As our home base, Fairbanks is one of the best locations in the world for Northern Lights viewing — located directly under the Aurora Oval. Each night, our SkyChase™ tour departs from Fairbanks and uses the Lights-for-Life™ Formula to determine the optimal location outside the city for clear skies and strong activity.
Murphy Dome is one of the highest accessible points in the Fairbanks area and occasionally used on clear-sky nights for its panoramic views and low light pollution. It’s a prime example of the remote high-elevation locations our team accesses while chasing the Aurora.
While not our final destination, North Pole, Alaska is located along our route and adds charm to the adventure. Guests love passing Santa Claus House and seeing this quirky, festive town en route to darker skies.
Chena Hot Springs region is often considered when skies to the east are favorable. These peaceful, forested areas offer a quiet backdrop for Northern Lights viewing with excellent visibility when cloud trends push us in that direction.
c, northeast of Fairbanks, is one of the elevated points we use on select Aurora nights. When conditions are right, it offers excellent visibility and sweeping skies, especially during high activity nights.
While not a nightly destination, Denali National Park is visible on rare clear-sky nights from certain elevated viewpoints. Guests occasionally glimpse the Alaska Range from afar, especially during strong Aurora activity. This region highlights the vast scope of Alaska’s night sky and our commitment to chasing the most breathtaking views whenever possible.
This historical stop marks the first major gold discovery in Alaska and is located along one of the routes we sometimes take while chasing clear skies. Though we typically pass by, it showcases our access to remote, scenic locations far from city lights. It’s a meaningful part of the Alaskan landscape and history.
The Chena area is one of many regions we travel toward when skies are favorable. It offers forested backdrops, river reflections, and lower light pollution — making it a frequent route on strong Aurora nights. This region represents one of many weather-based destination options included in our flexible SkyChase™ route strategy.
One of many high-elevation stops that we utilize on clear-sky nights for its vast visibility and iconic Alaska scenery. Our flexible route often includes this point or others nearby when it offers cloud-free conditions and great Aurora potential. We use dozens of pre-approved locations in all directions based on real-time sky data.
The Two Rivers and Pleasant Valley region is often considered when skies to the east are favorable. These peaceful, forested areas offer a quiet backdrop for Northern Lights viewing with excellent visibility when cloud trends push us in that direction.
Ester Dome is a frequent direction for clear-sky nights. Its elevation, low light pollution, and distance from city glow make it a strong candidate in our flexible SkyChase™ route system.
On nights with clearing trends to the west, we may head toward the Nenana Hills region, exploring lesser-known sites that deliver expansive skies and beautiful terrain far from city lights.

I could not see the lights, it was cloudy. We knew it was going to be a hit or miss. The guides were fantastic. They tried everything they could to find a pocket opening up. The experience was really nice. I got to mingle around the fire and meet different people, have delicious Alaska coffee and hot chocolate.
Andre and Zeke helped us with a lifetime dream of seeing the northern lights which coincided with our 55th wedding anniversary! It was amazing! They took really good care of us! We enjoyed ourselves! Thank you Andre and Zeke!
We had the most magical night with great visibility and colors. The tour members were so fine and friendly. We had fire pits and chairs around it with hot beverages and good rain deer sausages. The best experience ever.
This excursion was worth every penny. The weather was not great on the day of our planned outing and early afternoon we received a text from Aurora telling us we had the option of canceling for a full refund or we could ride along with them and take a chance. We went and boy am I glad! Our guide Andrew pick us up at our hotel in a brand new Mercedes van promptly at 9:00. We received a text when he arrived. There were 7 of us in the van - Andrew, his assistant up frontal, a couple and their adult daughter in middle row and me and my friend in the back row. The van was very clean and comfortable. We drove to North Pole AK and met another van which we followed. We got out to take pictures of the Christmas store while we waited which was all decorated up for Christmas. We started driving and Andrew narrated while we rode. He’s an amazing source of AK info. We stopped a few times and they checked for the Northern Lights with their equipment but no luck so we moved on. Stopped at a gas station for bathroom. It was very clean. The guides were determined we would find the lights. Eventually we pulled into a state park by a lake and they found them! It was AMAZING!! Worth the drive for sure. They set up their camera equipment and took lots of pictures with each person in front of the lights. They’d move the camera if a better view came up. We could see the light movement and pillars of light so well. The colors were harder to see with naked eye but looked amazing through their camera. The guides helped people set their camera settings so they could capture the lights. They set up a bonfire and set out chairs, coffee, hot tea , hot chocolate, marshmallows and reindeer hot dogs (they were yummy!) to roast. So fun! The guides smelled a moose and were very proactive about looking for it to make sure we were safe. It had wandered down to the lake. They packed us up and drove back. In all we drove 3.5 hours out of Fairbanks to get to see the lights. It was a late night as they dropped us back at hotel at 5:30am. We received a text a few days later with link to all the pictures. One thing… their phone number is answered by a machine and you would get a text later. This made communication a little slow.
Do not miss this experience! By far, this was amazing. This company will find the best places to view the Northern Lights. They also have a very nice trailer, and they serve hot drinks. It also has an area to warm up. The stars were incredible. We could see the Milky Way and so many constellations. The Northern Lights were spectacular, and we even saw a small meteorite fall. My friend and I were so glad we took this tour.
What an amazing experience!! We almost missed them, but Tony and Andrew found a break in the clouds and we were in!! Spectacular northern lights dancing in the sky! This completed our Alaska adventure!!
Andrew and his assistant are very knowledgeable. They went out of their way to show us some moose on the road. Even when the probability to see the boriales was low, Andrew did the impossible until he found a spot to see them. Even as the van had a tire that was losing air Andrew was up front with it and managed the situation perfectly. We never felt nervous or in danger with this situation. This was a great experience. I will recommend everyone to do this tour. They are great people, knowledgeable, honest and upfront with everything. I can’t wait to receive the photos that were taken. Thank you to the whole team for all the updates and the experience! You are the best!
Because of the weather the trip is canceled i am waiting for the full refund promised I haven’t heard back from the operator
We had an absolutely incredible experience with Sky Chase, thanks to Tony and Andrew. They worked unbelievably hard all night long, driving us for hours and making stop after stop, constantly searching for that perfect opening in the sky. What made the experience even more special was getting to know them along the way. They shared fascinating stories about their lives, growing up and living in Alaska and their experiences over the many years they’ve called Alaska home. They aliso went above and beyond to make us a true Alaskan experience, they treated us with hot chocolate, spiced hot apple cider and even reindeer hot dogs! The weather wasn’t cooperating, we were getting more and more discouraged as the hours passed. But Tony and Andrew simply would not give up. They kept checking the equipment, moving around and searching for an opening in the clouds. Finally around 3:30am they found a brake in the clouds- and there it was: the Aurora Borealis❤️❤️❤️❤️ That was absolutely magical! Thank you Tony and Andrew for your incredible dedication, patience and for working so hard to make our night unforgettable! If you’re considering an aurora tour in Alaska, we highly recommend Sky Chase and specially Tony and Andrew ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
