Arriving to the 17hundred90 inn for the tour, more people than we expected were awaiting our guide - we expected the tour to be about 10-15 people and more than 30 were waiting. Our guide - whose name we don’t know because he was not overly engaging with the group and continued to pull from his vape as we walked along - provided abbreviated stories that weren’t that interesting, spooky, or historical. We were expecting a fun and historical bar crawl going into old pubs and hearing historically grounded stories that have ghostly stories from today. Instead we had a disheveled guide that took us to modern party bars. If looking for drunken revelry and some corny stories - would recommend. If looking for something more authentic and quality - do not.
Yes you would likely prefer one of the less popular tours with a script and a seasonal worker from Sarasota; we think that a haunted bar crawl should be FUN! We've won best pub crawl three years in a row precisely because people know this is the one where they can let loose, have fun, and even socialize between ghost tales and Dad jokes. We encourage you to vape and drink on the streets of Savannah, indulge your favorite party favors, and even have a good, social time! BTW, the guide's name was Captain Stoner Joe, one of only three tour guides in the city who actually grew up Savannah. He's been getting mostly 5 star reviews in Savannah for over 20 years and trained the founder of this company as well as literally hundreds of both shuttle and walking tour guides in our fair city! If you find a pub crawl in Savannah on Friday night with less than 30 people, it's almost certainly a new tour that's struggling to attract customers. But good luck!
I thought Rick was very knowledgeable. Would have loved it if it was a bit more spooky! The roof top bar and the last stop on the waterfront I felt did not really fit the tour.

Rick was a great guide. Had a small group and was not rushed. Rick knew so much about the history of the area and was very informative and made it fun..spooky too. We went to bars I would not have thought we would go to so that was different. Good amount of time to have beverages and enjoy the scene while Rick provides fun commentary at each bar. I especially enjoyed the speakeasy type bar at the end...a hidden gem for sure. Thanks again for a fun tour.

The guide was very disheveled and during the whole experience, he was puffing on a vape pen and blowing it everywhere. He kept on messing upall the stories and just was not well prepared. We actually left early.
We noticed you weren't really into it. At Spooky Savannah we prefer personality over memorized and monotoned scripts like you get on the corporate tours, and Hoodoo Joe has become quite the celebrity with his quirky character act. We're sorry you don't agree with the masses. The other 28 people on the tour were bachelorettes and therefore into having a good time. They all actually stayed an hour after the tour to hang out, dance, and hear more stories. If you're reading this, please check out the rave reviews they left for the same tour. It seemed to me a ghost tour would be more up your alley than the pub crawl known for maximum fun, that was voted Best Pub Crawl In Savannah these past 3 years in a row. We can't slow the fun down for those who like a slower pace, scripted stories, and no interruptions...especially when we have three bachelorette groups aboard. They only get to do this once in their lives (hopefully)! On pub crawls, people vape and drink and some even smoke between stops. This is clearly written in our description. When between stories walking in the open air, vaping is permitted in the streets of Savannah. There are scripted tours that move at a turtle's pace and go to nothing but the quietest venues, but it's not Spooky Savannah. As you can read in our description, we are known for both the spooky and for the ultimate in Savannah nightlife fun!
Its been 15 years since my last Savannah ghost tour, which I remember being absolutely amazing. Unfortunately this one did not live up to my expectations. The stories were fun and our guide did tell them well, but he was very disorganized at the beginning, seeming unsure of where we were meeting or how to check people in. He spent a lot of time looking for photos to show us on his phone, rather than having them ready to go. The group we were with was huge and we kept getting stuck separated at crosswalks which detracted from the tour experience as well.

We had the BEST time on our ghost pub crawl thanks to Penny Dreadful! She was incredibly knowledgeable with what felt like endless stories, but what really set her apart was how fun and engaging she made the entire experience. She kept the group laughing, entertained and fully immersed all night long. Fair warning if you’re not into cursing or dark humor, she may not be your style but for us, she was absolutely perfect.
