This humble red-brick house was once home to Nelson Mandela, and today it stands as a powerful museum that tells the story of his life, struggle, and triumph. Explore intimate exhibits, personal artifacts, and historical photographs that bring to life Mandela’s journey from revolutionary to president. Walk the same floors he did, and feel the spirit of resilience and hope that continues to inspire the world.

Explore FNB Stadium – Africa’s Iconic Sporting & Cultural Landmark Discover the grandeur of FNB Stadium, also known as Soccer City, Africa’s largest and most iconic stadium. Located just outside Johannesburg in Nasrec, this world-class venue famously hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening and final matches, and continues to be the heart of South Africa’s biggest sporting and entertainment events. With its calabash-inspired design reflecting African heritage, the stadium seats over 94,000 people and has hosted everything from thrilling football derbies to legendary concerts by artists like Beyoncé and U2. It was also the venue for Nelson Mandela’s first major speech in Johannesburg after his release, and his memorial service in 2013.

30 min

Visit the Soweto Cooling Towers – Icons of Urban Art and Adventure Experience one of Johannesburg’s most striking landmarks with a visit to the Soweto Cooling Towers – twin structures that have transformed from industrial relics into bold symbols of South African culture, creativity, and thrill-seeking fun. Once part of a decommissioned power station, the towers are now a canvas for vibrant murals reflecting the rich history and spirit of Soweto. Towering over the skyline, they offer adrenaline-pumping activities like bungee jumping, paintball, and tower climbing – all set against a backdrop of colorful street art and township energy.

Admission included60 min

Hector Pieterson Museum – A Tribute to Courage and Change Step into a powerful chapter of South African history at the Hector Pieterson Museum, located in the heart of Soweto. This deeply moving museum honors the memory of Hector Pieterson, a 13-year-old student who became a symbol of the 1976 Soweto Uprising—an event that helped ignite the global fight against apartheid. Through impactful exhibits, photographs, video footage, and first-hand accounts, the museum tells the story of the students who bravely protested against the imposition of Afrikaans in schools—and how their actions reshaped the nation’s path to freedom.

Super!

Nice experience to explore with the tuk tuk Soweto. Our guide could tell us a lot about the history and current situation of Soweto and its inhabitants. The children also enjoyed the experience and enthusiasm of our guide

Insightful and fun day out in Soweto

Had a great day out biking around Soweto with tour guide Lebo, the driver, Murendeni for my transfer also had plenty of interesting facts and stories to share. There's so much to see and with the half day it's still so limited but definitely glad I did the bike tour as you can see a few different neighborhoods. Be ready to ride on some hills but overall it was not too strenuous and they do tailor it to what works for each group. Recommend adding this to your Jo'burg itinerary, it's great knowing that you have guides who are actually from Soweto and really know the area and the history well.

The coolest way to explore the city

Such a cool way to explore the city! The views were spectacular and our guide was very well informed. My favourite part was exploring the hidden gems of the city.

Absolutely fantastic experience

What an exceptional experience !!! Can’t remember when last we had such fun. The scooters were phenomenal - we now all want one. Amazing how much ground we covered, and how much we saw. Tye was amazing with his organisation and logistics ; and our guide was just superb. Intelligent, well informed, interesting, fun ; and he handled our 2 crazy boys so well. Can thoroughly recommend the scooter tours. I can’t wait to go back and do it again… or to go to one of the live music venues we stopped at in Maboneng for dinner. A very positive experience and adventure. So lovely to see JHB from a different perspective. And very professionally run.

E-scooter experience

All I can say is fun was had. We thought it would be hard to learn to ride the e scooters but to our surprise it was fairly easy. Also Ivan our tour guide was a great instructor.

Pleasant

My encounter was wonderful. I was fortunate to meet Tye, who was very polite, professional, and a native of Johannesburg. You actually learn more about Johannesburg's history while having a great time. However, I would caution any female solo travelers to be wary of Ivan, the tour guide. He traveled with Tye to host the event, and when I saw him a week later, he treated me with a great deal of contempt, rudeness, and disrespect. When Tye was around, he was kind, so I didn't understand why he was treating me as such, but after the working hours, I felt incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe. I'm hoping the Honest Travel Experience can help with that issue. It's not nice to have a worker who feels frightened by women, or whatever the case may be, because he doesn't even know me. Because of him, I had an extremely traumatic experience, but I put that to an immediate stop. In the end, it was enjoyable, and I gained a lot from it. I appreciate Tye and the rest of the Honest Travel Experience staff's cheers.

Fun

Me and my friend had a fab few hours zipping around on an e scooter. Up close and personal in the city centre. Really easy to ride felt very safe hands with our guide Tye. Would really recommend this. It started and finished at Victoria Yards another great place to hang around for a few hours shopping eating and drinking.

Finding some hidden corners

A very nice tour, covered parts of Joburg we would have missed otherwise, such as a very unique art gallery or a community gardening project. The guide was well-informed, had many interesting things to tell and answered our questions very nicely. One should just keep in mind that riding an e-scooter requires a bit of attention for the traffic, so if you are the type of person to just sit back and be driven around, this is probably not the best mode of transport. However, as we enjoy being within the city instead of watching everything through a bus window, it was a lot of fun.
