MACBA is located in Barcelona’s historic old town and has more than 20,000 square meters of floor space showcasing contemporary art through permanent and temporary exhibitions. The building that houses the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art was designed by Richard Meier, which is set out on a cultural landmark. The 2023 program explores complex visions of contemporary art through visual arts, performance, film, music or events. From 14th December 2022 to mid 2024, you can visit the MACBA Collection: Prelude, with a poetic intention. You can also enjoy the following temporary exhibitions: - MACBA Collection. Prelude. The Collection starts with the 50th abstraction and follows the evolution of European pop, the avant-garde of the sixties and seventies, the centrality of the word and poetic experience, and the return of photographic figurative. In order to fulfill its educational mission, MACBA offers a series of programs and resources that help visitors to engage with its contents. There's a team of full-time educators work with the public, offering presentations and guided tours at set times and tours for groups by prior arrangement. They are also available to help the public with questions that may arise during their visit to the museum, provide information on the works displayed and comment on the exhibitions. The purpose of the museum is to become a space where knowledge is created through interaction with the artworks, a place that encourages dialogue and shared reflection among educators and the many different kinds of people who visit it.

A superb building. Original, surprising exhibitions on 3 levels.
Opened in 1995, it is a modern white building with stained glass windows by American architect Meier and is the most important contemporary art hub in the city. There are more than 5500 works on several levels that are exhibited in rotation during the year, as well as interesting periodic exhibitions, while the museum also has a small cafeteria and bookshop. The works, which are mostly from 1920 to the present day, include photography, graffiti, painting, sculpture, drawing and collages with particular attention to Catalan and Spanish artists (Tapie, Barcelò, Chillida, etc.), but also of international importance, such as Cage, Calder, Nauman, Basquiat and Klee. In front of Placa dels Angels you will notice many skaters, because this space is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe for fans and the museum itself has contributed to the recovery of an area of the neighborhood once run down and now returned to new life. I would say a modern and very interesting museum especially for lovers of this kind of art.
The museum as a building (Richard Meier) is architecturally a masterpiece. The exhibition itself disappointed me: Too much politics, too little art! My 2 cents to that....
Definitely explicit gay artist installations! You are greeted by the photo of a naked man kneeling seen from behind that leaves no room for imagination! The rest all on this line! Children and teenagers also go, I find it really indecent not to write it before entering!!!! A shame!!!!
We visited this museum a bit "by chance" and were fully satisfied. Structured on several floors you can appreciate works of different kinds, some decidedly strong others very particular. Definitely worth it
Museum with a nice container (congratulations to the architect) cared for, but the works and especially the badly explained route (audioguide only in English and Spanish). It seems that one wants to be original at all costs at the expense of understanding us mere mortals. Some important and sensitive topics should be addressed with more precise captions and within the reach of children (until the age of 18 the ticket is free). In short, for those who have children or teenagers I do not recommend it
Contemporary art is not liked or not.This huge museum presents many new collections very diverse and thematic. Warm welcome. For pensioners over 65 years old admission and free.
I went there more for the container than the contents. Although the interior spaces are almost disproportionate to the human dimension and view. There are many dark rooms and videos. Very very contemporary art. Depends on taste
Usually when we think of Barcelona comes to mind the sacred family or the Picasso museum. This museum escapes from this "street" and leads us to know the best that is done in contemporary art. It is not a museum for all tastes, but for those who like it. To finish this museum is one of the 5 that are inserted in a program of the city where we buy a kind of passport and for a year we can visit once each of the 5 museums, making it cheaper
A contemporary art gallery with a variety of exhibits from Spanish artists. The staff at reception were very helpful with maps and guides.
