Well worth a visit - it’s stunning

Absolutely stunning building did not disappoint. Our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable. We were a group of 16 and I was in a wheelchair (provided by the venue - thank you). We were treated very well and it was a really special experience.

Interesting place to visit

Been visiting Brighton for years and finally made it to the Pavillion. Such an interesting story behind the building. Would highly recommend getting the audio guide as it brought each room to life.

Incredible preservation of art and design

This experience was beyond any expectation! The art and design contained in the Pavilion is mind blowing. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting London as it is a short hour away in Brighton which is also lovely.

A must- see

A return visit after several years. You walk around on your own. Audio guides available if you want them. Late in the day it was very quiet so we almost had it to ourselves. The room stewards were exceptionally helpful but not overpowering. You can take photos everywhere.

Surprisingly interesting

I didn’t have any expectations of what the Pavillion would be like, but I really enjoyed the opulence, the history of it that was quite interesting and the fact that you didn’t really need an audio guide, cause the history was told all through it in texts. I found the history of the building being a war hospital for Indian soldiers and the colonial heritage being particularly interesting. Well done Brighton city!

Disappointed

Took us 45 mins to tour this dreary Pavillion. The outside is intriguing but inside definitely disappoints from the start. We understand why it is gloomily lit but to be honest the Chinese dragon styling of the decor is ridiculously opulent and in the most part restoration, not original. The most interesting aspect was the video about the structure and tunnels, and the display on the wartime use by Indian soldiers. We paid £21 for both of us (2 for 1 offer if travelling by train) and glad we didn’t pay full price. At that price I won’t pay the extra for an audio guide - and having since read other reviews I didn’t realise that the QR codes in rooms gave more info. Some info boards with large print would be helpful. And repetitive requests for donations etc - I can see why the dragon activities are there for little ones but for me - I was pleased to finally get to the exit.

Lovely building! Fun to see. Loved learning about George IV, we purchased the automated tour, it worked well.

A Georgian palace on something that would probably be illegal today!

I went under duress - I really don't like Georgian and Regency stuff. But I was really pleasantly surprised. Knee deep in dragons (actually mostly wyverns), and bamboo decorations (designed by someone who'd never seen bamboo!) Almost all Chinese (our fake Chinese), set in an Indian palace - "make up your mind!" Quirky and really interesting - what you can do with unlimited money and a crazy imagination.

Operator response

Thank you for your review and we are delighted you enjoyed your visit to the Royal Pavilion! Next time, make sure you visit Brighton Museum (opposite) as we have an abundance of new visitor offerings starting in October 2026. We look forward to seeing you at our venues again soon.

Something different for once

Surprising visit to an Indian complex with Chinese decor. Too bad you can't see the outside properly and that the focus is on the inside. Especially because the two are so different from each other. The decor is quite bombastic and colorful and maybe quite kitsch, but that didn't bother us. It shouldn't always be European antiques. Again a pity that there is no Dutch audio tour, as with many other locations in UK. Worth going in here!
