Itinerary
Visit to the beautiful and historic town of Sintra, a UNESCO world heritage site. Discover the picturesque streets, the Sintra National Palace, the fountains, the churches, chapels and shrines
We will visit a fantastic wine shop located in Sintra On this village farm, the production of wines was interrupted 100 years ago. The present owners, with the help of Portuguese and French experts, have studied the local soil and climate, modernized the production and brought their vineyards back to life. At the moment, they produce red and white wines in a traditional way with high quality and national and international recognition.
Colares, the most unique appelation in the world The cooperative winery at Colares (Adega Regional de Colares) was founded in 1931. It congregates today more than 50% of the total production, with an important social role in the region. Its beautiful building dates back to the late 19th century, with an imposing interior housing wooden barrels, casks and vats totaling more than 1 million liters capacity. It is the maturing and aging place “par excellence” for the wines of this appellation.
Next, visit Azenhas do Mar, a coastal village in the municipality of Sintra with a very picturesque landscape.
Next, make the short drive to Praia da Maçãs, a well-known beach with golden sand and clear water. Locals typically visit to spend time at the ocean as well as the near-by saltwater swimming pool.
Discover the most westerly point of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca. From the cliff tops, enjoy the fantastic view of the beaches and the sea.
On the way back, we will have the chance to enjoy this unique beach with its famous dunes. A real sanctuary for surf, windsurf and kitesurf.
And of course we can’t leave without visiting the charming town of Cascais. This former fishing village used to be a royal getaway. Nowadays it still is one of the most attractive destinations for the Portuguese and foreign elite thanks to all that it has to offer: boutiques, restaurants, hotels, beaches and much more.

We are still smiling from our perfect day exploring Sintra and the surrounding areas. What began as a last-minute decision turned into the absolute highlight of our trip, all thanks to you. We feel we truly hit the jackpot with our guide, Jose. His fun, high-energy personality was infectious, and his vast knowledge of the area—plus his insights on so many other topics—made the journey as enlightening as it was enjoyable. He didn't just show us the sights; he brought the history, culture, and magic of Portugal to life. We cannot thank you enough for such a fantastic and memorable experience. It was more than we could have ever hoped.
We had a lovely weekend in Lisbon and our day trip to Sintra including a wine tasting experience was absolutely the highlight. We booked with Lisbon on Wheels and the communication with Nuno was excellent from the outset. There was a minor problem with our Vineyard visit but this was dealt with brilliantly by Nuno and our guide, Jose. Jose was amazing, very enthusiastic and determined to make our tour special. Jose delivered a memorable day, full of interest and great fun too. The revised itinerary was perfect for us. We saw everything we wanted to see and more. We cannot recommend Jose and Lisbon on Wheels highly enough. Thank Jose and Nuno for a fantastic day
Jose is an amazing human with massive knowledge of not just Lisbon, Sintra, and Portugal but an amazing understanding of the world! He was able to get us around the region quickly despite the heavy traffic from the huge amount of people going to the same places. He was also clearly well respected and knew all the people at our stops (locals touch)! The whole company is very professional and timely while also offering up options to choose from along the way. We had a blast on day 1 of our honeymoon because of Jose, 10/10 would recommend!!!
We were privileged to have Joese take us on our tour to Sintra. He is truly a professional and it shows in how he is treated by others. We were able to see beautiful places, enjoy the wine experience and enjoy his company as well. Highly recommend him.
Jose was incredible! We had an absolutely wonderful time with Jose! He is so knowledgeable and has so much information to share about the history of Portugal, the Portuguese territories and his own background. He's met some incredible people and clearly is in this industry because he loves sharing knowledge and experiences with people from all over. We have told everyone that is thinking about going to Portugal that they need to book with Jose! He also took time to know us and was able to customize on the fly to make a memorable experience for my husband to meet some other wine industry folks since he works in the industry. It was such a memorable experience and highly recommend Jose!
This was the most memorable part of our trip to Portugal! Not having much of an itinerary for our trip, we found this tour as a wine tasting experience but it was so much more. Don’t get me wrong, the wine was amazing and the two stops were more than enough to make this experience worth it, but the Lisbon on wheels team were what really made this stand above the rest. Our guide Jose was more than just a guide, he was friendly, attentive, charming and extremely knowledgeable and really gave us a week or more experience in Lisbon in just the few hours we had. The sites he showed us were breathtaking and not something we would have known of had we tried to do this on our own. He really made the whole experience with witty humor and conversation and not only would we recommend this to anyone looking to experience Lisbon and Sintra, but if I go back the first thing I would do is make sure I book this tour again for the fun of it. Saúde Jose and thank you again!
I booked this experience for my best friends birthday and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Our guide, now friend, Jose, was an absolute pleasure. He curated our whole tour and was extremely knowledgeable. His personality is not only charming, but a joy to be around. I would come back to Lisbon just for another trip with him! Highly recommend!
We are so appreciative to have José Ribeiro as our guide. We not only saw typical tourist attractions, but got a great taste of local life in Lisbon. Jose is so knowledgeable and we loved all of the stories he shared
Highly recommend the private wine tour with Jose, very friendly and reliable tour guide/driver. Jose picked us from the hotel and dropped us off at the end of the day. Beyond the delicious wine, you get to see many beautiful spots in Colares and Sintra regions. Jose also made sure that we had plenty of time in Cascais (beautiful town) to enjoy a fantastic seafood and have time to explore the town and some delicious gelato.
Jose is a very interesting guide. Besides our wine tasting, he suggested lots of beautiful places for us to visit. Highlight will be the Azenhas de Mar, the scenery here was stunning. Neptuno Bar for lunch was great, Praia das Maçãs was such a nice beach for family. We also went to the western most point, Cabo da Roca, remember has to tide your hair, the wind was so strong here. Then along the way back to Cascais was all beautiful scenery.
