we loved our trek so much. The experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity and our guides helped us create memories that will forever be with us. Sam and Yeferson we’re both so brilliant and guide us through our trek so well the staff were all amazing and the food and accommodation were brilliant. we definitely recommend this trip with alpaca to everyone as it was such such a brilliant experience that we will forever remember.
I didn’t know what to expect going into this trip as I had never done anything like this before, but this company exceeded anything I could have ever expected. Alvin and David were our guides, and I couldn’t be more grateful for them. Their kindness, intelligence, humor, and care left a lasting mark on me. When someone in our group got sick, they both took turns checking on them throughout the evening, bringing them tea and broth to help their stomach. Alvin made me laugh more than I had in months, and David’s calm, kind demeanor was the perfect counter. Alvin said that at the end of the trek we would be a family and I truly felt that, as cliche as it sounds. It was like saying goodbye to two friends at the end of everything, and it honestly brought me to tears. The food was amazing, especially when you see how humble the kitchens in the dining rooms are. I’m a very picky eater and there was nothing I couldn’t eat and nothing I didn’t enjoy. We were given three hearty meals a day along with dessert after dinner. Each meal was filling and fueled me for the long days ahead. I have no complaints about the accommodations- each day was no less than 13 miles (according to my smartwatch) so for me, a bed is a bed. I did find the night at the glass dome to be exceptionally cold, but that was my own fault for not renting the sleeping bags that Alpaca offers (I heard theirs were very warm- mine was a cheap packable one from Amazon). I had never done a hike like this before, and am not an overly active person (I’m fit and hike casually, but nothing more than 10 miles prior to this), but I was able to complete the trek without any issues. Day two, which is the highest point, was definitely physically taxing, but taking it slow helped a lot- I found the (optional) hike up to Humantay Lake on day one to be much harder for whatever reason. There was a couple in our group from the Netherlands who were disgustingly entitled and rude to Alvin and other guides/staff, refusing to tip and more (I’d be here all day if I detailed every example of their abhorrent behavior)- they were the only bad part about this trip. I truly don’t know why they were complaining as everything moved according to what was outlined in the pre-departure meeting- and any other minor random little hiccups should have been chalked up to the nature of life- things happen. Everything we did they had something negative or sarcastic to say. I think they expected a boujee influencer style experience where everyone treats you like you’re the most important person in the room and that’s just not the case (nor should it be). I wanted to include this paragraph incase they leave a review, because anything they say is coming from a place of ignorance. If you read this far, I cannot recommend this company and this trek enough. Thank you again Alpaca, and thank you Alvin and David, for making this trip so special.
Everything was awesome, generally speaking one of the best experience of my life, the views were completely insane. The private chef, the guys were just perfect. good English, and very knowledgeable. Thought about the culture the quechua Special, Things to Javier. Super fun guide to have. Overall, the experience was worth it.
Everything would just over the top, the lodging, the food, the cooks were amazing, or guides were very knowledgeable and super friendly and helpful. Special. Thank you to Wilbert, for your knowledgeable about the traditions of the Incas, and the beliefs of his ancestors.
My boyfriend, his sister and I completed the 5 day Salkantay trek and it was honestly one of the most amazing experiences we have done. Our guides, Javi and Wilbert taught us so much about the Inca’s and were super friendly and spoke great English!! They were always willing to help and made sure we felt safe and comfortable. We were woken up with hot tea every morning at 4/5am! The food was also excellent and so much better than we expected it to be! We would definitely recommend Alpaca expeditions to others! It does get pretty cold up there and can be hard when there is no hot water until the 3rd night, so come mentally prepared!
This 5 day hike was a true once in a lifetime experience! My friends and I had the great time with an awesome group of people. The accommodations were unique and beautiful and the food exceeded my expectations. The hike itself is an experience I’ll never forget. My guides, Javier and Wilbert, were fantastic. I could not have done the trek without them. They were both very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They stayed with me and others when we fell behind, provided supplies and advice, and provided a sense of safety. I would recommend Alpaca Expeditions to anyone!
This hike with alpaca expeditions was unreal. Everything exceeded my expectations. The food was amazing, the accommodation was clean and comfortable, and the guides (Sergio and Jefferson) made the whole group feel like a family. I particularly loved the morning wake up calls with tea, and Sergio's obvious passion for teaching and history when he guided us through circuit 3 of Machu Picchu. We had a group of 13 on our tour. We were all similar in ages, like 23-32. I recommend borrowing a sleeping bag from Himalaya Outdoor because it was half the price. I didn't use walking sticks for this hike and was fine but most of the group had them. Thank you Sergio and Jefferson and the rest of the behind the scenes staff!
Let's go to Machu Picchu. So, as soon as I started planning, I discovered Salkantay Trek. I started considering it because I thought it would be better to enjoy the great outdoors than the famous Inca Trail, but when I looked at photos and videos of the promotion, most of them were young. I've never been on a four-night, five-day trek at altitudes above 4,000 meters in the first place, so am I okay? I kept contacting Alpaca. They replied kindly, politely and promptly each time, and I was able to participate with peace of mind. Even before we left, they showed us the precautions at Lima airport and the list of things to bring. Thank you to Alex and Yfery for their guide, chef, sous-chef and helper staff for their meticulous care. Perhaps it was a good thing that it was a bit expensive during the Salkantay Trek tour, and the members enjoyed themselves as adults. Not only is the daily food delicious, but the presentation is also stylish. Even though there is no oven, I was impressed to see the cake. Kui (guinea pigs) didn't make an appearance, but it was also great to enjoy quinoa, Peruvian ingredients, and Peruvian cuisine. Pan Chuta , which I saw at the market and was curious about but was too big for the couple to buy, is also here. It was delicious. Finally, I found it particularly wonderful that they were able to flexibly respond to participants’ requests. I thought it would be difficult to see the sights in Ollantaytambo on the itinerary, but since it passes when I return to Cusco from Machu Picchu, I said in a bad way, "Is it possible to come back with the people from the tour who are going to get off in Ollantaytambo and leave after our day?" I asked him if he was OK. In Ollantaytambo, he drove me to the hotel. (Cars are not allowed until in front of the hotel) If I ever go to Peru again, I'd love to join Alpaca's tour!
My spouse & I purchased the Sacred Valley, Salkantay Trek, & Machu Picchu experiences through Alpaca Expeditions. I now understand their reputation of being the best at what they do! Both of us were sick at different sections of the journey. The guides were extremely supportive and flexible, offering us different options. The meals were absolutely incredible with the kitchen accommodating my food allergies skillfully. Thank you Alpaca Expeditions!! And the biggest thank you to our incredible guides who made the trip what it was: Serguinho, Roger, & Rony!!!
It was an amazing experience and so professional! All the team was so professional! The chef Valberto and his team did amazing meals ! It was a real pleasure to come to eat after our hike. Joyce and Jefferson were so friendly professional and they really take care of each person in our group. Alpaca expedition could be proud to have these persons in the team!
