Itinerary
one of the four major basilicas of Roman Catholic church. According to the Christian tradition, the church filled with a sacred atmosphere was built exactly over the tomb of the apostle, not far from the site of his martyrdom.
Today it is a quiet and peaceful monastery in the heart of Rome and one of the most venerated places in the city for pilgrims. Christian tradition holds that the Roman court sentenced the apostle to death for professing his creed. When Paul was beheaded his head bounced three times – miraculously producing three springs of water. You will see the three springs that still flow in the sanctuary of the monastery.
It's the oldest prison in Rome, where the Apostles St. Paul and St. Peter were imprisoned for 9 months and where, according to legend, they miraculously made water appear in order to baptize the guards.

Went here as part of a group of 60 from our local churches. This is a fantastic church that I had not been to before, Its architecture is just stunning. Make sure you allow enough time, I would say between 1 hour and 2 hours. We had mass in St Stephens chapel which made the visit. Recommended.
Fantastic tour. Very thorough. Lovely pace. Our guide was so knowledgeable. Terrific!
WOW. information overload. Simon was awesome. He knew everything about everything. It was amazing to walk in the footsteps of Paul and Peter and see the scriptures come alive. This is a must tour and see if you can request for Simon as he really brings the bible to life.
Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review! We’re thrilled to hear that Simon made your tour such an unforgettable experience, bringing history and scripture to life in such a meaningful way. It’s wonderful to know that walking in the footsteps of Paul and Peter left such a strong impression. We truly appreciate your recommendation and will be sure to share your kind words with Simon. Kind regards, The Eyes of Rome Team
10/10! We absolutely hit the jackpot with our guide, Simone. He was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the topics of this tour. My husband is a researcher and had a lot of questions about Paul and Peter, and Simone really helped paint a picture of the time period and helped clarify things that my husband had read previously. The private setting also allowed us ample one on one time with Simone and though the tour was costly, we walked away feeling it was absolutely worth every penny. This was one of the best tours of our Rome trip.
Beautiful church. The church is off the beaten path. We took a taxi there but it was easy to get a bus back. There is a nice shop and it is reasonable. There was a beautiful mass going on and the choir was very good
The guide was very knowledgeable and took time to answer her questions we didn't feel rushed at all excellent tour
In 2017, my wife and I booked a full day private walking tour of Rome. We were fortunate to get Rosalba as our guide. With advanced degrees in Art History and Sculpture we couldn't have asked for a better guide in Rome. The day was amazing...learned so much. So we asked if she'd guide us a second day and she did. In those two days we learned so much about Rome, its history, both secular and religious, its culture, architecture, history and arts. Over the years we've stayed in touch with her and recommended her to friends visiting Rome and so during this visit we booked a tour with her several months ago. During the two days prior to the tour, my wife and I walked around Rome and visited several sites including the Castel Sant'Angelo on our own. And once again, I realized "I take lots of pictures in Rome but have no idea what I'm seeing or its significance UNLESS we're with Rosalba." And, so it is. On this tour, Rosalba and driver Luca picked us up and we traveled to the Mamertine Prison, St. Paul's Basilica where he was buried and the Three Fountains sites where Rosalba's expert and deep knowledge taught us about Paul's life, his imprisonment and final days. In the 3.5-hour private tour, we learned more than I could have by reading several books. On our next trip to Rome, we'll once again request Rosalba, who we now count as one of our friends.
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with Rosalba! We're thrilled to hear that she has made such a lasting impression on you and your wife during your visits to Rome. Her deep knowledge and passion for art and history truly enrich the experience, making it not just a tour but a journey through time. It’s heartwarming to know that you've stayed in touch and continue to recommend her to friends. We’re delighted that your recent tour of the Mamertine Prison, St. Paul’s Basilica, and the Three Fountains was another enriching experience for you. We look forward to welcoming you back for more adventures with Rosalba, our friend and expert guide. Thank you for choosing us again, and we can’t wait to see you on your next trip! Warm regards, Francesca Eyes of Rome Team
I really don’t like leaving poor reviews but with the amount of money we paid for this tour and what we received I felt it was necessary. The guide was not very informative. Many things she stated were not biblical which was the most disappointing bc how can I take someone for their word when they don’t even know basic truths about Paul the apostle. We were very disappointed with this tour. Like I said for the amount of money we paid it wasn’t worth it.
Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience didn’t match your expectations. This is the first time we’ve received negative review about this tour and we will discuss your comments with the guide to understand what happened and ensure that situations like this don’t occur in the future. Kindly note that all our guides are highly trained professionals with deep knowledge of both history and culture, but we understand that sometimes certain elements may feel different for every guest. Please know we’re committed to offering top-notch experiences and would welcome the chance to provide an exceptional one for you in the future. Sincerely, Francesca Eyes of Rome Team
This tour was an essential holy experience, as we contemplated the life of St. Paul. Rosie, our tour guide, was thoughtful, kind, and knowledgeable, always willing to answer our questions. It was great having this highly personalized experience, moving from Paul’s suffering in prison, to his death, and burial place at the Basilica of St. Peter’s as a single tour rather than visiting those locations on our own which would have required taxis and would have been disjointed. This was a spiritually moving experience for us, which we highly recommend. We can’t state enough how wonderful Rosie was.
