Itinerary

20 min

Your private tour begins with a convenient pickup from your accommodation in Cape Town and surrounding areas, typically around 9:00am, with flexibility to suit your schedule. From there, we ease into the day with a brief city orientation drive through Cape Town’s historic centre, passing key landmarks and notable buildings, offering a sense of the city before the journey unfolds along the peninsula. This is where the experience begins to shift, from city streets to coastal beauty, as we make our way toward the Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach Penguin Colony.

30 min

Your first stop is the vibrant Bo-Kaap (Cape Malay Quarter), one of Cape Town’s most iconic and culturally rich neighbourhoods. Stroll through the colourful streets and capture photos of the famous houses that have become a symbol of Cape Town’s heritage. Beyond the visuals, this area carries deep historical and cultural significance. Your guide will share local insight into the Cape Malay community, the meaning behind the brightly painted homes, and the history that shaped this unique part of the city. If you’re lucky, you may even have a chance to greet some of the locals and experience the area’s warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Admission included20 min

Departing from Hout Bay, the journey begins to shift as you drive onto one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world, Chapman’s Peak Drive (weather permitting). Carved into the mountainside, this stretch of road winds above the ocean, with dramatic cliffs on one side and endless blue on the other. It’s one of those moments where you slow down without needing to be told. We’ll stop at one of the scenic viewpoints overlooking Hout Bay, where the mountains wrap around the bay, and the views open up in every direction. And just when you think it couldn’t get better, a small surprise awaits. Take a moment, glass of bubbly in hand, and simply take it all in, the stillness, the scale, the kind of view that stays with you long after. Make sure your camera is ready, but also take a second to just be there.

30 min

We continue along the coastline toward Noordhoek, where the road opens up to reveal sweeping views over the valley and the long, untouched stretch of beach below. There’s an optional stop here, not because you have to, but because it feels right. Over here, you step into a relaxed village setting where you can enjoy one of Cape Town’s finest locally roasted coffees, browse small independent shops filled with handcrafted pieces, locally made goods, and unique souvenirs, and even explore fresh farm produce and artisanal treats. One of the quiet highlights here is seeing the horses moving gently through the village, a simple, grounded moment that feels far removed from the usual tourist experience. And just beyond, if you look out toward the coastline, you may also catch a glimpse of horses along the wide, open beach below, adding to the sense of space and calm that defines this part of the journey. It’s a gentle pause in the day, unhurried, personal, and unexpectedly memorable.

Admission included60 min

You’ll arrive at the Cape Point / Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, one of the most iconic points along the Cape Peninsula. As we continue through the reserve, you’ll also pass the historic monuments of Dias and Vasco da Gama, visible along the route and adding depth to the story of this coastline. From here, we make our way up to Cape Point, where the highlight awaits. Take a moment to capture that well-known photo at the Cape of Good Hope sign, a special highlight! Standing at the lighthouse, you’re met with sweeping panoramic views across the Cape Peninsula, with both the Atlantic Ocean and False Bay visible on a clear day. It’s one of those viewpoints that truly puts everything into perspective. Along the drive through the reserve, keep an eye out for wildlife that roam freely in this natural environment, including baboons, zebra, eland, various antelope species, ostriches, and a variety of birdlife, and more It’s a landscape that feels wild, open, and completely unfiltered.

Admission not included90 min

From the Cape of Good Hope you will drive to Cape Point. Arriving at Cape Point you will have a choice between a 15-minute hike or take the Flying Dutchman Funicular to the Cape Point Lighthouse (if in operation). Here we will also explore the most south-western point of Africa, known as the Cape Point, where the cold Benguela from the Atlantic Ocean, meets the warm Agulhas current of the Indian Ocean.

Admission included60 min

Your next stop brings you to Boulders Beach, home to Cape Town’s most famous residents, the African penguins. From the viewing decks, you’ll watch them at close range as they move between the rocks, swim through the clear waters, and go about their day completely undisturbed. There’s something quietly special about this moment, simple, real, and unexpectedly moving. As you continue along the boardwalk, you may even find one or two of these curious little characters waddling nearby, a reminder of how close you are to nature here. For those wanting a more personal experience, a short walk takes you to a sheltered beach where, depending on the day, you may have the opportunity to swim in the same waters as the penguins. It’s not just a highlight of the tour, for many, it becomes a highlight of their entire visit to Cape Town.

Pass by

After a memorable day you will be dropped off at your accommodation (around 18h00) where you will have plenty of time to reminisce on your unforgettable experience.

15 min

Photo opportunity at the colourful huts on this lovely beach in this beautiful little town.

60 min

We’ll pause for lunch in Simon’s Town, where the pace naturally slows and the ocean is never far from view. Settle into one of the seaside restaurants, where fresh, locally prepared dishes are served against a backdrop of the harbour and open water. It’s the kind of setting where you don’t feel rushed, where the conversation flows, the views hold your attention, and the moment feels easy. Sea air, the gentle sound of the ocean, and plates of beautifully prepared food, simple things, done well. It’s more than just a lunch stop, it’s a moment to sit back, take it all in, and savour the day as it unfolds.

A great organised tour and guide with Hylton Ross tours .

Today, Wednesday 13th May 2026, we were on a tour with Hylton Ross tours of, Cape Point, Boulders Beach Penquins, Hout Bay village, Chapman Peak, Good Hope nature reserve, Simons Town and Cape Peninsula. It was a fantastic day long tour with a great driver who had a great knowledge of the tour area, I'm sorry but I can't remember his name, but he was absolutely fantastic. The scenery, boat trip in Hout Bay, wonderful landscapes and scenic drive were stunning. We were able to watch penguins at Boulders Beach, wild Ostriches in Good Hope and seals also at several locations. A great tour by Hylton Ross tours. Thanks once again.

Leonard is awesome! If you want to see or do anything Leonard is your person!!!

Leonard is fantastic! He is really a 6 not a 5. The most gracious and flexible guide I have ever had. I spent 7 days with him, and could spend more. We saw everything from wines, to Cape Town, to Cape Agulhas. We saw baboons, Penguins, Dassies. He did not care about the time but about our experience. I have used numerous tour guides including A&K, and Leonard beats them all. I cannot recommend African SunTours and Leonard enough!

Lovely day out

Had this tour as the last day of a longer 3-day itinerary. Leonard did a great job tailoring the tour around what I liked, slowing down where I wanted to stay longer or skipping places I wasn't interested in. He really cares about leaving you happy and doesn't mind adjusting the itinerary on the fly. Everything was super good, from the timeliness, to the vehicle, the pleasant chats. Really no complaints! Super recommended!

Spectacular and amazing!!!

I went on a tour Leonard Botha from Afriican Sun Tours. The Cape Peninsula and Penguin Beach were and amazing wonder of the world. Not to mention the amazing wonder of the tour guide Leaonard I had. We went to Ostrich farm (close to Cape of Good Hope) which was great. Penguin Beach is a once in a lifetime spectacular place that you cannot miss. Then we went for a great dinner close by. You cannot do this amazing once in a life time tour independently and must hire Leaonard Otha from African Sun Tors.

Amazing scenery and experience

Leonard arranged a helicopter tour of the Peninsula and then took me on the drive of the area I had seen from the air. It was awesome to experience both from the land and air. Leonard is a superb host and a very nice man, I was travelling solo and Leonard made me feel comfortable from the start. It was like driving around with a friend who has intimate knowledge of all the best places to go and really interesting details about the history of Capetown. I would rate Leonard 11 out of 10 and cannot recommend him highly enough!
