Itinerary
Peatonal Sarandi
20 min
Our tour starts in Sarandi pedestrian street. In this first instance, we will begin sharing fun facts about Uruguay, and start getting to know 'Ciudad Vieja/ Old city' neighborhood, which used to originally be an enclosed citadel constructed by the Spanish people to resist military attacks from the Portuguese. We also highlight points of interest such as 'Museo del Carnaval' and 'Mercado del Puerto'.
Plaza Zabala
Admission included15 min
Built in honor of the founder of the city, Zabala's square is a beautiful green area located in front of the 'Taranco Palace' (museum of decorative arts) where we will learn more about the origins of Montevideo and the colonial footprint that still shows itself nowadays.
Plaza Matriz
Admission included30 min
This square used to be the center of everyday life in the 1800s. With its recognizable Spanish style, we will visit the cathedral of San Felipe y Santiago, the Cabildo museum (which used to be the administrative and justice headquarters back in the day), and enjoy the handcrafts fair that draws the attention of many tourists with its antiques and traditional Uruguayan items.
Plaza Independencia
30 min
Plaza Independencia is the most important square of Uruguay's capital. It marks the limit between the historic neighborhood and the downtown area of the city. With many relevant buildings to highlight and visit, this square bears the remains of our biggest patriotic figure - José Gervasio Artigas - in its underground mausoleum, as well as showcases the emblematic 'Gate of the Citadel' monument, which makes it the perfect spot for postcard looking pictures and photographs.
Teatro Solis
10 min
While learning about Independance Square, we will also get dazzled by Solis' theater architecture, which is the oldest theather in latin america.
Palacio Legislativo
30 min
With its impeccable neoclassical architecture, this 100 year old building is where the chamber of senators and deputies pass and create new laws in the country. Nearby we can also make a stop at the Agricultural's Market, where we can buy some typical uruguayan snacks such as empanadas, alfajores or dulce de leche.
Obelisco a los Constituyentes
Pass by
This 131 feet/ 40 meters high monument, really similar to the one in Buenos Aires, the Obelisc marks the beginning of the main avenue of Montevideo - 18 de julio.
Parque Batlle
20 min
At this point of our route, we will be able to appreciate the biggest green area of the city. Batlle Park was named after one of our most renowned presidents, and here we will see the velodrome (where carnival celebrations take place), as well as the 'Carreta/ Wagon' sculpture, symbol of Uruguay's agricultural lifestyle.
Estadio Centenario
Admission not included15 min
Declared by FIFA as the only monument of world football, this stadium hosted the first ever World Cup in 1930 where Uruguay became victorious and kept the cup home.
Montevideo Sign
15 min
This is the 'must visit' part of our itinerary. The Montevideo sign has an unforgettable view of the coast, and here we will help you capture your stay with us by taking the best pictures to take home.
Rambla Presidente Wilson
Pass by
At this point of our tour, we will enjoy the shore breeze of De La Plata river, and drive by the longest promenade in the world. With 24km/15 miles of continuous coastline while headed east for our next stop, we will be able to see people sharing a traditional uruguayan 'Mate' (typical hot beverage), people jogging and families spending time together at the beach.
Carrasco
60 min
It is now time to try a traditional meal, with many restaurant options to choose from in the Arocena street, we suggest trying the famous 'Chivito', or the uruguayan asado; and the best place to do so is the Carrasco neighborhood, where we will pass by the most luxurious residences in the eastern side of Montevideo.
Mirador Panoramico de Montevideo
20 min
The cherry of the pie will be finishing this tour while getting the full picture of Montevideo from above. We will visit the city hall's view point, where you we will be able to recognize the spots we previously visited with informative brochures and binoculars.

A super guide and great day.
Santi was a fantastic guide- very informative and took us all around so we really got a good sample of Montevideo. He stopped when I wanted to take pictures and spent a lot of time with us. One of the best guides ever! So lucky it was a weekend because he only works then.

A very informative, enjoyable and efficient way to immerse in Montevideo and Uruguayan culture.
This tour was a great combination of walking and driving which allowed us to see as much as possible in 5 and a half hours. Paola was very informative and enthusiastic about her city and country. Her English was perfect. We even made a stop to sample mate, the local tea. There is truly no replacement for a personal guided tour from a local.

A great, personalized way to see and learn about Montevideo!
Before arriving in the city of Montevideo, we arranged a private tour for the four of us of the city. We couldn’t have been more delighted.Paola our guide and our driver Rodrigo were both delightful. The van was new and comfortable with plenty room for our walker. Paola was fun, kind, and deeply knowledgeable about Montevideo and Uruguay in general. We were taken to all the highlights of the city. We even got to see a mass in the cathedral led by the cardinal of Montevideo himself. Paola asked us the specific things that we were interested in seeing and arranged it all accordingly and beautifully. She took us out to a wonderful lunch at a restaurant dating back to the 1880s, a panoramic view of the city from atop city hall, and so many other wonderful sites. Being from Punta del Este , she also gave us recommendations for sites and dining there. That was our next stop. I cannot recommend this tour and the staff highly enough. If you want something that is personalized, personable, and just plain fun. This is the tour for you.

Montevideo City Tour with Paola
Our group of four enjoyed a wonderful 3+ hours city tour of Montevideo with the absolutely amazing Paola! Our visit to this fantastic city was made even more special due to Paola, who not only has an extraordinary command of the English language, but is hugely knowledgeable, entertaining and able to answer questions on any subject. She made our visit very special and we would recommend her wholeheartedly!

A perfect day in Montevideo
We started our tour leaving Celebrity Equinox at the port and We always try to tour in small groups. We had 6 of us this day. We found Paola waiting for us just outside the port gates. Paola is a warm, smart multi-lingual guide. She has one goal, to make our day great. She prepared a comprehensive tour of the city with a combination of walking and driving in an air conditioned van piloted by Pablo who was terrific. We spent several hours touring and later we were able to see where we’d gone from the rooftop tower of city hall. We finished the day with a walk through the port market where we had a very nice lunch and then walked across the street to the port gates. Please ask for Paola for your guide with Urban Tours. We thoroughly enjoyed our day.

“Favio Made Montevideo Come Alive”
We had an excellent private tour with Favio. He was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely passionate about Montevideo. Nothing was too much trouble — he was flexible, obliging, and made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. We learned so much about the city’s history and culture, and his insights added real depth to every stop. A fantastic guide and a brilliant tour.
