Fantastic experience! Our guide Marco, a biologist, was very knowledgable and passionate. He takes his time to give explanations and look for the animals. He did not only let us see all nature has to offer here, but also taste!
Excellent activities, with good guides, experts who share all their knowledge with enthusiasm. They have made us enjoy an unforgettable experience. Thanks to Jorge and Marco, they are excellent.
An unforgettable experience. Thank you for sharing so much information, tastes, and flavors. We were lucky enough to take the tour with Marco, and all the knowledge he conveys to you is overwhelming. I will definitely repeat.
We took this tour after spending two weeks in Costa Rica. Consequently, I believe, we can compare its quality reliably with other activities organized in this area. And I have to say that we were rather disappointed by this tour. Do not take me wrong - the nature in Tortuguero is amazing and I our guide managed to find many different animals there. But we did not like the way, how this trip was organized: The quide had always located some animal, usually quite far away, pointed his flashlight on it, we were looking for a few minutes while he described its life, and we moved on... This is in a stark contrast with the way how these trips are organized in Monteverde and/or by other tour providers in Tortuguero: They a have a high-quality monocular telescope on a tripod, usually equiped with a smartphone. After finding an animal, they point the telescope to it, take the picture on the smartphone and, finally, everybody from the group can see it by himself/herself. (And after the the tour they usually send you the taken photos, free of carge.) So, this makes all the difference... Consequently, despite the fact that the Tuanis Tour is one of a few companies availeble online, I would strongly suggest you to book this tour AFTER the arrival to Tortuguero in a company that provides a tour with the telescope. And it should not be that difficult to find such a tour, as about half of the other groups, which we met in Tortuguero were equiped with tripods and telescopes...
Thank you for sharing such an honest and detailed review with us. We truly appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your experience. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed Tortuguero’s incredible wildlife and that our guide was able to find many different species of animals. However, we are sorry that the way the animals were presented did not meet your expectations. We understand your comparison with other tours that use telescopes and smartphones, and we greatly appreciate the suggestion. Being able to clearly observe an animal through a telescope can certainly make a big difference, especially when the animal is some distance away. We take your comments very seriously and will share them with our team as we continue working to improve our tours. We truly appreciate your constructive feedback and hope that, despite the aspects that did not meet your expectations, you will still have fond memories of Tortuguero.
Despite a warm and dry night that made it difficult to spot a lot of animals, Our great guide Marco made it worth. Insightful and fun, it was worth every minute of it
It was truly amazing. Great service and good company. Luis is a great and knowledgeable guide. Take time for you and explains everything. I definitely recommend!!!
Luis was a super motivated and interested guide. He really gave us the freedom to explore the environment ourselves and knew a lot about the flora and fauna we encountered - including interesting fun facts such as symbiotic relationships between those organisms. :D However, he also spotted a lot of different species and shared interesting info on them. The group was small, so that he could address everyone's findings. We saw many animals from a porcupine to a two-toed sloth, different basiliks and many smaller animals. The tour showed us how much biodiversity can be found if you just look left and right on a normal trail. Luis was very positive and motiviated which gave us the feeling that he is also very enthusiastic about what he does. Truely recommendable! :)
The tour was in the general area of Tortuguero town. The meeting place is in Tortuguero town itself. Be sure if you are staying at outside of town, you have transportation to town. The tour doesn’t pick up at hotels. At water taxi is available for a fee.
We went with Warren, an expert with whom we saw all kinds of nocturnal fauna: two-toed sloths, tree frogs, armadillos and many more. It was a wonderful experience and a highly recommended activity to know the nature of Tortuguero.
Put on long trousers and depending on the weather take an umbrella with you. Binoculars aren't necessary.
