Itinerary
Through the eyes of "A Young Archaeologist," you will discover Mesoamerica and its cultures and regions. My objective is to show you that pre-Hispanic history in this country goes beyond just the Maya and Aztecs. I will take you to the main exhibition halls to explore the masterpieces of each culture. We will discuss their history, religion, politics, economy, architecture, and traditions. Together, we will understand their possible meanings. By the end, you will have knowledge of the great variety of cultures in the past and their processes over time. Additionally, you will see why this museum is the favorite space of this archaeologist. Passion, fun, and professionalism are guaranteed.

David is the best guide I’ve had in decades of travel. Please keep in mind that he trained at Mexico’s preeminent archaeology school, has been involved in a number of digs and has years and years of experience. More importantly, he tailors the experience for the audience, which is the hallmark of the best kind of private tour. I spent two days with him at the National Anthropology Museum and also at the pyramids at Teotihuacan and peppered him with questions. He always answered thoughtfully and in detail, often whipping out his iPad with its thousands of pictures and diagrams and using his Apple pencil to illustrate his point. This is not a canned tour. Rather, it is like opening a shiny new double door refrigerator and finding it filled with fascinating stories and artefacts of the Mesoamerican civilizations. Make sure to have lunch at La Gruta after the pyramids. It is a restaurant in a cave.
Amazing experience!! We learned so much and had a great time. Book now!!
Pakalito was exceedingly informative & passionate about the history & artifacts presented at the museum. We were able to engage at a much deeper level at this incredible venue. A great experience:) Highly recommend!
David was amazing. So knowledgeable and passionate about the museum, history and artefacts. He guided us through the museum and through and behind exhibits we would have completely missed if on our own. It was fantastic
Pakalito (aka David) gave our family of 4 the most incredible tour of the Anthropology Museum. He was able to weave the archeology with the history of these ancient civilizations into the incredible artifacts and reconstructions that you see at the museum. At the same time that we toured the museum he used his ipad to show us archeological pictures, graphics and represenations to add further depth to the exhibits. Pakalito's passion for anthropology shown through and made this tour a highlight of our trip to CDMX. I would highly recommend this to any person or family.
What a wonderful time exploring the Museum of anthropology with Pakal! Pakal was the perfect guide, smart, friendly extremely knowledge and enjoyed sharing his wealth of information. He answered all of our questions. Without Pakal’s guidance we would not have understood what we were experiencing in the museum. Plus, Pakal’s tour at the museum helped make our trip to the Teotihuacan Pyramids a great experience, as we were fully equipped with knowledge and understanding. Thank you, Pakal! I highly recommend taking this tour!
David “Pakalito” is the BEST! We had an incredible time learning about Meso American culture and history. We were supposed to be a family of 4, but my youngest got sick and so stayed behind with my wife. So it was a truly special experience for my oldest son and me. We were tour #470 for Pakalito, but he clearly LOVES what he does because it all felt fresh, interesting and it so clear that he wants to share his passion for archaeology with his guests. I can’t recommend David highly enough. He’s a gem. The museum itself is incredible and HUGE and it is so helpful to have someone like Pakalito to guide you through the experience. And due to my son being ill and a mixup on my end about meeting time, we were about 30 mins late. But Pakalito was kind, understanding, and it didn’t affect the experience in any way. Thank you, Pakalito! Book this tour! You won’t regret it!
Here’s the updated version: If you’re visiting the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, do yourself a favor and book David (who goes by Pakalito, a nickname inspired by the Mayan ruler Pakal). He completely transformed what could have been a standard walk-through into one of the highlights of our trip. David studied archaeology and has been passionate about it since he was 12, when he first became fascinated with Pakal himself. That lifelong love of the subject shows in every single explanation. His English is excellent, his knowledge runs deep, and he has a real gift for storytelling. He guided my husband and me through the best parts of the museum and brought the Pre-Classic, Classic, and Post-Classic eras to life in a way that was genuinely captivating from start to finish. The tour was three hours long and honestly flew by, we could have easily stayed longer. What sets him apart is that he doesn’t just recite facts. He connects the history to the people, the rulers, the rituals, and the everyday lives behind the artifacts, so you walk away actually understanding what you saw rather than just having looked at it. Even as a couple with different levels of background knowledge, we were both completely hooked the entire time. The museum itself is massive and can feel overwhelming without a guide. With Pakalito, every room had context and meaning. Honestly one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had, anywhere. If you’re coming to Mexico City, book him. You won’t regret it.
Start to finish great tour! David (Pakalito!) was passionate, very knowledgeable, and articulate. Showed us around the key highlights. We learned a ton and highly recommend the guided experience with David
WOW! Pakalito (a.k.a. David) is not only an incredible tour guide, but also just a genuinely wonderful human being. From the moment we met him, he made us feel comfortable, welcomed, and completely taken care of. His English is excellent, which was a lifesaver for us since our Spanish skills are basically limited to “gracias” and ordering tacos. :) He was punctual, organized, and handled all of our museum tickets ahead of time, which made everything stress-free. And trust me — this museum is HUGE. Without someone as knowledgeable and passionate as Pakalito guiding us through it, we definitely would have missed so much of the magic and hidden details. Google Translate will only take you so far…you need a guide, OK? Trust me. The tour lasted a solid 3 hours, but it honestly flew by because he made every moment engaging and interesting. Nothing felt rushed, and he was incredibly patient with all of our questions (and we had a lot!). His enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge of Mesoamerica really brought the museum and history to life. We learned so much beyond the Aztecs and Mayans. One practical tip: wear comfortable shoes and a water bottle! There’s quite a bit of walking and standing based on the size of the exhibits. I wore sneakers and packed cute sandals in my bag for dinner afterward, which worked perfectly. But honestly, I recommend you dedicate a half-day to this tour and then just exploring the park. Polanco is also just a 10-15 min ride away for shopping and restaurants galore. Pakalito truly made the entire experience unforgettable. Kind, patient, funny, intelligent and thoughtful — basically everything you could hope for in a guide. We left feeling like we learned so much and also made a new friend. Highly, highly recommend!
