Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike – Adventure in a Small Group

My fiance and I had a great time! Our tour guide Leo was fun and knowledgeable about the glacier and its history. He explained how to use the equipment so we felt confident navigating the rough terrain. He even gave us some recommendations for food, hikes, and camping and took excellent pictures of us. The company prioritizes safety and frequently reroutes for the changing conditions and keeps groups small to make it safe for visitors. This was a highlight of our visit and we'd highly recommend this experience. When and if we visit again we'll be sure to go back on this hike.

I went on an early 0900 hike. It was the only time slot open but honestly it worked out so well. The tour guide takes you in a beautiful hike to the glacier. The hike is beautiful where you get to experience valleys full of moss and berries, creeks and waterfalls. After we made it to the glacier and our tour guide named Ekla was such a great leader, adventurer, full of enthusiasm and just overall made the experience so amazing. From tips on how to walk with crampons, to taking us far into the glacier hike, to giving us information about Iceland and its history, it was just so good!! Highly recommend early hike because when our group was heading back there were a lot of people in the trail and glacier

She was high-energy, knowledgeable, and paid great attention to safety throughout the entire tour. I especially appreciated that she gave everyone an opportunity to assess whether they felt comfortable continuing before we got too far into the experience. She made it clear that there was absolutely no pressure to continue if anyone felt they were in over their head, and even assured us that anyone who decided not to continue would receive a refund. I thought that was incredibly professional and showed that safety genuinely came first. The tour was also very educational, and our guide made the whole experience fun from beginning to end. I would absolutely recommend this tour. Best tour I’ve done in Iceland so far!

Our guide Michal shared a lot of fascinating information about the history and geology of the terrain. He also did a great job pacing the hikes to accommodate everyone in the group.

We had an amazing time on the glacier with our guide Leo Rossignol! I don't know that one gets the opportunity to walk on the face of a glacier all that often, so we wanted to seize the opportunity - and our experience was wonderful. With the increased rate of glacial melting, the previous route has melted away and become unstable, so we took a new hike up to the glacier that they've only just begun toward the end of July 2026 - the route is somewhat of a hike but more than worth it (my wife and I are relatively active and in our low 30s so it wasn't difficult, but for context we walked about 3.5 miles total and had about 1100 feet of elevation change over the course of ~3hrs, from start to finish). They definitely are explicit about the new changes before you get started, but we always felt very safe and I think if you're up for a bit of a hike then you will find the views worth your while. Leo was great, because we were in a small, able-bodied group, he took us a little higher up on the glacier so that we could get better views of the ice cap and lake at the bottom of the glacier tongue. We were his second group of the day and he was still energetic and excited to both show and explain everything he could about the glacier! Side notes: there were other groups that navigated the glacier just fine with capable and responsible children. Icelandia also gave us proper hiking boots as our boots did not provide adequate ankle support. There are also restrooms on site at the base camp that you can access for free once you check in (they were maybe 300 Kr if you didn't get the bathroom ticket from the check-in office prior).

It was magnificent, plus we had good weather. A very friendly guide who is very focused on safety. Everything was perfect. Tiring but great to do.

This was an amazing experience and we got to see things we never could have otherwise. Our guide was an experienced mountaineer and we appreciated her safety standards, experience and vast knowledge of the glacier. Everyone in the family said it was the best outing we did!!
