It is recorded as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1997 for having its beautiful appearance of that time. The palace grounds are comprised of a public palace area, a royal family residence building, and the rear garden. - On Mondays, Changdeokgung Palace is closed, so we will visit Bukchon Hanok Village instead.

Soongryemun (Namdaemun) is a main gate of former Seoul fortress in Joseon dynasty. It is commonly called as Namdaemun. The gate was built in 1396, in King Taejo's reign. And it was reconstructed in 1447 by king Sejong and in 1479 by king Seongjong. In 2006 the Seoul city opened the passage to the gate to public. The gate is now listed as Korea's national treasure #1. But in February 10th 2008, the gate was all burnt away by arsonist and the wooden gate was all burnt away by that accident. Great First Day in Seoul

Sookhee was a phenomenal guide. I have been on lots of tours, and I was thoroughly impressed by Sookhee’s historical knowledge. She is so engaging and passionate and was able to answer every question I had. The pacing of the day was great, and I enjoyed learning through Sookhee’s many stories. My partner and I got lucky and ended up being the only two people on the tour, so we were able to make some choices about our tour stops. This was a great way to spend our first day in Seoul!

Must do for first time in Seoul.

Definitely a must do but super long day when it's 100 degrees and feels like 108. :-) Guide was awesome and did a great job of keeping the 7 of us together. I could have done without the second palace as the day is long and nothing truly unique about it, other than the history. If you read up on history prior to tour, it might land better. Unfortunately for me it was "see one palace, see them both". Temple was great but felt a little intrusive to the folks who are actually there to worship. The ginseng tour was informative and cool but really just a super hard sales pitch to get you to buy ginseng products. I think it's a great part of the tour but when they take you into a room full of products, close the door and have three people there getting paid when you buy something, it's pretty uncomfortable.
