“A truly fun and exciting experience — full of laughter, warmth, and unforgettable aurora memories!”
My sister and I visited Rovaniemi, Finland, for only two days, so we joined two activities with Nordic Unique Travels: Snowmobile Photography Trip to Hunt the Auroras and Hunting Northern Lights with Lappish Barbecue.
Originally, the Snowmobile trip was canceled due to weather conditions, but thanks to the patience and professionalism of Pimu, the activities were rescheduled and swapped between the two days. During the Barbecue trip, we met our cheerful and lively guide Musti, whom we nicknamed “Princess.” On the way back, when our car got stuck in the snow, a “Prince Charming” appeared to help shovel us out—making the evening even more funny.
On the Snowmobile trip, we were guided by Joey, who is also from Taiwan. Thanks to him, my sister and I were able to capture many beautiful photos with the aurora, creating unforgettable memories.
I am deeply grateful to the Nordic Unique Travels team. They understood how much I wished to see the aurora and made sure I did not leave empty‑handed. Their excellent service gave me one of the most wonderful experiences of my life.
If you are considering a trip to Finland, especially Rovaniemi, and are unsure about which activities to book or concerned about service quality, I strongly recommend Nordic Unique Travels. Based on my years of traveling in Europe and my personal experience, I confidently give them a 5‑star rating.

Chaos!
As far as our snowmobile tour for chasing auroras is concerned : First of all and most importantly: this is definitely NOT a northern lights chasing tour. We were just following a snowmobile path next to santa claus village which is definitely not a good place to see the aurora because of all the light pollution and the village’s headlights in the sky. This is definitely a false title to lure more customers into this tour and none of the guides even tried to explain how the aurora works or how we would be able to see the northern lights, so it was definitely a scam. Second of all, the tour got so delayed, we were 2,5 hours out of schedule. When we were changing into our overalls, which almost every company there provides in order to keep you even warmer, they said we were obligated to take off OUR OWN fleece jackets that we were wearing underneath our coats to keep us extra warm and if we didn’t take them off we would have to pay a 15€ fee. To wear OWR OWN fleece layers underneath. Of course we were very cold since it was already dark outside and we were on the snowmobiles. No other company we trusted ever did anything like that. Overall all the guides were very unorganized, we were in a tour with NEARLY 100 people and everything was a total chaos. To top it all off, this was supposed to be an “photography session tour” and they were asking all 100 of us to leave our emails for them to send the pictures to us. Of course, we never received any pictures. We were so sad we lost so much money on this horrible tour, please don't waste your money on them and choose other smaller companies which provide a much much better experience and comfort!

Operator response
Dear Alex,
Thank you for your detailed feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.
We would like to clarify that the location where the tour took place is indeed a place where the Northern Lights can be observed. However, as you may know, the Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon that depends on various weather and solar conditions, which are outside of our control. Our guides always provide detailed information and explanations about how the Aurora works and the conditions that need to be met to see it, and we regret that this was not sufficient in your case.
Regarding the overalls, we recommend using our provided overalls, to ensure maximum warmth during the tour. Our policy of leaving larger personal jackets in the office helps to maintain comfort and safety while wearing the provided gear. We’re sorry if this was an inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding.
We were also surprised to hear that you didn’t receive your photos. Typically, these are sent out a few days after the tour. We suggest checking your spam folder, as sometimes emails can end up there. If you still haven’t received them, please don’t hesitate to contact us, and we will happily resend them to you.
Once again, we apologize for the disappointing experience, and we appreciate your feedback, which helps us improve our services. We hope you’ll consider joining us again in the future for a more enjoyable experience.
Best regards,
A

Northern Lights photography tour - expect a late night and you won't be disappointed.
We were very fortunate to have witnessed the Northern Lights and got some amazing photos. We did have some excellent ones taken by the guide but are still waiting on the link (it is the weekend, though). By the time we left, it was pushing midnight, so the thought of stopping for a late BBQ didn't fill us with joy - it was great, and we're utterly happy we did it, however.
I am always amazed how much people like to complain. One person had their photo taken by the photographer with the Nirthern Lights onna frozen lake, then spent the next hour complaining they had to wait for everyone else to go through.

Tours usually less than originally offered
Very nice guide. However, the tour was 1 1/2 hours shorter than originally stated... The BBQ was a sausage and marshmallow...not the world. We have booked several tours with Nordic Unique Travel and most of them are certainly cheaper or you can do some things better yourself (e.g. Santa Claus Village)

Wonderful experience
A unique experience. When I booked I wasn't sure if they would send me a guide in Spanish, since to ensure it they asked me to pay an extra fee. To my surprise, the guide was, and the excursion, being during the off-peak season, was just for us. Jordi, our guide, was super attentive to us, especially with the girls, he told us curiosities about Rovaniemi, the local fauna and the auroras. And although the aurora was slightly visible, we loved the snowmobile experience. Thank you so much!! We will definitely recommend this company, and if we return we will repeat with them.

Not so good at all
The activity was supposed to be 4 hours but at the end it was only 2 hours. The barbecue was only 1 saussage and 2 marshmallows. And no Nordic lights.
