Shared Tour: Xunantunich and Horseback Riding from Belize City

Description
This shared Xunantunich and horseback riding tour combines a major Maya city with a genuine Belize ranch experience at Banana Bank Lodge & Jungle Horseback Adventures. Reach Xunantunich by the memorable hand-cranked ferry across the Mopan River, then explore plazas, palaces, carved friezes, and El Castillo with a guide who explains the city’s ceremonial importance and regional connections. At Banana Bank, the setting changes from monumental stone architecture to working ranch country, tropical trails, and riverside scenery. Meet the ranch team, receive a safety orientation, and ride a horse selected for your ability while following the guide’s pace through the landscape. What makes the tour distinctive is the contrast between two ways of understanding the Cayo region. Travelers first learn how the ancient Maya organized and used this environment, then experience the countryside at trail level from horseback.

This was a pretty fun tour! We enjoyed learning about Xunantunich. The horse ride was not what is pictured/described here but I think sometimes things change and the tour companies have to roll with it, so it’s not a big deal. Just a heads up, it says that lunch is included but it was not. You may want to bring some snacks of your own just in case. Our guide Paul was really nice and fun to chat with.
This is an incredible site. A must see for anyone visiting Belize. Our tour guides Arlo and Dino were terrific and so knowledgeable. We then had an amazing young man at Banana Boat Lodge take us on a wonderful horseback riding tour through the property. We highly recommend this tour.
