Private Surf Lessons in Honolulu

This lesson was for my granddaughter who is 9. Niko gave her wonderful instruction and was so awesome!! I would definitely recommend Hans Hedemann Surf School and Niko as an instructor.

Peter was an awesome instructor and made the entire experience incredibly enjoyable. His expertise was the perfect balance of not overwhelming you with too much information, while still giving exactly the right tips and guidance to improve quickly. He helped me understand how to properly stand, balance, and position myself on the board, and thanks to his coaching I was able to catch a few successful waves. The lesson felt encouraging, relaxed, and fun the entire time. You can't beat the beautiful location too! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn or improve their surfing while actually enjoying the experience! :)

Peter was the perfect instructor for our 9 year old grandson. He was patient and kind. Our grandson was able to stand up, caught several good waves and wants to surf again!

Staff and instructors were really friendly. Your safety is their utmost priority. We enjoyed trying our first surfing experience. Kudos to Zarra and her staff for taking care of our group.

Good explaining, nice people, great experience for beginning surfers. The movie in the beginning is a fine way to learn fast!

Some people don't know it, but Hiedemann, who famously recruited Hans, teaches you how to surf. I've been surfing for 45 years, and I joined to get her to teach me. They don't use Japanese but they teach easy to understand and attentive, so even if it's your first time standing on a surfboard you'll be impressed Recommended.

Super easy check-in at the office. You watch a quick water safety video, and they go over all the lesson options—group, private, or tandem. The instructors help you figure out what’s best for you. It’s only a quick 2-minute walk to the surf spot, and they already have the boards waiting. Another short paddle out and you’re good to go. All the instructors are awesome. We love Kalei and Niko, and Charlie is my favorite!

My 13yo son and 9yo daughter got private surf lessons from Luis and Charley. They had an absolutely fantastic time. It was their first time surfing and they are hooked, especially my daughter. She wanted to go back again the next day. Do not miss the photos. While we thought we could just take some videos from the pier, which we did, those drone photos and videos are something else. Totally worth it!

I booked a private lesson on an impulse at short notice. I went directly to the shop (round the corner from my accommodation) to book. Since I was travelling alone, was a beginner surfer and am older, meeting the staff gave me a better feel for the company than just checking out the website. They were super friendly and approachable and dealt with my questions and booking quickly and efficiently. The shop has long-sleeved tops and 'river' shoes for customers to borrow for lessons. After a short intro video, they then took me down to the waterfront (ca. 5 min walk) to meet my instructor, Gavin. The lesson was so much fun with clear instructions, tips and support, as required, with manoeuvring the surf board as it can get tiring paddling out to the waves repeatedly. Gavin was very friendly and positive so that I felt at ease, gaining confidence to follow through with his clear instructions. He found the right balance between leaving the learner to do everything for themselves and giving a hand so that the learner doesn't end up exhausted early on in the lesson. All in all, a fabulous experience!
