San Jose ART Walking Tour - small groups, creative experience

We would gladly take this tour again. Chris was amazing.

Well, obviously the guide did the tour for someone else. He started with the words, well all the spots with art... since corona they are down. Okay, but why do your operator sells it still in 2026? Then we wandered around the city, saw street art by luck, but got no explanation about the artist, one restaurant with a gallery and no artist chat or atelier or something even close to this. Well we learned something about Christopher Columbus ("Do you ever heard of him?"...oh dear) and the social security system of Costa Rica...Nice guide, he did his best, therefore 3 Stars, the tour itself disappointing 😞

The guide knows history and social theory very well. You can enjoy talking to her as a typical tourist learning basics or as a social science academic. Far better than the general walking tours.

Superb! I added on the history selection to this tour, and I'm so glad I did. Our guide, Manuela, was excellent. She took us through the history of Costa Rica, political, social, economic, and artistic, as we strolled through central San José, linking buildings, statues, parks, and art into a cohesive picture of Costa Rica. Coming at the end of our trip here, this tour brought together everything we've experienced and answered many questions. It would, though, work equally well at any time of a visit here.

Stacey was an excellent guide. As we were the only two people on the tour she tailored our walk to what we wanted to see which was a mixture of art and historic buildings. She also showed us a couple of shops selling locally made crafts. The tour was exactly what we wanted, and we would never have found many of the buildings we saw let alone realised you could do inside them. Stacy was also a mine of information and we learned things that we would never have found in a guidebook. I would definitely recommend Barrio Bird Walking Tours, particularly if you only have a short amount of time in San Jose

Our guide, named Manuela, was well informed and interesting. She provided us with an extensive history of the country and information about the social and political aspects of society. She was able to answer all the questions we asked and her English was excellent. She showed us the various street art that was available to see as well as the museum of contemporary art. In short, we very much appreciated both the tour and our guide, who I would rate as exceptional!

This was an incredible experience, well crafted from beginning to end. Angel and Oscar were a lot of fun and offered a lot of information. Both the drinks and the food was so delicious, as well.There isn’t much time in Central Market, so allow another time in San José for that adventure. We highly recommend this excursion!

The guide was very knowledgeable. It was a great experience. I got to see a lot of beautiful art and learn about some of the history of Costa Rica. I would definitely recommend!

What an incredible experience! I ended up having a private tour and my guide Silvia was remarkable. Not only is she a great guide, but also our lives are on similar paths so we got along great. Got to discover neighborhoods and architecture outside the central avenue and will likely return to on my next visit.
