Long and informative exciting trip

Our glacier and South Coast tour of Iceland was an unforgettable experience, packed with stunning scenery, exhilarating and interesting activities, and memorable moments from start to finish. The tour guide, Albert, was informative and comedic. The driver was also very good as he drives safely. It started off on a good note when the van that picked us up from the bus stop came on time, and the transfers were smooth, directly leading us to the bus. From there we went to a glacier from the period of the ice age. The glacier tour in the boat was breathtaking, and we even had the chance to witness icebergs (and even possibly saw fish that got trapped in the ice) and hold small chunks of ice that fell off the glacier/ iceberg’s. Additionally, the food stops were very good and had reasonable prices with lots of different options ( veg & non veg ). Also, the crowd size in all the destinations were minimal and enjoyable as we didn’t stand in line for an hour for food, admission tickets, etc. Furthermore, the journey was as beautiful as the destination itself, we witnessed lava fields, encountered live animals (sheep, horse, birds, ) and plain green land with lakes and mountains. Finally, the waterfalls at the end acted as the cherry on top, being able to go right next to the waterfall and in another one go behind it ( short ten minute walk from one another ) . However, one thing that could be improved is having more time at the diamond beach as we had very limited time (15min for diamond beach). Best for family with kids as they get to play around in the waterfalls (splash warning ‼️).

Long day but worth it if you don’t want to drive

Recommend springing for the memorable boat ride at Diamond Beach. There were seals lazing on icebergs. You get a better view of layers of snow and ash in large calved pieces of the glacier and of various colors of smaller melting pieces. Guide relayed local lore, explained geologic features and historical impact of eruptions. You will have time to nap if you choose but so much to see and hear if you are into these subjects! You can’t do all the amazing things in this itinerary with a cruise ship tour or in a single day by car. We went 470 miles (not km) roundtrip. The guide mis-managed some of our time with a pointless ice cream stop just before dinner such that we had to rush to find food at dinner (so make use of good food trucks at lunch at DB). There was also a (civil) dispute w/the driver about his road hours which caused us a bit of stress about missing the falls at the end of itinerary-we didn’t and they were awesome. We all met in AM at bus station near our lodging so were unaware that all the many hotel stops at end would be before final bus station stop when we were already tired.
