A Great Oregon Wine Tour

Description

On this Private Wine Tour we work closely with you to curate the perfect custom itinerary. We really do know everyone in Wine Country and can get you private tastings with the winemakers themselves and line up wineries that specifically make wines that will suit your tastes and budget. If you're not careful you will learn a lot about the geology, the agricultural significance, our history and why we grow those finicky cool climate wine grapes out here. This Private Wine Tour will be fun, educational and if we do our job right it will be filled with moments that become lasting memories. PLEASE NOTE THAT TASTING FEES ARE NOT UNCLUDED IN THE PRICE

Fun in Willamette

This tour was great. Wayne and Camille were both so communicative during the booking process and we visited three amazing vineyards of a single day. Each of the stops a unique experience. They prepared a delicious lunch to enjoy and the second spot and Camille shared a lot of great tidbits about Willamette throughout the day. We didn’t feel rushed at any of our tastings.

Pick Wayne for your Willamette Day!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Amazing Day in the Willamette Valley with Wayne! We had an absolutely incredible day touring the Willamette Valley with Wayne! From the moment he picked up our group of 6 adults at our hotel in Portland, his energy and personality made the entire day so enjoyable. He was incredibly easy to talk to, and his knowledge of the history of the Willamette Valley and Oregon made the drive between wineries just as interesting as the wine tasting itself. Wayne had a clean, comfortable vehicle that was perfect for our group. He took the time to understand our wine preferences and priorities, especially our desire for beautiful, scenic views, and selected three wineries that were a perfect fit for us. He also made all of our winery reservations in advance, making the entire day completely seamless and stress-free. Wayne even provided a delicious picnic lunch that he packed for us and set up at one of the wineries, which was such a thoughtful touch. Everywhere we went, it was clear that Wayne has built wonderful relationships with the wineries—the staff knew him and treated us so well. His knowledge, connections, energy, and attention to detail made for an unforgettable experience. We would absolutely recommend Wayne to anyone visiting the Willamette Valley, and we’re already looking forward to taking another tour with him someday!

A truly Great tour

We had a wonderful day with Camille and met another couple. We learned a lot about the Willamette wine country and visited 3 terrific vineyards. Beautiful views at all. Picnic lunch was delicious. The owners/ operators of each vineyard were hospitable, knowledgable and fun to talk with. Loved this experience!

Operator response

Hey Kleinsa, Thanks for leaving me such a good review. Ya, everyone that day seemed to be having a very nice experience in our little wine region. I also enjoyed my time with all of you. I hope the rest of your summer is great. Sincerely, Camille

The wineries were perfect for us and Wayne really knew the locations and owners. Lunch was also excellent. If you’re going to Willamette we highly recommend!!

Excellent beginning, then a very steep drop off.

We started our tour at Patricia Green Cellars and our experience was so far above expectations. Our vineyard host was knowledgeable; he talked with us the whole time. We started with a rose, then 6 pinots. Once we rated these, he brought us 3 more to taste. We had food, became wine club members and bought wine. There was no charge. We had a very different experience at Solena. A young waiter told us what he poured and then left--no other information was given. They charged $200. We were so very disappointed, we did not want to go to the third winery

Operator response

Ya, the experience at Patricia Green cellars is always amazing. Had you not purchased wines or joined the club you would have paid tasting fees there. Tasting fees are not included with our tours. That's why you were charged tasting fees at the 2nd winery. there was no wine purchased. I understand you decided to end the tour early because of that and some of your guests weren't too happy with that decision. I don't know why you would think the 3rd winery would not be enjoyable. Your guide was Wayne, one of the best guides out there. He has no control over what happens in the tasting room but if you shared your disappointment with him and gave him the opportunity to make sure you did have a great experience at the 3rd winery he would have done just that. The negative review should have been posted at the winery sight not our site. That's like giving your UBER driver a bad review because he dropped you off at a restaurant and you weren't happy with the service there.

What a Great Oregon Wine Tour!!

Wayne picked us up at our accommodations and took us to 3 wineries over around 7 hours and provided a great lunch too. Wayne, himself, was a very interesting and entertaining guy. Our visits included meeting an owner of a small winery, and some very experienced and knowledgeable people everywhere. Very little repetition or overlap because each place explained their business and always listened and reacted accordingly with our questions and feedback. Highly, highly recommend A Great Oregon Wine Tour. A fantastic experience!!

Everything we wanted!

This was our first time visiting the Willamette Valley and my husband and I had no idea where to start. We wanted to make the most of our time and booked a private tour with A Great Oregon Wine Tour. Wayne, one of the owners, reached out to us immediately to thank us for booking, to ask what we would like from our tour, and if there were any specific wines/wineries that we had in mind to explore/visit. We told him that we enjoyed Pinot Noir and our goal was to learn more about it and find some really great bottles to send home and enjoy. We also said that we didn’t want to blow in and out of lots of wineries but preferred quality over quantity and wanted a relaxing day visiting places that would provide a more personalized experience. Camille, the co-owner of A Great Oregon Wine Tour and Wayne’s wife, was our guide for the day. She picked us up at our hotel in McMinnville in a nice minivan and shared information about the area on our way to the first stop, Patricia Green Cellars. The winery was expecting us and we were welcomed with a glass of wine to enjoy while we got settled and enjoyed the breathtaking views of the vineyard. Our tasting included a lovely cheese and snack tray that we enjoyed while tasting lots of different wines that were discussed in detail by our tasting consultant (who was amazing). We did not pay a tasting fee because we had a number of bottles shipped to our home, but I believe it would have been about $50 per person had we not made the wine purchase. The fee would have been well worth it based on the number of wines we tasted, the personalized attention we received, and the lovely snacks that were provided. Prior to our second stop we had a little extra time so Camille took us to Durant Oregon Olive Mill to taste a few olive oils. They offer mill tours which we may do on a future trip to the Willamette Valley. It was a nice stop after which we headed to try wines from Moffett Vineyards. I’ll start by saying that meeting Trent Moffett was probably our favorite part of the day. We sat with the actual vintner and winemaker and tasted a selection of his wines while learning so much and hearing his amazing stories. This stop was not what one might expect–it was a mini trailer that was situated on a gravel parking lot and didn’t have much of a view at all. It did not have running water and used a generator or battery to power the lights and the restroom was a port-a-potty. I may have raised my eyebrow when we were pulling up, but I really must say that our time with Trent was unmatched. He is so knowledgeable and kind and humble–and his wines are absolutely wonderful! The tasting fee here would have been $20 per person. Again, it would have been well worth it based on the many wines we experienced and the time we spent with Trent learning about them but the fee was waived because we did order bottles of the wines we enjoyed most. After our Moffett Vineyards wine tastings with Trent, Camille brought out lunch to eat while we were there. The lunch itself consisted of hearty turkey sandwiches, chips, fresh fruit, roasted hazelnuts, and cookies. It was very nice and Trent poured us glasses of wine to accompany our meal. I will say that I thought our picnic lunch would be at a more scenic location where my husband and I could visit and enjoy lunch while looking at Oregon’s beautiful countryside or vineyards. I also would have preferred a real bathroom with running water to wash my hands and not a port-a-potty. However, I did not communicate that to Camille and I know from our lovely treatment the entire day that if I had asked, she would have gladly taken us to a more scenic location for our picnic lunch. I know that many/most wineries do not allow outside food, so eating at a winery may not be an option but I’m sure there are a number of scenic overlooks in the valley that would be nice for a picnic. If you are stopping for a Moffett Vineyards tasting (and I really hope you do because you will not be disappointed with the wine or with meeting Trent), you may want to ask to eat lunch at a different location based on your preferences and expectations. Our third and final stop was Alexana Winery. The building and vineyards were absolutely beautiful and we were greeted with a glass of wine to enjoy as we looked around and made our way to a reserved table that was set up for us. Our tasting consultant was Sophia. She was incredibly knowledgeable, so personable, and it felt like we were sitting with a friend rather than an employee of the vineyard for the tasting. She walked us through our tasting and based on our likes brought in additional wines for us to taste. The tasting here would have been $50 per person but was waived based on our wine purchases. Like our other two experiences, we felt the tasting fee would have been well worth the cost had we not purchased multiple bottles of wine that afternoon. After our final stop, Camille brought us back to our hotel and dropped us off. The day was seamless and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Although all of our tasting fees were waived, we felt they would have been a reasonable amount for each experience if we had not purchased wine and we did give a cash gratuity directly to the tasting consultants for their amazing service. We felt that Camille and Wayne at A Great Oregon Wine Tour had provided exactly what we asked for on every account. When we visit the Willamette Valley area again, we will not hesitate to contact A Great Oregon Wine Tour for another amazing tour!

Ten Year Anniversary Trip

Trust me when I say Wayne and team are the Michael Jordans of wine tours in the valley. Having Wayne as our guide made our trip an unforgettable experience. Wayne was a wonderful host and managed to add two phenomenal wineries to our list at the last moment. It was our ten year anniversary and he made it very memorable for us. We will most certainly be back and be contacting A Great Oregon Wine Tour for another private tour! Thank you!!!!

Wine tasting in Oregon Willamette Valley

Wayne arranged for six winery visits/tastings over two different days. One included a food pairing at Soter Vineyards which was excellent. We also visited Knudsen, Bledsoe|McDaniel, Ayoub, Evesham Wood/Haden Fig, and Bethel Heights. The vehicles were fine, and Wayne (owner) was knowledgeable and entertaining. Would use again!
