Much more tranquil and less crowded than Badaling Great Wall, Jinshanling is both magnificent and tranquil. Get away from the crowds when you enjoy the tranquility at Jinshanling Great Wall. Observe the natural beauty of the landscape and the architectural marvels of the 13th century's Great Wall during your trip, which takes approximately three hours to complete, including round-trip transportation from Beijing, entrance fees.
Unguided self-hiking will enable you to have all the time by yourself.
Not obliged to catch up with a big tour group or being forced to enter some shops.

Pick-up from exit C of subway station Dong Zhi Men of Line 2.
Morning tour pick-up time: 08:00 a.m., return to the city at around 17:00-17:30;
Sunset tour pick-up time: 11:00-13:30; return to the city at around 20:00-21:30 (in different seasons)
After th pick-up, you'd head for Jinshanling Great Wall directly. It takes about 2-2.5 hours to get there.
Main gate entrance ticket is included in the tour. Your driver will explain to you where to start hiking and where to end and meet again.
You'll have 3 hours staying on the Great Wall, please make sure to bring some food and drink and you can eat on the Great Wall when you take a break.
The SUNSET tour ends after the sunset.
Usually the hike starts from EAST FIVE WINDOW TOWER and ends at BRICK CRENEL, hiking for about 6km. The hiking is a little bit strenuous, but not extremely difficult. Usually it costs around 3 hours.
The tour ends at middle gate in both options.

The wall is spectacular, 5.5hrs on the bus is not
The walk was great. Quiet and peaceful along the first section of the wall. The walk itself is very steep in places with a lot of steps. Youve got heaps of time so you don't really need to be that fit, but If you've got bad knees be prepared for a bit of pain.
The bus ride is pretty unpleasant. Small minibus. built for people who are about 5ft tall. Took 3 hours to get there and about 2.5 back.
We were unlucky in that some selfish European tourist decided to bring their hacking COVID plague cough on the bus. No mask. Coughed all the way there and back. Probably made everyone on the bus sick.
In hindsight would get a private taxi. More expensive but much less likely to get the plague.

Great
Amazing to hike the great wall, if you aren’t fit or able to hike then i definetly wouldn’t do this, but it was great and the tour guide on the bus was nice

Breathtakingly beautiful and unmissable... If fit!
Genuinely breathtaking. Despite visiting on a weekend I found the Jinshanling section to be very quiet with beautiful scenery. I had plenty of sections to myself. No cable cars or big tour groups, the extra travel time from Beijing relative to nearer sections is definitely worth it. You do need a decent degree of fitness/leg strength. I counted 1220 steps from car park up to wall and then the 6km hike is very up and down with quite some scrambling. In 30 degree heat expect to consume at least 1.5l of water though water is for sale at some of the towers. Genuinely one of the most special places I have ever been in the world.

Amazing experience!
The whole experience was amazing!! The pick-up was easy and perfeclty on time. Jackie was so knowledgeable, kind and helpful.
This section of the wall is absolutely gorgeous but not easy on the knees as there is a lot of ups and downs. It was very quiet as well which is amazing!

Best way to see the great wall (if you dont mind hiking)
Great way to see the great wall. You get to walk in your own (very relaxed) pace and explore, and see both restored an unrestored sections, with great views of the wall and the surrounding mountains in the beautiful afternoon light, without too many other people. Its far from Beijing but worth it in my opinion. Some sections are steep with missing stones. A lot of people gather for the sunset so that part is not the most calm, but still great. Good guide who ensured that everything worked out, and otherwise let people go on their own just as advertised.

10/10 experience
It was AWESOME, have not seen other parts of the wall but I definitely feel like I made the right decision. I had originally booked the normal day tour, which got canceled because of a thunderstorm and the wall was closed. But Jackie reached out via WeChat (was easier than via TripAdvisor, he mentioned during the tour that what's app would have been possible as well, but I cannot confirm for myself). Anyways we rescheduled to a day later to the sunset tour and it was gorgeous. Definitely recommend. Everything worked super smooth: pick up at the start and end of the tour and the guide made extra sure that no one got lost. He gave a few Infos on the wall and the tour but walking was on our own, so we could enjoy the view at our own pace (we walked at a chill pace, stopped several times and were still an hour too early at the sunset spot in the end). You should be fine walking uneven terrain but it is worth it. Go try it out!

Great Day Out
This tour went very well for us. We were contacted the day before to organise the pickup for the next morning. Pickup was an easy location to find, all straightforward and well organised.
The actual tour also went well, with an amazing 6km walk on the Great Wall. Something we've wanted to do for many years. It's an incredible place and well worth visiting.
Dropped off again at the end of the day in the same pickup location.
Would fully recommend this tour for those who want to see a long stretch of the wall, and also avoid the crowds at the wall locations that are closer to the city.

Incredible experience!
It has been an incredible experience. We were able to enjoy the entire route along the wall, practically without crossing paths with anyone. Ending by watching the sunset was the perfect finishing touch.
I thought it would be impossible to visit the wall like this…it has been a dream come true 🫶
