This was the most fantastic trekking experience I’ve had to date, and it was made special because of the guide we had: José Chavez Alvarez. He thought through everything - handled all logistics, getting us up and down the mountain safely, kept us fed and full, ensured we were as comfortable as possible, and shared the best stories about his life and Perú. I learned so much and pushed my own limits. The 5 day experience was such a great value for the incredible views of Salkantay and Machu Picchu. Highly recommend taking a horse up through the Andes when you have the option, it is a lifesaver in high altitude conditions.
We had the most amazing time on the Salkantay Trek with Salkantay Trekking! Our trek was made unforgettable by our guide, Fredy Apaza, and our incredible chef, who was also named Fredy! Fredy was the best guide we could have asked for. He was knowledgeable, encouraging, and attentive to everyone in our group. He guided us confidently through the trek while also helping arrange accommodations and alternate routes for members of our group who struggled with certain sections. He made sure everyone felt supported and included, which made a huge difference in our experience. The views along the route are absolutely spectacular, but having a knowledgeable and passionate guide makes all the difference. We learned so much throughout our journey, from Incan ingenuity to the rich history and culture of the area. I was also extremely impressed with the food at every stop. Every meal was thoughtfully prepared for us, and honestly, we ate better on the trail than we do at home! They were also incredibly accommodating of dietary restrictions and preferences. I have allergies to egg, chicken, garlic, and tomato, which can be pretty restrictive, but they handled them with ease. I was given delicious alternatives and was able to eat well and enjoy every meal throughout the trek. This was something I was nervous about going into the trip, and they completely exceeded my expectations. Beyond the incredible scenery and history, we grew closer as a group and made memories that we’ll carry with us for a lifetime. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Highly recommend Salkantay Trekking and the Fredy x2 team! 🇵🇪🥾⛰️
This experience was truly one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Everything was incredible: the people I shared the trek with, the food, the landscapes, and even the constantly changing weather. We experienced snowstorms, rain, sunshine, and conditions I honestly never expected to encounter in Peru, especially in August. Somehow, all of that made the journey even more unforgettable. A huge part of what made this experience so special was the entire team behind it. The muleteers, the cooks, and especially our guides, Frank and Julio, were outstanding. We genuinely could not have asked for better guides. They were professional, attentive, knowledgeable, and, above all, wonderful people to share such an important journey with. Before this trip, I had started to lose interest in doing group adventures. I was always a little worried about ending up with a group or guides I didn’t connect with. This trek completely changed my perspective. It reminded me how meaningful it can be to share an experience with people who have the same respect for the journey, the mountains, and each other. I met amazing people, had exceptional guides, and felt surrounded by a team that was professional, warm, and deeply committed to making the experience unforgettable. I came back fascinated, grateful, and with a completely renewed appreciation for group travel. Thank you to everyone at Salkantay Trekking, and especially to Frank, Julio, the cooks, the muleteers, and all the people who shared these days with me. I will remember this experience for the rest of my life.
A fabulous trek with beautiful scenery, interesting history, and great food and facilities.
This trek, Salkantay trekking company, guide (Fredy Apaza), and chef (Fredy Mamani) were absolutely spectacular! I seriously couldn’t recommend this adventure enough!! The accommodations were top-tier, and so was the food. Our chef was also amazing with allergies! They didn’t just tell you what you couldn’t eat, they went above and beyond to provide special allergy-friendly alternatives. Our guide, Fredy, was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely made the experience so special. I learned SO much throughout the trek and truly couldn’t have asked for a more amazing guide! If you’re considering doing this trek with this trekking company, DO IT!! You won’t regret it! 🏔️✨
Dario was an amazing guide! My wife and I had an unforgettable 5 days, the accommodation was perfect after long days hiking. The guidance and experience Dario provided was exceptional. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a challenging but rewarding hiking experience.
The experience was amazing. Everything was planned perfectly and we were taken care off very well. The amounts amouts and quality of food was great, our guide (Edgar) was amazing as well and spoke english perfectly. We would highly recommend you book your trek with this organization.
I booked this trip with my 15 year old daughter to do something adventurous and challenging and it certainly did not disappoint. We saw so many incredible things that its impossible to say what was best. The first two days were the most challenging but were still very doable. I am 54 years old and not an experienced hiker and still was able to manage. I loved the diversity of the trip, going from glaciers to jungles and seeing the history and culture of the region. The lodging locations were unique and stunning. The food was delicious. Every night our chef prepared a great meal with several dishes. You certainly did not go hungry. Lastly, the thing that made the experience complete was our guide, Jose! From the minute we met him, he was attentive and caring. He put a lot of effort making sure we had everything we needed. He continously fed us information about the places we visited. He always went above and beyond for us. He knew all of the good spots for pictures and served as our personal photographer. I would definitely recommend Salkantay Trekking and if you are lucky, you will get Jose as your guide.
We are a family of 4, two teenagers aged 13 and 16 who did the Salkantay in 5 days. The experience was incredible. The food, the accommodation, the days of hiking, and the guide, everything was perfect! I have nothing but good words! The children loved their experience, Franz the guide was very kind to them and allowed them to have confidence throughout the trek. The organization was perfect, a relaxed guide, adaptive to the group, very friendly! I highly recommend this guide to you: Franz the Andean goat ;)
This was quite an experience! Hard work trekking, but our guide, Joel Fuentes, is outstanding and got us there in one piece while simultaneously sharing his fund of knowledge. The views along the way are spectacular and definitely something to experience. The support staff—chef, sous-chef and horseman—all did a fantastic job in their roles. Highly recommended as long as you’re up for a physical challenge! (Family of 5—59, 57, 23, 21, 18)
