Private Sunrise Guided hike on Pico do Areeiro or other custom

Nico was great to work with prior to the trip to coordinate everything and make recommendations. David was our guide for the hike and was absolutely incredible. He made us feel comfortable and told us a lot about the island. We had the best time and would absolutely recommend booking with them! If I am ever back in Madeira I would book another hike with them!

We just returned from our amazing trip to Madeira! We wanted to experience the sunrise at Pico Areeiro, but didn't want the hassle of driving up in the dark so we booked with Up Mountain Madeira. We could not have been happier with our choice! We booked directly with Up Mountain and communication was great even with an 8 hour difference between us. Pickup was early at 5:50AM and right on time outside our accommodation. We were able to sit back and relax for the drive. We even got to go past the lower parking lot since we booked with a guide/tour which saved at least 1/2 mile additional walk up the very steep road. Our guide was also able to share with us the exact spot to get to so we were away from the crowds. (Book with them to find out. LOL!) Yes, even at 6:45-7:00 there will be hundreds of people wanting to take in the sunrise. After the sunrise and walk at Pico Areeiro, we went to the second suggested hike at PR11 Levada dos balcoes which was tremendous. We were also able to sit and enjoy a coffee and pastry after our hikes were completed. Thank you so much for the AMAZING experience! We can't recommend Up Mountain Madeira enough! We really enjoyed the tour David gave us. He is a really knowledgeable and funny guy. He picked us up at our hotel, drove us there in time for the sunrise. And he knew how to avid the crowds. That was helpful. Due to the partial closure of the trail we had extra time and he gave us a tour of the NE side of the island. More amazing site. It was a long day but David made it go by quickly. I highly recommend this tour

These guys are so much better than the big companies. The experience is much more personal and you leave with the feeling that you have a new friend. The hike was amazing and the conversation was even better.

UpMountain is no doubt a small operator but I am very impressed by its professional and personalised services. Our flight to Madeira was cancelled at the very last minute due to unfavourable wind condition, Nico kept in touch with us and find the next best deal on flight and made alternative travel plan for us at no additional cost. We really appreciate his help to enable us to finally have a wonderful time in Madeira. OBRIGADA.

We went on a private sunrise hike to Porta de Sao Lourenco. The organisation of the trip by Nico was excellent; he was very responsive and helpful and even collected us from where we were staying (due to the early start). He handed us over to the guide, David, in Funchal. David took us to Sao Lourenco and led the hike. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the flora and fauna in Sao Lourenco and the island more generally. His English was excellent - far better than our Portuguese! He set a pace taking account of our abilities and we stopped for views and photos along the way. The changing landscape and light were amazing - we were lucky with the weather! We had a break at the ‘oasis’ - listening to hoopoes and watching green finches and my daughter even went for a dip in the cold - but very clear - sea. We headed back and bumped into some people who had been with David on a hike earlier in the week which they had also enjoyed. David drove us back to where we were staying and provided interesting commentary on the island as we went - we even stopped for some freshly made poncha! All in all it was a great expedition and we recommend UpMountain wholeheartedly.

Unfortunately due to the fires, I was unable to do Pico do Areeiro, however, Nico was very communicative throughout the process and suggested another hike which was beautiful. Do not book with any other companies. I unfortunately had two other companies cancel for other hikes, both within days of when I was scheduled. Nico was able to get me in for another custom hike which was equally as beautiful. His guides know all of the secrets to the hikes I would have never know, as in different routes, not as busy of hikes, etc. Highly recommended them!

Nico made our whole day such an amazing experience, having been planning to propose at sunrise for months, he talked me through his suggestions and tips. Could not recommend Nico, and the company more, if you are looking to do a hike or tour, look no further!

We did the PR1 (the peak to peak) sunrise hike today as a private tour and it was amazing. Nico and David picked us up at our hotel. They were prompt and amazing from the start. My knee ended up acting up soon after we started the hike, making us move quite slowly. David, who stayed with us while Nico went ahead to the pickup point, was so very patient with us and I never felt rushed. He also took some great pictures for us. We would recommend this tour to anyone doing PR1. They will get you there before sunrise, before tons of other people arrive, and will help you have a safe hike.

A breathtaking experience from start to finish. Surrounded by heavenly nature during the whole hike. Every step was worth it. David is an incredible guide and person, encouraging the entire time. Nico is also a great driver. Had the time of my life. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
