Discover historic Route 66, Oatman, Kingman, and Nelson Ghost Town on a small-group tour from Las Vegas. Travel comfortably in a modern SUV, minivan or van, with ample time in Oatman to see the famous wild burros, explore classic Route 66 stops, and walk through one of Nevada’s most authentic ghost towns. This full-day experience is ideal for travelers who want scenic desert landscapes, history, and relaxed pacing — without large buses or rushed stops. Pickup and drop-off from select Las Vegas hotels are included, along with a knowledgeable local guide who handles driving, navigation, and timing so you can enjoy the journey stress-free. With small groups and carefully planned stops, this tour offers a more personal and immersive way to experience the Southwest beyond the Strip.
Your day begins with a scenic drive through the Nevada desert to Nelson Ghost Town, a once-booming gold mining settlement set in the rugged landscape of Eldorado Canyon. Spend about an hour exploring at a relaxed pace, walking among well-preserved historic buildings, vintage vehicles, and old mining equipment that offer a glimpse into the area’s Wild West past. This atmospheric ghost town is especially popular with photographers and history enthusiasts. Guests who wish may also optionally visit the Techatticup Mine for a guided underground tour, where stories of mining life and frontier history bring the town’s past to life.
Leaving Nelson, travel south into Arizona and join a scenic stretch of the iconic Route 66, where desert landscapes and classic roadside views capture the spirit of the American road trip. Continue to Oatman, a historic mining town set in the Black Mountains and best known for its friendly wild burros — descendants of the donkeys once used by miners. Enjoy up to 90 minutes of free time to explore at a relaxed pace. Wander the wooden sidewalks, see the burros roaming through town, browse souvenir shops, and grab lunch or snacks if you wish. With its Old West charm and laid-back atmosphere, Oatman offers one of the most memorable stops along Route 66 without feeling rushed.
After Oatman, continue to Kingman, one of the most important towns along historic Route 66. Visit the Arizona Route 66 Museum, located inside the restored Powerhouse Visitor Center, for an engaging look at the road’s history and cultural impact. Spend about 30–45 minutes exploring exhibits that showcase classic cars, vintage road signs, and historic photographs, offering a nostalgic glimpse into America’s golden age of road trips. This stop provides context and storytelling that brings the Route 66 experience full circle.
Just steps from the museum, make a brief stop at Locomotive Park to see the impressive Santa Fe Steam Engine No. 3759, a fully restored 1940s-era locomotive on public display. Spend about 15–20 minutes getting up close to this iconic piece of railroad history, with time for photos and a closer look at the engine’s details. This easy, outdoor stop adds a memorable touch to the Route 66 experience without extending the day.

Long day but super informative, interesting. Guide kept us informed right up until pick up. Transport was comfortable. Mathew was a great guide
Beautiful tour, the guide was prepared and competent; however, I booked an Italian guide and we were assigned an American guide.
Really enjoyed the trip; if you love exploring this one is for you, communication was clear from the start, and Matthew our guide was fantastic. It was a really hot day, and he ensured we all had enough water, and the AC temp was good. He helped take pictures of us as a family, and was really informative about all the locations we visited
You see so much in this trip Nelson ghost town really good Oatman everybody was so friendly Loads of photo opportunities along the way
Sorry for the late review - Matt was an excellent guid, full of knowledge and information on our trip in February. He drove by Laughlin and was able to give me history on the town after telling him I share my name with it. Highly recommended
I used to work for a charity that worked with donkeys so this trip was right up my street. Unfortunately my first trip was cancelled due to insufficient numbers, but Matt and the organisers really helped and they managed to work around my schedule to find an alternative date. Oatman was the highlight for me, but I really enjoyed the ghost town - it is a brilliant place to get great photos. Matt, our guide was excellent. Not only did I enjoy his commentary, which was really informative but I also enjoyed talking to him about life in the USA. I would highly recommend this trip, it is fun, very interesting and Matt is a fantastic guide who went out of his way to ensure we had a great trip. Obrigado Matt
We did a road trip from Vegas with 3 of my friends last summer and made sure to drive along Route 66. Honestly, pictures don't do justice to how cute and nostalgic the whole vibe is! Seeing all the vintage neon signs, retro diners, and classic cars in person was so much better than just looking at photos online.
It sounds like Route 66 was a memorable part of your road trip. The vintage signs, classic cars, old diners, and nostalgic atmosphere are truly special to experience in person. We are glad you and your friends had the opportunity to enjoy this iconic piece of American history. Thank you for sharing your experience!
The company that host the Route 66, Oatman, Nelson Ghost Town SmalGroup Tour from Las Vegas cancelled both of my tours saying they did not have enough people to the tours on the days I had scheduled and paid for. They have refunded one of my tours but have NOT REFUNDED THE SECOND ONE. I will be trying to book these tours at a later day hopefully with a different company.
We’re sorry that both tours had to be canceled because the minimum number of participants was not reached. We understand how disappointing this was, especially after planning and paying in advance. Both bookings have been fully refunded from our side. Depending on the booking platform and your bank, the second refund may take several business days to appear on your account. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you’re able to enjoy these destinations on a future visit.
I would strongly advise others not to book this tour. I was given a pickup time, but no one ever came to pick me up, and an entire day of my time was wasted. Two days before the tour, I received a message saying that the trip might be canceled because there were not enough participants. I told them that I completely understood. They then reassured me not to worry and said they would try to find more people so the tour could still go ahead. On the morning of the tour, I received another message confirming that the trip was proceeding as scheduled and reminding me to be ready on time. I trusted that information, canceled a very busy workday with many patients, and waited outside my house for pickup. After the scheduled pickup time had already passed, I called to ask what was happening. Only then was I informed that the tour had been canceled. This is absolutely not a communication issue. I have clear proof that I repeatedly contacted them, yet no one responded. This is completely unacceptable. I have suffered significant losses because of this situation,
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this caused. We had informed you that the tour did not yet have the minimum number of participants required to operate. Unfortunately, an automatic email was later sent stating that the tour was proceeding, which understandably made you believe the booking had been confirmed. However, regardless of the automated message, we should have contacted you directly and clearly confirmed the cancellation before the scheduled pickup time. We take responsibility for that communication failure and understand the impact it had on your workday and schedule. This was not the level of service we aim to provide, and we are reviewing our procedures to prevent a similar situation from happening again.
Great Tour. Great tour Guide. This tour was very good but because of what happend with our tour to area 51, I would not want to book a tour again through Viator. Disappointed with Viator, if you have a problem you can not talk to them. Very bad business
We’re glad you enjoyed the tour and had a great experience with your guide. We’re sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced with your separate Area 51 booking and Viator’s customer service. As an independent tour operator, we do not control Viator’s support process, but we completely understand your frustration. We truly appreciate your positive comments about our tour and team.
