Location mix up and international phones down

We were told 930am to meet. We were outside at cruise terminal in Stockholm prior and waited. No one arrived. We asked multiple people if they knew where JAT ( sign to look for) where they usually go. Everyone said never heard of them. We moved to another spot where we saw other tour operators and no luck. Unfortunately, the international phone system went down so we were no longer able to communicate with anyone from Viator. At this point we were in port for only 1 day so we got tickets for hop on/ off bus and started on our own( another expense we had to do on top of what we paid for the tour) When we made it to Vasa museum, we asked again if anyone heard of them ect and no one did. We did find out that the museum offered free internet in which we could finally message Viator. Our person was able to meet us at the museum and we could at least get part of our tour in. The only thing was by this time it was 1130am so we lost 2 hrs of the tour that we couldn't get back. I guess the other person they were getting was late or something so that made them not be at our cruise port when we were told and then with the international lines went down we didn't know what was going on. I dont think it was explained well where to meet as the msg I received stated things that weren't there at the port. So they should have just said they will be right outside cruise ship...what they said had us after we didnt see them was going down further to an outside terminal area. From messages they ( tour operator) was late and not there at 930 to 945. It was like 1010am when the msg said they were there. It just was miscommunication but sad we paid so much for this tour and lost over 2 hrs. Our tour guy Nikklas was great so that was a plus , it was just short . I would book again with Viator as they were great with transfers we used them for . Guess when international internet and calling system goes down there isnt much you can do. I would also request a detailed place to meet...example right as soon as you get off cruise ship....not go through customs, through terminal building ( there wasn't one where we were but down the block was a terminal building) it confuses people that have never been there , especially when you ask security and other tour operators and they all say they never heard of JAT . We also had on our paper they listed a different port so we also thought that they were at another port than where we were. Just confusion all the way around.

Operator response

To avoid any frustration with pickup on future Viator bookings, we strongly recommend simply reading and following the clear pickup instructions, which advised you to be outside the cruise terminal by 9:30 a.m., just as all your fellow cruise passengers booked with us did. To be completely honest, searching for you while your phone was out of service and eventually finding you not in the port but !!! in the city !!! was possible only because of the professionalism and experience of our guide and driver. During their long careers, they have managed to locate the most gifted traveling individuals all over the port and the city That is understandable, especially for first-time cruisers. However, after going the extra mile to find you and ensure you joined the tour, we expected a better rating than three stars. In similar situations in the future, we will reconsider and have to report such cased as a no-show. Anyway as the English saying goes: “What goes around comes around.” Safe and happy travels

Great tour. Katerina explained everything so well. We visited the Vasa museum which was amazing. Also interests in the old town ( and we had free time there ) It’s easy to walk back to the ship if you want more time to look around.
