Description

Secret Lagoon natural hot springs are located in the small village called Fludir and are in the Golden Circle area. We have kept it natural and unique for our guests so they can get the true Icelandic feeling. The pool’s natural surroundings and steam rising into the air gives the place a magical feeling. The warm water stays at 38-40 Celsius all year. In the whole area there are several geothermal spots and a little Geysir which erupts every 5 minutes, showing off for the guests relaxing in the hot spring. During winter, Northern lights can often be seen in the area and what better way to experience the light show than relaxing in the warm water surrounded by the steam from the earth?

Originally built in 1891, the ‘Gamla Laugin’ as it eventually came to be known, was Iceland’s first swimming pool. For decades thereafter, Gamla Laugin was virtually abandoned until its present day owner decided to give it new life in 2005. By this time, the pool had long been forgotten and for a few years he used it as his own private heated swimming pool just for himself and a few friends, remaining a secret for several years. That is how The Secret Lagoon got its enigmatic name.  A natural hot spring feeds the lagoon with 38-39°C water  that bubbles up from deep within the earth at a rate of 10 litres per second, constantly replenishing itself so that there is a steady supply of fresh clean water in the pool at any given time. The Secret Lagoon offers brand new facilities next the hot spring area in Fludir. Facilities available: changing rooms, showers, resting rooms, bar and restaurant area. With the completion of changing rooms, showering facilities, outside deck, walkways and a small café, The Secret Lagoon quietly opened in the summer of 2014.

Worth a visit!

Lovely hot springs (HOT!). Be aware charging rooms are open and naked shower is mandatory before getting in the water. Separate men’s and women’s changing areas. We didn’t get any drinks but people were enjoying them! Worth a visit

Price well below other hot springs even though it is very nice. The water is clear, clean, and odorless.

Among the best lagoons in the south of Iceland

Third time visiting this hot springs. It's about an hour and a half drive from Reykjavik and well worth the drive if you have a day to spend. (Scenery along the the route is nice also.) From downtown Reykjavik, you can rent a car for the day from the BSI bus terminal. Would recommend pairing it with a pre or post visit to the fantastic Fridheimar Tomato's restaurant only a few minutes away. The spa is nothing like the other more commercial, swim-up bar lagoons closer to the city. It's actually the oldest hot springs open in Iceland. While it can get busy, it has never felt overcrowded to us and at dusk or evening, it's magical. Highly recommend!

A must-do!

We were able to book the same day thanks to Viator even though there was no availability left on the Secret Lagoon website. Thank you Viator, and thank you Secret Lagoon for this Icelandic experience that respects the natural site. Tourists yes, but friendly ones!

I liked the Secret Lagoon... the best of 5 I went to

This is the oldest and nicest lagoon out of the 5 I visited. I liked it the most because of the larger deep pool. Most of the other lagoons did not have such a large hot pool. Water temp was great and there were two smaller hot pools and I believe there was also a cold plunge tub. Bring a towel and water shoes. The big pool has pebbles at the bottom. Strongly recommend advance purchase admission. It gets busy.

Bring your own towel

BRING YOUR OWN TOWELS! We loved the experience, but we were shocked by the price to rent very cheap towels. Buyer beware, I guess. Other than the cost of the towels, it’s a wonderful place to spend time with your family. ❤️
