Great place for an introduction to Galapagos nature

I bought the tickets directly on site, it was super easy and fast. We asked the driver who picked us up to the airport to make a stop at this place to see the space, which is interesting by the guide's explanation about the giant turtles and also to see some of the lava tunnels.

Operator response

Hi Raquel Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to El Chato Reserve and that the experience was easy and convenient for you. Seeing the giant tortoises in their natural habitat and exploring the lava tunnels are definitely some of the most special experiences on Santa Cruz Island. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in the Galápagos Islands. We would be delighted to welcome you again in the future! Regards from Nature Galápagos & Ecuador Team

A Must-see Place but no need to skip the “line”

Definitely a must-see and a great bookend experience to the Darwin Conservation center in Puerto Ayora. So many tortoises! Knowledgeable guides. You do not need a skip the line ticket though. Like most everything we experienced in Ecuador, there were NO LINES for anything. You can just buy tickets when you get there. Arch a can from Puerto Ayora and have them wait while you explore the park. It costs about $20 for the round trip. The lava caves were also very interesting.

Operator response

Thank you so much for your detailed and lovely review, Meredith! We’re really happy to hear that you enjoyed the experience and that you found everything easy and without long lines 😊 You’re absolutely right! Many times visitors can purchase tickets on site without any problem. We offer the pre-booked / skip-the-line service mainly for travelers who prefer to have everything arranged in advance and want complete peace of mind, especially during high season or on tighter schedules. Some guests simply feel more comfortable knowing everything is secured before they arrive. We truly appreciate you sharing your experience, and we hope to welcome you again in the future!

Incredibly Large Land Turtles

This tour is peculiar because in this place, we can observe the giant terrestrial turtles and photograph them freely. This species is especially very large and impressive. There is also a restaurant, snack bar and souvenirs shop.

Operator response

Dear Fernanda Oi! Que bom que você gostou do passeio e das tartarugas gigantes — elas realmente impressionam! Fico feliz que tenha aproveitado o lugar e os serviços também. Espero que volte para mais momentos especiais aqui com a gente! Abraços,

Do not buy tickets in advance! There's no queue.

This was probably worth a visit, as we were able to see giant sailboats and lavatunnels. Still, it is not worth buying tickets in advance for $9 per person, as tickets on site cost $10, and we still had to pay $5 in addition to this ticket on Tripadvisor. Just recommend going there and not buying a ticket in advance. This Tripadvisor offer is only more expensive. We felt deceived.

Great place to see the tortoises

This is a great place to visit with an enormous number of tortoises. If you want to see these animals this is the best place to. One and see them. We went on other tours and this was far far far better.

Operator response

Hi Russ, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your visit to El Chato 2 and had the chance to see so many giant tortoises up close. It truly is one of the best spots in the Galápagos to appreciate these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. We're also glad to know it stood out compared to other tours. We hope to welcome you again on a future adventure in the Galápagos or mainland Ecuador! Warm regards, Nature Galapagos & Ecuador Team

Amazing Experience but the the reserved tickets are a scam

Do not book these tickets through Viator. They do not get you into the reserve. El Chato Ranch does not recognize these tickets and you will have to pay at the park again, which by the way is only $5 a person.

Operator response

Dear Linda, We apologize for any confusion regarding your booking and appreciate you contacting us for clarification. We'd like to confirm that the tour you booked is exclusively for admission to the venue and is designed to be a self-guided experience. This means a guide isn't assigned to personally accompany you during your visit. The admission cost was paid upon your arrival. The additional $20.00 you mentioned is for the service of a guide, which isn't part of the tour package you selected. We understand that information can sometimes be a bit confusing. That's why we always recommend checking the reservation link, where all the details about what each tour includes and doesn't include are clearly specified. You'll find all the information you need there. We hope this clarifies things Best regards Fernanda

Wonderful nature experience on Santa Cruz islands in the highlands area. Great to do right after you land

Never did I expect to see huge long neck tortoises that are really old mating. That was a once in a lifetime experience for sure. Well organized with nature guide who took us thru the turtle area and then down into lava tunnels. Very interesting.

Operator response

"Wow! What an incredible moment to witness! We're so happy you shared this amazing experience with us. We strive to provide memorable tours, and it sounds like we succeeded. Thank you for your fantastic review!"
