air balloon experience.
- The flight takes place over the Magalies River Valley and does not include game viewing.
- Animals are not permitted in company vehicles or balloons.

This was our first hot air balloon experience and it was fantastic. The crew at Bill Harrop’s look after you so well. When we arrived at 4.45am they were already set up with tea, coffee and homemade muffins. We sat on the porch and watched while the balloon was being set up. We boarded and set off (after safety instruction) ever so gently and cruised peacefully over the valley while the sun tried to peak out behind the clouds on the horizon. It was a thoroughly enjoyable ride and even the landing was just a couple of minor bumps thanks to the very experienced pilot Flip Steyn. Flip was great and filled us in on the history and local landmarks. Once we returned to the club house there was a magnificent breakfast waiting for us , the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the facilities are great, making this altogether a very memorable experience.

Wow! What an experience, from arriving early enough to see the balloon being inflated to take off and the flight across Skeerpoort. Not what I expected at all. A gentle glide across the sky, it was remarkable. Pilot - Flip Steyn was great, he gave us interesting facts about the history of ballooning, mixed with a great sense of humour. The venue is beautiful and the breakfast was brilliant. Definitely something to put on your buck list.
